Shout out to our friend WPM who consistently supports and reviews our friends in the pulp sphere.
Here he gave The House on the Borderland a shot. WPM very much enjoys character driven stories that are more action oriented.
When I saw he was going to review it I knew he wasn’t going to love it. It was written in 1908 before the word “horror” was even used. It’s an atmospheric psychedelic tale written by a writer who was exploring brand new territory.
It’s not perfect but I personally think it’s brilliant and so did Lovecraft. Hodgson is one of those guys in the timeline of western literature that gets forgotten.
The Bizarchives is about bringing new authors to the forefront as well as keeping the legacy of the greats alive.
Not everything we put out is going to be everyone’s cup of tea. We cover a lot of genres and fiction is a completely different animal than non-fiction.
Absolutely zero hard feelings with WPM. We greatly appreciate his contributions to the pulp movement and that he took a shot at a book outside of his wheelhouse just to support us. Nothing but love.

These people have never read the ancient sagas or poems. They just “year zero” a point after the introduction of modern “literary fiction” and speak from authority as if they’re the rightful inheritors of an art tradition.
“The fact is” that the flat arc character is how we’ve always told heroic tales. YOU created this new thing in reaction to the old thing.
Which is fine if your motivation is to create novelty. But, condescension always drips from their words revealing their transgressive intentions.

I’d like to make a humble request of my audience.
I have several hundred folks that utilize my various chats. Many folks have used these spaces to network, build and enrich themselves in many ways.
For that I am very happy. Exactly what I set out to do.
But they didn’t crop up out of nowhere. It took many years to build my platforms, network and procure these spaces to be fertile in this regard.
And then I share them with all of you. And I will continue to do so.
All that I ask is for some help with engagement.
I know I have tons of projects, products, paywalls etc. Not everyone has the funds to support all of it. And not everything is of everyone’s taste. That’s okay.
But this is the only way I feed my family. I’m locked in. I’ve given everything to the mission here.
If you’re a Dave respecter, you’ve benefited from the spheres I’ve created or you just enjoy the vibe. All I’m asking is to click like, react, drop a comment, book review, share it into other chats, whatever you want.
It takes less than a second to do those things and it helps me fight the algorithms that want to bury me.
You guys are my only allies in this thing. Boost your boy.

Whom ready?
We're returning to the classic style book form. We were really proud of the aesthetic of the magazine format we did with #6 but creating a full color magazine is very labor intensive and expensive.
It's tough out there. Money is tight. So, we're going to the old hat of book format so we can bring the price tag back down for our Bizarbarians.
Full color magazines look awesome and we're going to get back into them eventually. But BZA itself will be back to its roots.
Will be available in the next few days.
