Figure virtually ALL devices have a front facing camera on them. This has the potential to identify you as you use your device. Even if covered, it could use infrared. Can't renember where I saw it, on TG somewhere, but phones are cobstantly flashing infrared. It was a video someone took with an infrared filtered video camera of people being flashed in the face while walking and looking at their phones.

yes.... it could be on at any moment. Again I've been staying abreast with the developement in the "face" department. here's a look on my newer device alas. I think this video should capture it asking for permission.... Believe it or not, even though google seems evil, being so big, they do honor permissions, they take it seriously. hold on i will send a video navigating the system, I know you had a galaxy at one time, I don't know if you still do....

in this video, the "face" folder is not allowed. On my older galaxy it is, that's where I do development stuff. There's no pictures of my face it in, just pictures I placed in there of course lol.

ahhh, good post thank you. Speaking of privacy, I reported IRS.gov and ID.me to the IC3. I did mention that I understand tax fraud and identidy theft is running rampant through IRS filings, but requiring "biometric data" is over the line. However; my complaint is that I exausted all avenue's to try and "proove my itentidy" but the website is incapable of processing my request for payroll history. Even THOUGH I had already completed the id.me registration AND provided my state issued, federally compliant driver's license via JPG as requested, attempting to provide a "self potrait" via JPG failed. THIS is the step that request "permission for biometric data, ie: picture of face. A subject I've been quite interested in for Android developement purposes.
Meow, let's examine this a step further. My face is on my driver's license as is required for state identification. There is never a request for "biometric data" for a picture of the state/federal identification, which of course begs the question, what other data could this request include if I've already willingly provided my physical identification? Well, I could only take an educated guess here that "data" (plural), and the request for priveliged system level access to my device might be necessary to compare the face I allege is mine to a track record of pictures that may inculde my face kept on my device. And it's made easy of course, seeing as how Ai is here to assist without our request on most smartphones, to identify faces, and it comes with a special destinction and "portrait" effects.

please feel free to post this in reply to tore's post, i hope she see's it. I'm banned in that chat, probably due to the multiple me's problem. No big deal, I still love ToRe all the same. And I know she care's a lot about getting "verified" on X for example, and bots all over the place are a problem. There are real reasons people need to be identified. I for one do NOT want somebody to claim my taxes! Or my social security, etc etc. We're headed in this direction, so I say be as vigiliant as possible, and stay front facing on the issue. But again, as far as gathering "data" on me using my cell phone, they can kiss my ass, the dmv has my photo, i remember the day they took it, it's my birthday. There's no reason that and my email, phone number etc, shouldn't be enough.
