🔴 A short while ago; Sayyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution upon his meeting with senior officials from the country's three branches of government:
The Oman talks are among dozens of tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we should not link the country's issues to these talks. While we are not overly optimistic about them, we are not overly pessimistic either; after all, it is a step that has been decided upon and has been implemented well in its early stages.
Of course, we are very pessimistic about the other side, but we are optimistic about our capabilities.

🔴 Tehran Times
Regarding the details of the first round of talks between Iran and the United States in Oman:
1. The negotiations took place at the home of Omani Foreign Minister Al-Busaidi. The delegations accompanying the negotiators were based at the hotel.
2. The negotiations were conducted in written and indirect texts, and less than ten documents were exchanged between the two sides. Araghchi was the one who presented the first document.
3. In his letters, Araghchi stated that Iran did not come to Muscat for show, and that Tehran's primary goal was to gauge the sincerity and seriousness of the American side and determine the possibility of reaching an agreement.
4. It was emphasized that the International Atomic Energy Agency would be the only external authority permitted to monitor Iran's nuclear program.
5. In exchange for nuclear restrictions and monitoring, Tehran is demanding the lifting of sanctions in several areas. After these sanctions are lifted, the United States should not reimpose them under other pretexts.
6. Araghchi also emphasized that reaching a general framework for consensus is essential for the negotiations to continue.
If the United States opposes the framework proposed by Iran at the first meeting, it must present its own alternative for Iran's consideration.
7. Iran informed the United States on Saturday that Washington bears full responsibility for ensuring that the trigger mechanism is not activated.
8. Witkoff was accompanied by two other individuals, one of whom is a nuclear expert.
9. The European Troika is deeply concerned about being marginalized on this issue.

🔴 Boaz Atzili, Professor of International Relations and Security Studies at American University in Washington
The overwhelming majority of the public understands that continuing the fighting only endangers the lives of prisoners and leads to their deaths. For this reason, all polls show broad and consistent public support for an agreement that would return all prisoners, rather than continuing the war in Gaza.
So, how does the prime minister manage to deceive the public time after time? It's simple. This is Netanyahu's skill at "divide and conquer," as he constantly separates the issue of prisoners from the issue of ending the war.
When the issue of prisoners is raised, Netanyahu and his media outlets are keen to direct the discussion to the number of prisoners whose release he is demanding. This makes it appear as though he is doing everything in his power to maximize the "gain" from the prisoner swap deal.
While in reality, they could all have been brought back long ago within the second and third phases.
Netanyahu's true goal, as the Shin Bet chief said, is "to conduct negotiations for the sake of negotiations, not to recover prisoners." Any other goal that would force an end to the war would pose a political risk to him.
So, he gains a few more months of stalling, through sporadic rounds of violence, only to then break the agreement and return to fighting, as he has done repeatedly,
And if someone dares to ask, "Can't you bring them all back? Didn't Hamas declare more than a year ago its willingness to bring them all back in exchange for ending the war?" then the rhetoric changes, attention is diverted, and the intimidation campaign begins under the slogan that terrifies every Israeli: "Ending the war before eliminating Hamas will lead to a repeat of what happened on October 7."
Journalists fall into this rhetorical trap time and again. Analysts who yesterday pointed out that 70% of Israelis support the release of prisoners, even if it requires ending the war, now speak of the danger of Hamas returning to power in Gaza.
For this reason, Netanyahu felt threatened by the pilots' letter and other letters of support, signed by tens of thousands of reserve soldiers, which undermine the rhetorical separation between the prisoners' issue and ending the war.
Ending the war is not a "price" but rather a security and political interest for Israel.
Therefore, demanding an end to the war in order to return prisoners is not a "rebellion," and an organization cannot be defeated by military force alone.
The way to deal with Hamas is to create a political alternative and provide a diplomatic horizon.
The way to ensure that what happened on October 7 will not happen again is to establish a strong and effective defense system. Netanyahu knows all this, but it does not serve his political survival, so why should he care?
This time, Netanyahu will not succeed in separating the connection between ending the war and the return of the prisoners. The truth will triumph over lies.

🔴 Muscat Meeting
Preliminary Assessment
Ma'an Bashour
April 12, 2025
Anyone who thought that a quick, indirect meeting between American and Iranian officials in Muscat would lead to a magical solution to the complex crisis between the two countries, which has spanned more than 45 years and is intertwined with political, economic, military, strategic, cultural, and ideological issues, is mistaken.
Those who believed that the lack of immediate progress meant that the talks between the two countries were faltering and unlikely to yield positive results were also mistaken.
In our view, the true assessment stems from the need for both sides to reach an agreement that precludes the outbreak of war between the two countries...and from both sides' conviction that the possibility of one side defeating the other is unlikely.
Of course, it is not appropriate in this haste to enumerate the reasons that led us to such conclusions, but I am among those who believe that the positive atmosphere that prevailed during the meeting in Muscat will have a positive impact on the arenas that have witnessed violent conflicts between the two sides. We must not overlook the possibility that the forces harmed by this agreement will seek to obstruct it by all means at their disposal, foremost among them the occupation entity, which has sought, and continues to seek, for decades...to push Washington into a war with Iran.
Will the official Arab regimes rush to take advantage of these developments so that their governments can unite, cohese, and unify their voice in support of Gaza, all of Palestine, and every Arab wound?
