Trump tariffs have little impact on prices so far, defying grim forecasts

Prices climbed at an unexpectedly slow pace last month, offering a boost to President Donald Trump, whose aggressive trade policies have sparked fears of a resurgence in inflation.

The Labor Department on Tuesday reported that prices rose at an annual rate of 2.3 percent, the smallest increase since early 2021. While price growth in so called core sectors of the economy - which exclude volatile food and energy costs - remained elevated at 2.8 percent, April's Consumer Price Index contained only scant evidence that Trump's tariffs have meaningfully driven up the cost of living.

"President Trump's plan to unleash American energy, cut regulations, and slash government waste is working!" The Trump War Room, an organ for the president's political operation, posted on X after Tuesday's report...

I completely forgot Politico existed there for a while! Anyway, might this have anything to do with the fact the tariffs are no longer in place and lasted for about a week? Those fucking penguins agreed a deal, m'laddy!

Putin sets conditions for return of Western firms

Moscow will act pragmatically, evaluating the pros and cons to its economy in each case, the Russian president has said.

Russia is ready to welcome back some of the Western companies that left its market after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict, as long as it serves Moscow's economic interests, President Vladimir Putin has stated. Back in 2022, numerous US, European, and Asian companies pulled out of Russia, citing supply problems brought about by the sweeping Western sanctions imposed on Moscow, as well as fears of secondary sanctions or public relations fallout.

Speaking during a meeting with Russian business leaders on Tuesday, Putin said that "we need to look at how these companies have behaved." Those who "have been rude, insulted us" should be denied the right to re enter the Russian market, he said...

Make cheeseburgers and shitty furniture, not war. Lol. From what I've read about all this, it seems many of the companies never left to begin with, but rather renamed themselves and registered a new trademark. I haven't looked into it much, mind you, but that's the impression I got. Even the stuff from companies that actually left can still be bought in Russia regardless. It was all retarded to being with. The "current thing" didn't last very long. I wonder what the next "thing" will be, because rest assured there will be!

Friends of genocide: Has Germany learned nothing from the Holocaust?

A prominent Jewish restaurant in Berlin chose to celebrate Israel Day with a joke about the slaughter of Palestinians.

A single, small, low quality do it yourself poster recently displayed in the center of Germany's capital Berlin has caused a minor scandal that has gone against the grain of the country's usually unshakable support for Israel while the latter is committing genocide.

The essence of the incident is simple: in late April, the Deutsch Israelische Gesellschaft (DIG) - "German Israeli Society" - held one of its "Israel Days" in Berlin. In Germany, the DIG is a prominent and powerful organization. Its main source of funding, according to the country's official lobbying register for 2023, is the German state. The latter's Federal Agency for Civic Education - in essence, Germany's office of Centrist ideological orthodoxy and indoctrination - describes it as the country's "central organization […] where friends of Israel come together in non partisan cooperation..."

I missed my boy Tarik Cyril Amar, seems he was on vacation or something. His first article after coming back is a bit of a... Meh. A far cry from his usual writings. By that I don't mean the article itself is bad, I mean he usually writes about things more significant than this. However, it's still an interesting article. All that being said, the answer to the question is no, Germany learned nothing from anything. Individuals learn, people don't.

The CIA's war before war: From Iraq to Iran

A US blueprint drawn in 2002 to break Iraq before invading is being revived against Iran - with sabotage, assassinations, and psychological warfare already underway.

On 11 September 2001, while smoke still rose from the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, two meetings - one in Tel Aviv and the other in Washington - put Iraq in the crosshairs. Then Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon convened an emergency meeting of his National Security cabinet and resolved to exploit the attacks to push for war against Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Embedded Israeli agents in the hawkish Bush administration were tasked with advancing this agenda. Meanwhile, former US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz, initiated internal discussions on targeting Iraq...

An interesting article by Shivan Mahendrarajah. Speaking of 9/11, there's no wonder there are so many, shall we call them, conspiracy theories, around the attack. Way too many things were way too "convenient." I don't know what the truth of it is, obviously, but I'm not surprised people are still not buying the official version. The official version doesn't even make sense on the most fundamental level. Iraq had nothing to do with any of it.

