"In 392 AD, a decree against paganism was issued in Rome, twelve years after the Christian Church had already been recognized. This year documented the victory of an alien worldview over a large state once founded by Nordic settlers. Bishops now penetrated the many gaps in the Roman administrative apparatus and assumed the care of a fragile state. Christian doctrine, which until then had fought against the state, now emerged as the guardian of the coherence of the old empire; Christian doctrine became the Roman state religion. These connections between Rome and the Christian Church must be recognized in order to understand the greatness and power of the Church, and thus of the papacy. Christianity had, after all, developed an adaptability to peoples, political ideas, worldviews, and cultures that was unique in history. What has the Roman Church inherited from this slowly dissolving Roman state?
1. Through the teachings of Saint Augustine, the Roman coercive state becomes the City of God. The state derives its power from the Church.
2. The idea of civilization, i.e., the goal of mankind to become a citizen of the Roman Empire, is transformed into the goal: mankind should strive for citizenship of heaven. Common to both the Christian and the civilizational ideas is the rejection of race, ethnicity, and individual culture. Just as the state first did, the Church now attempts to present to the "brothers in Christ" throughout the world a complete spiritual world, whose boundaries and framework are determined by the papal see. Without regard for the further development of a people, without regard for the spiritual attitude specific to each race, all "believers" are forced into this rigid pattern of Catholicism."

These orders naturally also include the prohibition that the party offer writings by clergy and young representatives of the church, hold training lectures based on these writings, or even distribute them. The distribution of such publications is of course prohibited even if the authors are members of the NSDAP."

The High Command of the Army has been informed that the Protestant Military Chaplain for District XVII has approached the Supreme Church Council in Vienna with a request for a Sunday collection, the proceeds of which were intended to provide members of the armed forces with religious literature. Such an approach is entirely impermissible and to be disapproved of.
The Protestant Military Chaplain is to be instructed accordingly.
Military chaplains and civilian clergy involved in military pastoral care (garrison chaplains in reserve hospitals) are only permitted to offer approved religious literature. This literature is listed in the catalogues maintained by the field bishops and is distributed on the Protestant side by the Evangelical Press Association for Germany e.V., Berlin-Steglitz, Beymestraße 8, and on the Catholic side by the Catholic War Aid Office, Department of Literature, Berlin C 2, Oranienburgerstraße 12. This literature is made available for a flat-rate payment provided by the High Command of the Army.
It is prohibited to request approved religious literature from other agencies or organisations, even against payment. Consequently, it is unnecessary to approach church or other bodies for donations of reading materials.
Specialised agencies are tasked with providing literature of narrative content to members of the armed forces."

"Whether it is the life of the stars, or the life of trees, or the life of animals or bacteria. Whether it is the history of Prussia or the prehistory of Germania. There is something to be shown everywhere. The magnitude of this event that God has brought about can be shown. Much earlier in the years, anti-occult measures were taken. In 1938 party officials ordered to promote "enlightenment" from Experts rather than enforce stringent measures against all forms of occultism. Though the ‘enlightenment’ demonstrations did nothing to dampen Himmler, Ley, or Hörmann’s personal interest in esotericism. [1]
Despite the crackdown from Heydrich [2], Himmler and many high-ranking SS officials maintained a deep interest in occult and border scientific theories. Himmler himself believed in the legitimacy of certain occult practices and saw value in "scientific occultism" for its potential political and ideological applications (see Himmlers letter to Heydrich above).
The Hess Action was remarkably moderate in comparison to measures taken against other ‘enemies of the Reich’. Even Rosenberg’s office, Bormann’s Chancellery, and the SD, which had worked assiduously to combat occultism before June 1941, remained con - strained by NS affinities for border science and a nuanced attitude toward occultism. Such was the case in respect to Rosenberg’s expert in the Office of Defence against Astrology and World Ice Theory (Abwehrstelle gegen Astrologie und Welteislehre), Kurd Kisshauer [6] As Rosenberg’s attack dog in occult and religious matters, Kisshauer believed that nearly every other NSDAP office, from Goebbels’ RMVP to Himmler’s Gestapo, was infested with occultists. [7] Even Wilhelm Wulff, who was initially arrested by the anti-occult action received amnesty from Himmler. The astrologer followed up with a request that the SS return the books and other occult materials the Gestapo had confiscated in the Hess Action more than two years before. In late 1943 Nebe ordered the return of Wulff’s entire library. A few months later Wulff became Himmler’s personal astrologer. [8]

Despite the crackdown from Heydrich [2], Himmler and many high-ranking SS officials maintained a deep interest in occult and border scientific theories. Himmler himself believed in the legitimacy of certain occult practices and saw value in "scientific occultism" for its potential political and ideological applications (see Himmlers letter to Heydrich above).

The SD and Gestapo commissioned dozens of well-intentioned reports and peer reviews aimed at differentiating "scientific occultism’" from charlatanry. [1] As a result, Heydrich confirmed in June 1938 that while ‘commercial astrology’ should finally be banned, "astrology as a research field’ should "not be prevented, per request of the Reichsführer" [2] To be sure, when Hitler gave a speech in August 1938 denying that the movement was tied to mystical influences, it set off a flurry of debates within the SS regarding the viability of ‘scientific occultism’. Ultimately, Himmler and others determined not to interpret Hitler’s general comments as a blanket attack on the occult. [3] Himmler then sent a letter to Heydrich telling him:
"As you know, I do not consider astrology to be pure humbug, but believe that there is something behind it [...] We must do much more to restrict [charlatans] in a way that we only allow specific communities of research in this sphere." [4]

He now wants to found a religious Arndt League in Wittenberg. What falls should be pushed, Mr. Kerrl! The Führer is rightly very skeptical about a church replacement. Hitler’s commitment to biological evolution comes through again in his Second Book of 1928. In the opening pages of the book, Hitler described the history of the earth in a way that is clearly evolutionary, and he included humans in his evolutionary account:
"The history of the world in the ages when humans did not yet exist was initially a representation of geological occurrences. The clash of natural forces with each other, the formation of a habitable surface on this planet, the separation of water and land, the formation of the mountains, plains, and the seas. That is the history of the world during this time. Later, with the emergence of organic life, human interest focuses on the appearance and disappearance of its thousandfold forms. Man himself finally becomes visible very late, and from that point on he begins to understand the term ‘world history’ as referring primarily to the history of his own development—in other words, the representation of his own evolution. This development is characterized by the never-ending battle of humans against animals and also against humans themselves. Finally, out of the unclear tangle of individual beings, formations rise—families, tribes, peoples, states. The portrayal of their genesis and dissolution alone is the replication of the eternal struggle for survival."
