Recognize that there is a difference between the highly publicized "targeted enforcement" against criminals, and an actual sweeping "mass deportation."
What ICE has done so far is a very limited, precise operation against known convicts, which they have blasted all over television and the internet to create the perception of enforcement.
A mass deportation of millions would look much different and would have profound effects and probably catalyze organized resistance.
The Trump campaign was calling it the latter, but they always intended the former. They said "mass deportation," but when pressed they would describe "targeted enforcement." It was an intentional misdirection.
I'm sure there will be significant "returns" or illegals who "self-deport," or voluntarily leave. But it will not come close to the 10 million that came in under Biden. It was a trick.
And the point is that in 2016 Trump promised a wall and deporting all illegals— we thought that was insufficient 10 years ago. Now we're not even getting that. We're getting some deportations, maybe a wall, and H-1Bs.
Trumpism has been usurped.
