NEW EPISODE — The Bog — Folkism w/ Kyle Davis
https://hearthfireradio.com/watch?v=NPkbcHFL
Folkism—or folkishness—is starting to eclipse universalism as a paradigm for paganism. This just means that paganism is becoming more historically accurate because there never was a historical universalist paganism. But what exactly does folkism mean? What does it demand of us? The Boglords ask Kyle Davis of the Norroena Society, and get some enlightening answers.

Given our responses during our latest poll, I will start to post different ways you can perform the rites and rituals. Keep in mind that what we will be going over is considered theological reconstruction - a process that aims to restore religious practices to their founding principles. This involves systematically developing religious beliefs and theories backed by source material to form a practical basis for the reconstruction of the rites.
For blóts we have reconstructed the 9 parts that make it a sacred rite. These are derived from the Hávamál. First I will give the blót structure. Most of which stays the same regardless of what blót you perform. The part that changes is the biðja - the prayer.
Helga: Hallowing the grounds with the sacred need fire.
Biðja: A Prayer to the gods. Here you ask for help/protections from the chaos of the Jötuns.
Signa: perform the hammer sign over the offerings, the altar, and the people.
Blóta: Offering the sacrifices to the gods.
Senda: Sending the sacrifices by burning, hanging, drowning, or libation onto the ground.
Sóa: Cleansing which is a form of atonement, done by sprinkling blood/mead/water.
Spá: Divination by the casting of runes.
Sumbl: Toasting to the gods and kinsmen and oath making.
Loka: Ending the rite.
In later posts we will focus on each specific part to offer guidance on how it can be done.

The observance of Easter, or Ostara, on the spring equinox is a 1900’s Wiccan creation & has no basis in historical Germanic tradition. We know that the only ancient reference to Éostre comes from Bede, who noted that the Anglo-Saxon month Éostremónaþ, corresponding to April, was named after her & was marked by feasting. Similarly, in Old High German, April was called Ōstarmānod, preserving the same root aust-, meaning east or dawn. These month names were tied to the moon indicating that any historical celebration would have occurred on the April full moon after the spring equinox & not the equinox itself. The association of Ostara with the equinox comes from modern Wicca’s invention of the Wheel of the Year where festivals were spaced around solar events for symbolic balance, not historical accuracy. Created by Gerald Gardner in the 1940s, Wicca draws more from romanticism, Theosophy, & occult mysticism than from the actual Germanic religion & is therefore not folkish, but universalist.

Qualities of Leadership
In our modern day, the role of a leader is often misunderstood by those who lack true leadership qualities. Leaders are meant to inspire others through example. They carry themselves with dignity, professionalism, and respect, while conducting themselves with honor. This honor is not something to be taken for granted—it is a gift, placed upon the leader by the greater community in recognition of their behavior, values, and interactions.
True leadership gains influence through action, not authority. Among the top qualities of a good leader, you will commonly find:
Honor – Adherence to what is right and to a standard of moral conduct.
Communication – The ability to reach and inspire others through dialogue and other forms of expression.
Vision – Having a realistic and achievable plan for the future.
Respect – A positive feeling that demonstrates high regard for others. This must both be earned from the community and shown toward it.
Accountability – The ability to accept responsibility when things go wrong.
Strength – The capacity to maintain composure under stress and pressure.
These qualities represent the conduct that makes a leader worth following. While many more attributes could be added to this list, the importance of these virtues cannot be overstated. A leader is meant to be the best example among us all—and even when we fall short, we should always strive to grow into the best leaders we can be.

TELEGRAM EXCLUSIVE: 🌿⚡️VICTORY WREATH⚡️🌿
The response was overwhelming! You wanted to see more painted runestones. So, here you are!
These runestones are handmade from natural clay, hand carved and painted, and then sealed for longevity. This particular set features two concentric victory laurels, along with cascading blossoms and petals. On the back of each stone, the rune, along with its Icelandic name, is painted to match the carved rune on the front. Each set of runestones comes with a small 100% cotton bag, fit for both carrying the stones, and for use in ritual.
I am asking $100 USD, shipping included to every country. Please direct message me to purchase.
I offer custom painted runestone sets. Please DM to inquire!

For the inaugural documentary of the Outrider project, we journey to Tennessee, to meet a community that has its home deep within the Great Smoky Mountains - a community where tradition and self-reliance are the currencies.
Outrider was present for the Winter Nights Veizla, an important religious celebration for Odinists, and attended the grand opening of Academy One—the first martial arts academy of the American Jiu-Jitsu team Patria Gloria. The men and their families of this community built this academy with their own hands.

"The men sat drinking as long as they liked that night, and then went to bed ; but after they had left the hall Queen Thyri took down the hangings, and instead put up black and grey cloth until all was covered. She had done this because it was the custom in those days when tidings of grief came to do as she did."
-Flateyjarbók
Unfortunately, I had to say goodbye to my dear little cousin, who tragically lost her battle with cancer at just 18 years old.
I’ve been told that even in her final days, she kept her spirits high—doing everything she could to make her parents and brother smile, even as she faced her fate. For someone so young to carry such grace, humor, and strength through such pain is nothing short of incredible. She was a true light in this world, and a powerful reminder of the strength carried by the women in my family.
Thank you all that reached out with love and support. It’s in moments like these that we’re reminded of the importance of our community—when we support each other and stand together, there's nothing that we cannot handle.
I will be raising a special horn to Hannah during our Sumarmál event. May she join our ancestors in the great halls of our people. Forever in our hearts and minds.
