IL: FOID Card Requirement found to be Unconstitutional for Third Time
An Illinois Circuit Court in White County has found portions of the Illinois Firearms Owner ID law to be unconstitutional under the Second Amendment, for the third time. From wmay.com February 10, 2025:
A White County Illinois judge has found the state’s Firearms Owner’s ID card unconstitutional when enforced against someone possessing their firearms in their home.
The case Illinois vs. Vivian Brown stems from a 2017 case where police found a rifle in her home and charged her with possessing a firearm without a FOID card.
This is the third time an Illinois White County Circuit Court has found the requirement to have an FOID card, merely to possess a firearm in their home, to be unconstitutional. The same judge, T. Scott Webb, has heard the case all three times. From the 2025 decision at saf.org:
Conversely, since the inception of this case, both parties have agreed that the Defendant was and is eligible to receive a FOID Card and, as such, is a law abiding, responsible citizen. Only now does the State seek to re-define the Defendant as a criminal and strip her of her Second Amendment rights. Despite the State's novel "law-abiding" argument, this Court has determined that the Defendant is a responsible, law-abiding citizen deserving of the protections guaranteed under the Second Amendment. Accordingly, the Defendant's possession of a .22 caliber rifle withing the confines of her home, even without a valid FOID card falls squarely within the protections afforded her by the Second Amendment.
The Illinois Supreme Court has been unwilling to make a decision in the case.

The Unfinished War on Crypto
The past two weeks have been nothing short of surreal. If you’ve been following my journey over the last two and a half years, you know I’ve devoted my entire life to warning about the impending threat of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and the government’s growing crackdown on cryptocurrency. So, when President Trump took three steps that seemed like a direct answer to everything I’ve been fighting for—pardoning Ross Ulbricht, banning any pursuit of a US CBDC, and rescinding Biden’s Executive Order (EO)14067—you’d think I’d be on top of the world.
Oddly enough, I wasn’t. Instead of joy, I felt numb.
I’ve been grappling with why I reacted that way. At first, I chalked it up to having fought (and lost) so many battles with the government that I might be in shock or dealing with a sort of PTSD. I’ve known dark times—divorce, years of lawfare—and I’ve learned that recovery often involves facing hard truths, forgiving the people who hurt you, and then, hardest of all, forgiving yourself. Eventually, you replace anger or sadness with acceptance, and the pain recedes, leaving you wiser.
However, this isn’t so simple or straightforward because while Trump’s move to rescind EO 14067 was a huge step, the brutal “lawfare” unleashed by that order continues. Dozens of companies and individuals in the crypto community are bleeding out over legal fees and business losses, and some even face life-altering prison sentences. It’s hard to celebrate when so many are still trapped under the very machinery we were all fighting.

Trump plans rollback of regulations on ‘ghost guns,’ background checks
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday, Feb. 7, directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to review and potentially roll back Biden-era gun control policies, including ghost gun regulations and expanded background checks. The order aims to assess whether these measures infringe on Second Amendment rights and recommend actions within 30 days.
The review targets several key policies, including stricter oversight of gun dealers, the closure of the gun show loophole and the Justice Department’s legal defense of Biden’s firearm restrictions.
Gun rights advocates praised the move, while gun control groups warned that reversing these policies could undermine public safety and undo progress in reducing gun violence.

“Foreign Aid” Enriches the Rich While Impoverishing the Impoverished
If there is anything we have learned from the American welfare state it is that from the very beginning it created a moral hazard problem whereby paying people for not working incentivizes them to drop out of the workforce and remain impoverished. It’s called “the welfare trap.” Much of so-called “foreign aid” is no different; it is just the internationalization of the welfare trap.
Many clear examples of this are provided by David Osterfeld’s book Prosperity versus Planning: How Government Stifles Economic Growth. For example, after the U.S. government “acquired” Micronesia at the end of World War II “the people of Micronesia were given free food, clothes, and other supplies. The result was bankruptcy of many local stores and the undermining of the incentive to work” as “Micronesians preferred to accept free and usually gratuitous welfare, thus avoiding the work and sacrifice required for real economic progress.” There are hundreds of other examples just like this one.
Since foreign aid goes to foreign governments the governments often pocket the money themselves or sell the in-kind aid on international markets and enrich themselves that way. During the 1970s famine in Ethiopia the government there sold the donated food while thousands starved, but spent $200 million to celebrate the nation’s Marxist revolution. They even charged cargo ships delivering “food aid” a $50/ton docking fee and turned back any ship that refused to pay it.
