Sir Paul Pindar’s House was a 16th century timber-framed mansion on Bishopsgate Street, London.

The façade is a rare example of Elizabethan timber-framed architecture, surviving the Great Fire of 1666. It features intricate carvings, including the City of London’s coat of arms and a Scottish thistle. In 1890, it was demolished for Liverpool Street Station’s expansion but was preserved by the Great Eastern Railway Company and donated to the V&A, where it remains on display.

"Tube Refreshment Specials" During the Blitz (WWI Era)

During the Blitz in World War II, London's Underground stations served as air-raid shelters for thousands of civilians. To support those seeking refuge, the London Underground introduced "Tube Refreshment Specials," which were trains equipped to deliver meat pies and hot drinks to sheltering individuals. This initiative provided much-needed sustenance and comfort during the nightly bombings, showcasing the resilience and community spirit of Londoners during the war.
