Theatre is there when you speak from the stage about something that you love and something that you care about. And if it resonates with the audience then the magic of the Theatre happens.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN UKRAINE is exactly that.
- theatre performance created from verbatim stories of real Ukrainian refugees.
- theatre performance that combines evacuation train, German town, Lviv and Mariupol
- theatre performance that found its shape in the freezing cold of Borodyanka

And yet the theatre performance that entertains and makes you smile and teaches you and asks your advice. Theatre performance after which you want to hug.

In our opinion - the best reflection on russian-ukrainian war the Theatre can make

Maksym Kryvtsov (UKR) - I will get my life back (perf. by Donna Frose (Canada)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTywFGfOipI

“I will get my life back
I promise”
it's written with a marker on a wall of a popular mall in Kyiv
they have coffee and cakes there and trendy clothes
necklaces and music and balconies with incredible view
I saw
the fog embrace a skyscraper
quietly and tender.
“Love does not exist”
it’s written on the wall of the same mall on another floor
nor sea does not exist
or air does not exist
dreams do not exist
nor do I
but the coffee is good here
somebody wrote below those words:
“Who made you think so, sunshine?”
you know, I will tell you who:
the swamp which you have to wade to get
to the field fortification from the battle position
the mines which explode nearby
the winter which strangles you hard
the human parts thrown around
lying lost in the field
grotesquely and untidily
the nightmare which makes you cry out loud
the rain when you have to wait for several days before you get changed
and the sunshine
hiding in the basement
because of the air raid alert
really
who made you think so, sunshine?
A short leave
several days including those spent on the way
I meet with my friends
make things out of clay
bake a cheesecake for the first time in two years
it didn’t get too good
together with a friend, a girl,
we observe
the winter as a cat catch outside streets as a mouse
and holding
I can breathe
I see a girl cross the street running
with a big skinny dog on a leash
the top floors of the old housing blocks
emerge here and there
as butterfly swimmers
Christmas lighting in windows
a bit more of this
and I will want to become a part of a normal city again
to walk a big dog
to make fried eggs
to drink coffee in lovely bookstore cafes with tall bookshelves
it’s dangerous
it’s very dangerous
quiet life is a sickness
get those thoughts out of your head
throw as used shoe covers
run away from here
to your field fortification
to your swamp
to your mines
I will get my life back
will I get my life back?

I promise.

watching MULHOLLAND DRIVE, one of David Lynch's finest at DyVy Movie Club on Apr 11

Mulholland Drive is a 2001 surrealist neo-noir mystery art film written and directed by David Lynch. Its plot follows an aspiring actress (Naomi Watts) who arrives in Los Angeles, where she befriends a woman (Laura Harring) who is suffering from amnesia after a car accident. The film follows several other vignettes and characters, including a Hollywood director (Justin Theroux) who encounters mob interference while casting for his latest film. Lynch's tagline for the film is "a love story in the city of dreams".

The surrealist narrative has left the film's events open to interpretation. Lynch declined to offer an explanation, leaving audiences, critics, and even the film's own cast to speculate on its meaning.

Mulholland Drive earned Lynch the 2001 Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director, as well as nomination for the Academy Award for Best Director for the film. The film boosted Watts' Hollywood profile considerably.

Movie club experd this time: Anton, a photographer, a DP, and visualist whose visual style is as weird as David Lynch's movies themselves)))

Adam Kesher: Hey, that girl is not in my film!
Vincenzo Castiliane: It's no longer your film.

watching CIVIL WAR movie at our DyVy Movie Club this Friday
(directed by Alex Garland)

Apr 04 (Fri) 19:00
Try Teatry Hub (3 Simi Brodskykh, Shuliavka)

admission - 150uah (can be paid at the door)

review from our good friend and frequent visitor Captain Kyiv:

"When I watched this movie for the first time I wasn´t very impressed. Alex Garland has his reputation as an interesting director but here something definitely went wrong. And I believe that something started with the script. This is purely the case when the trailer is more interesting than the movie.

Still the actual story - civil war inside the United States of America - is now viewed in a totally new light (considering the new US administration and their actions). Plus there are several scenes from that movie that are stuck in my memory forever (interrogating the refugees, assaulting the White House, etc)

So I'm going. They show CIVIL WAR this Fri night at DyVy Movie Club Kyiv"