Trump urges Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel, highlighting US led "Abraham Accords"

During a speech addressed to Saudi Arabia's leaders on Tuesday, President Donald Trump urged the oil rich kingdom to formally recognize Israel, expressing that such a gesture would be a significant personal honor.

The Abraham Accords describe agreements brokered by the US during the Trump administration that normalized diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab nations. Being signed in 2020, the initial agreements involved Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. Later, Morocco and Sudan also joined.

The accords marked a significant shift in ME diplomacy, as they established formal ties, including cooperation in areas like trade, tourism, security between Israel and countries that had previously not recognized it...

Cooperation is always good, as long as it's not to the detriment of others. Often, unfortunately, it is. The Washington Post wrote that Trump's trip to the region will be about business, rather than geopolitics, which obviously wasn't true. I wonder where they get their sources. The Saudi Arabian saga continues, as they sell their supposed "brothers" for our weapons and "protection." Why do they need that protection? I don't know. Maybe from the various terrorist organizations they helped create. Create a problem, sell a solution. As always.

Stocks get tech boost to wipe out 2025 declines: Markets wrap

A rally in the world's largest technology companies wiped out the stock market's losses for the year on speculation that tensions around President Donald Trump's trade war are cooling, with the latest inflation data showing limited pressures thus far.

Equities climbed toward the highest since February, the month that marked the S&P 500's latest all time high. The gauge was up almost 1% on Tuesday, with chipmakers leading the charge on news the US is preparing to announce a deal boosting Saudi Arabia's ability to buy AI products from the likes of Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Short term Treasury yields fell amid bets on two Federal Reserve rate cuts this year...

Doubt I'll ever understand this world. Seems like we just collectively decided that a piece of paper is worth whatever amount of money because yes. Tesla is supposedly worth far more than Ford, while producing a fraction of the output. People sell together, buy together, it's all agreed in advance, one way or another. Even the fact that laws like that about insider trading even exist says a lot. Maybe I'm just too simple to understand, but I do feel it's all a game for the wealthy. A bit like Monopoly, only with real money. Well, by "real" I mean fake and by "money," I mean currency. See, even the basics are fake.

Farmers markets return to Denver, vendors weigh in on economic challenges for local producers

Springtime in Denver means the return of blooming flowers, warmer days, and a cherished local tradition: farmers' markets.

Despite some vendors facing certain economic challenges, they're ready to bring their locally made and homegrown goods directly to the community. It's a model that many small businesses like the PB Love Company rely on. Mario Esparza, affectionately known as the "Head Nut," was busy showing off his company's handcrafted nut butters Saturday morning. "Selling direct is how we started," Esparza shared. "Through farmers markets, then through our website."

For ten years, Esparza has grown his business alongside Colorado's market scene. But growth hasn't come without challenges, especially in the face of national economic shifts. He said his company has seen a direct impact from recent tariffs...

Two reasons I'm sharing this. Firstly, I really like the farmers' markets in Denver. If you've never been and can go, you should! The second reason is that I got annoyed with CBS Colorado talking about how tariffs negatively impact farmers. Bro... Farmers are being negatively impacted by so many things in our country, it's a bit strange to see state level news site talk about tariffs. I get it on CBS, but not on CBS Colorado. What about all the ridiculous bureaucracy, why don't they talk about that instead? That's a lot more immediate concern than tariffs. Don't need to give a shit about tariffs if some desk jockey comes to confiscate my crops because I incorrectly filed the N142 form or whatever. Even people who aren't exactly farmers, but grow stuff because they want to be self reliant are being harassed. The hell is this article? The hell is it for?

In Mideast, Trump plans to focus on business deals, not geopolitics

The trip is expected to focus primarily on cementing trade ties. On the heels of Trump Organization business deals in the region, it also showcases the blurring of Trump's private business ventures with foreign policy.

President Donald Trump plans to leave Monday for a four day trip to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, a mission that is expected to focus heavily on business deals and new investments from the oil rich region.

The swing through deep pocketed Middle East monarchies, Trump's first major international travel of his second term, is a marker of the president's priorities and another sign of his intention to de emphasize the traditional US allies that typically serve as the first foreign destinations for new presidents. It also reflects his affection for the region, its wealth, and the pageantry that the host countries plan to roll out for him...

