US President Donald Trump on Friday called for a rapid ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, underscoring rising frustration within his administration over what officials see as stalled and unproductive negotiations.
His remarks came shortly after Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a warning that the United States may pull out of the peace process if progress remains elusive.
"Yeah, very short," Trump said when asked to clarify expectations around a ceasefire timeline. "No specific number of days, but quickly. We want to get it done," he added, expressing confidence that a deal may be imminent.
Trump dismissed speculation that Russia is taking advantage of the US in these negotiations. "Nobody's playing anybody. We are going to see if we can get it [ceasefire] done. I think we have a really good chance of getting it done, and it's coming to a head right now," he told reporters.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening at an unprecedented rate, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Friday.
According to the agency, more than 90,000 forcibly displaced Palestinians are currently sheltering in 115 UNRWA-run facilities, as Israeli bombardment and a crippling blockade continue to escalate the catastrophe.
UNRWA highlighted that the ban on the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies, ongoing since March 2, has significantly deepened the suffering of civilians in Gaza. The blockade has further deteriorated both living conditions and access to healthcare across the Strip.

Iran has expressed openness to curbing aspects of its uranium enrichment program, but only if the United States offers binding guarantees that US President Donald Trump will not again abandon a future nuclear accord. A senior Iranian official conveyed this position to Reuters on Friday, just ahead of a second round of indirect US-Iran negotiations set for Saturday in Rome.
"Iran understood in indirect talks in Oman that Washington doesn't want Iran to stop all nuclear activities, and this can be a common ground for Iran and the US to start a fair negotiation," the official told Reuters.

The Trump administration has significantly escalated its campaign against Harvard University, demanding a comprehensive disclosure of its foreign financial relationships dating back a decade, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
In a letter addressed to Harvard President Alan Garber, the Department of Education's Office of the General Counsel alleged that the university submitted "incomplete and inaccurate" records concerning foreign gifts and contracts between 2014 and 2019.
"Today's records request is the Trump administration's first step to ensure Harvard is not being manipulated by, or doing the bidding of, foreign entities," said US Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, 39 Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces over 24 hours, while an additional 73 people were injured.
The Ministry noted that civil defense and ambulance crews are still unable to reach many victims trapped under the rubble or lying in the streets, due to the ongoing intensity of Israeli attacks.
Since the start of the Israeli genocide on Gaza on October 7, 2023, the death toll has surged to 51,065, with 116,505 wounded.
The Ministry also reported a sharp escalation in recent weeks, with 1,691 Palestinians killed and 4,464 injured since March 18, 2025, after "Israel" broke the ceasefire agreement and resumed wide-scale air and ground operations across the Strip.

Dr. Ahmed Dhair, a forensic pathologist in Gaza, has confirmed that 15 medics and rescue workers were intentionally executed by IOF in Rafah this March.
Dr. Dhair revealed that most suffered bullet wounds to the head, chest, back, and abdomen, along with injuries from explosives or “butterfly” bullets, designed to shatter inside the body, and fragmentation rounds.
The victims and their vehicles were later found buried in a sandy mass grave, with the UN concluding that the medics appeared to have been “executed one by one.”
Despite initial IOF claims that the ambulances were “suspicious” for not using lights, "Israel" later admitted to the killings. It also alleged, without presenting public evidence, that six victims were Hamas members, a claim firmly refuted by the Palestinian Red Crescent.

One person was martyred in an Israeli drone strike that targeted a motorcycle on the outskirts of Aitaroun, southern Lebanon, according to Al Mayadeen's correspondent.
The attack marks yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement by the Israeli occupation, which has repeatedly launched deadly airstrikes across Lebanon. In recent days, "Israel" has intensified its aggression, including a deadly raid on a car in Wadi al-Hujair and a separate fatal attack in Aitaroun that killed two, including a 17-year-old boy who succumbed to his wounds.
In a related context, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has confirmed as of April 15 that at least 71 civilians, including 14 women and nine children, have been killed in Israeli strikes on Lebanon since the November 27, 2024 ceasefire, "with over 92,000 people still unable to return to home."

Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported casualties after an Israeli airstrike targeted Al-Ayyoubiya School in Jabalia camp, northern Gaza, where displaced Palestinians had taken shelter.
Israeli atrocities and disregard to all human and moral values continue as in yet another horrific scene, Israeli occupation forces committed a massacre in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, on Wednesday night. Israeli warplanes deliberately bombed makeshift tents housing displaced Palestinians, setting them ablaze in a fiery inferno.
According to Al Mayadeen's correspondent, at least 10 people were killed and dozens injured in the al-Mawasi massacre, including children left charred.

In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump criticized Harvard University, calling it a “JOKE” and demanding it be stripped of federal funding.
“Harvard can no longer be considered even a decent place of learning, and should not be considered on any list of the World’s Great Universities or Colleges,” Trump wrote.
He further blasted the Ivy League school for hiring what he called “woke, Radical Left, idiots and ‘birdbrains.’”
His stance escalated after Harvard rejected political oversight of its admissions policies, hiring practices, and political orientation.

The Palestinian General Authority of Civil Affairs has confirmed the martyrdom of 20-year-old Musab Hassan Omar Adili, a Palestinian prisoner from the town of Huwara in the Nablus Governorate.
On April 16, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs released a statement marking Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, emphasizing that "the rise in systematic crimes practiced against Palestinian political detainees has lead to the direct and indirect killing of 63 identified prisoners since the genocide began, 40 of whom were arrested from the occupied Gaza Strip."
"Meanwhile, the occupation continues to withhold the bodies and identities of dozens of other Palestinian political detainees, leaving their families in the dark," the statement added.

Israeli troops will continue to occupy the buffer zones they've established in Gaza even after a resolution to end the conflict is reached, Defence Minister Israel Katz stated on Wednesday amid faltering efforts to renew a ceasefire agreement.
Since the operation was resumed last month, Israeli forces have established a vast "security zone" that extends deep into Gaza, forcing over 2 million Palestinians into increasingly confined areas in the south and along the coast.
"Unlike in the past, the IDF is not evacuating areas that have been cleared and seized," Katz said in a statement following a meeting with military commanders, adding that "tens of percent" of Gaza had been added to the zone.
"The IDF will remain in the security zones as a buffer between the enemy and the communities in any temporary or permanent situation in Gaza - as in Lebanon and Syria."

Donald Trump’s tariffs are expected to reverse the trend of international trade this year, dampening global economic growth, the World Trade Organization has cautioned.
In its most recent overview of the global trading system, the Geneva-based body noted that it had initially projected a robust 2.7% increase in goods trade for the year. However, due to Washington’s current trade strategy, it now forecasts a 0.2% decline.
While presenting these projections, the WTO’s Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, expressed particular concern over the growing "decoupling" between the US and China, describing it as "a phenomenon that is really worrying to me."
