An Irish student on reddit who is doing a Masters course at UCD's Smurfit School says he now regrets paying so much to move to Dublin and do the course due to the number of Indians in his class.
🔹 He says at least 70% of the other students are Indian and their lack of proficiency in English means group work "is a mess" with some Indians not bothering to show up for presentations, so he ends up doing most of the work.
🔹 He suspects the English entrance exam is inadequate to filter out poor English speakers or that the Indians 'did something else' to pass it.
🔹 Many of the tutors are also Indian with thick accents making them difficult to understand and they often answer questions in Hindi.
🔹 He says he has seen Indians take pride in cheating, using ChatGPT for entire assignments and having no interest in the coursework—"somehow many still pass."
🔹 An Indian in the replies says UCD actively promotes the courses in India and charges €14k for them.

Universities do it as a source of funding. 14 grand some of these courses can cost for non EU students.
Indians often do it because their universities are extremely corrupt/as a way to get into Ireland. Also just to be seen in the West is a status thing for them.
Apparently as well, it’s gotten far worse over the past decade or so.
How are these people passing tests with little or bad English? I think we know.

From a quick google, there is an estimated 128k foreigners in 2023 learning English in Ireland via the VISA Mills
There was 27k in Gaeltacht summer courses last year but that is all mostly Irish people learning Irish. No stats on foreigners. If you go to the Gaeltacht at most you find a European student and some Irish Americans.