Here's an article detailing Trump's upcoming trip, written by Michael Birnbaum and Matt Viser. Keep in mind it's a bit of a fanboy article, like most Washington Post articles, but that's okay.

Once in sync, Trump and Netanyahu now show signs of division

Both men are politically divisive, fiercely combative and have outsize egos. But as Mr. Trump arrives in the Middle East next week, the fate of the region could hinge on their relationship.

When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met President Trump at the White House in February, the two men could not have been more in sync. The president had designated Houthi militants in Yemen as a terrorist organization. They both spoke of stopping Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb. Mr. Trump even mused about expelling Palestinians from Gaza.

"You say things others refuse to say," Mr. Netanyahu gushed in the Oval Office, with cameras running. "And then, after the jaws drop, people scratch their heads. And they say, 'You know, he's right.'"

Yes, I've seen this already, but decided not to talk about it because I didn't buy it. I still don't buy it. There were rumors about Trump cancelling this and that, about distancing himself from the Rabbi, about JD Vance doing the same. All turned out to be bullshit. Sure, there may be disagreements, especially as far as Iran is concerned. As long as there are two people on this planet, there will be disagreements. That is a far cry from a "division," however. Netanyahu has been trying to drag the US into a war with Iran for a very long time, always unsuccessfully. Let's hope for Trump too, the political cost will outweigh his shabbos goy energy. We will see.

US won't leave NATO - Rubio

Washington is as active as ever in the military bloc, the secretary of state has said.

...Rubio made the remarks at NATO's foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels on Thursday. US President Donald Trump had previously threatened to leave NATO if bloc members failed to increase their military spending. He has called for a huge hike to 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) from the current 2% benchmark only reached by 23 of its 32 members in 2024...

Another example of how little has changed since Trump's previous presidency. It's all the same! I know I don't have many people on my channel who thought this was a thing, but do know there are some. Fellas, the US won't leave NATO, because NATO is our own tool of foreign policy. Whoever believed those dumb rumors seriously needs to get a medical check up because your memory sucks ass. I ain't gon' happen. We've been here before. Seriously! Anyway, I'm looking forward to how MAGA spins this one.

Iran responds to Trump's nuclear talks proposal as US sends bombers to region

Iran delivered a formal written response to President Trump's letter proposing new nuclear talks and threatening consequences if a deal is not reached swiftly, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Thursday.

...The source did not offer details on the nature of the Iranian response. The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment...

Please, Iran, don't disappoint. Don't do this to me, not you. Yes, yes, I get it, it's not about me. Iran should do what it thinks is best for them. I'm just saying, one chance was missed already, don't miss another one. The war is coming anyway, regardless of what they do. If they fold now, the Jewish administration will be back for more. Then more still. Then, they'll attack anyway.

White House installs Trump loyalists at federal HR agency after "five things" email

The White House has installed two Trump loyalists at the federal HR agency after allies of billionaire Elon Musk blindsided top Trump officials with a surprise government wide email last month demanding workers summarize five things they achieved at work in the previous week.

Billy Long, Donald Trump's nominee to run the Internal Revenue Service, and Douglas Hoelscher, a former aide to Trump during his 2017 2021 presidential term, are now serving as senior advisors at the Office of Personnel Management, the agency confirmed to Reuters.

"Federal HR agency" sounds like a collection of the most dull people in the universe. Anyway, some of this sounds like the media are trying to drive a wedge between Trump's relationship with Musk - such as it is. The language there, "blindsided." Are you sure about that? I thought Musk was given the power to do such things, no? I don't know, I'm just asking.

Russia's envoy to UN calls for moving towards new global paradigm not dominated by West

White House withdrawing Stefanik nomination to serve as US ambassador to UN

The White House has informed the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that it is withdrawing Rep. Elise Stefanik's nomination to serve as US ambassador to the United Nations, reflecting how critical her vote is in the House to passing President Trump's agenda.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair James E. Risch received notice from the White House on Thursday afternoon that it was pulling Stefanik's nomination, confirming a rumor that circulated earlier in the day in the media.

Why is this even a subject of discussion? I thought we were withdrawing from the UN. And NATO. Is Hillary locked up yet? Sorry, I'm in a sarcastic mood today. I should stop. I will now stop.
