I told a friend an embarrassingly long time ago that I'd make him a walking stick and here it is.
It was taken from a limb of fallen ancient oak, although the limb was almost completely rotten, the heart wood was in excellent condition, very sturdy and as an added bonus full of character. After hacking the fatwood away it left this interesting shape complete with a thumb hold. It's far from the easiest wood to carve with but you get a lovely finish with linseed oil.

A few days ago I received an unexpected mystery package in the post and on the front I could see that it had come from @TheLadyTreowwyrhta so I knew I was in for a treat!
This carving of Eir blew me away! The level of detail in it is something deadly difficult to achieve, the birds head on her belt is tiny (about the size of a pinky finger nail) and her cauldron has legs that you can't necessarily see but she carved them in anyway!
She has captured the female form perfectly here and her flowing hair is otherworldly, much like the healing smoke that rises to meet it.
If that wasn't enough she also sent a couple of extra gifts which you may recognize.
I'm deeply grateful for this and Eir will take pride of place on my altar.

I found this piece of oak just laying around after some tree surgeons had tidied up a tree whilst walking my dog. When I picked it up I could already see a face shape in it complete with a protruding nose and eye sockets.
All I had to do was simply dig out the face shape that was already there and add details to it.
This one was gifted to a friend and now lives in his garden where it continues to have the same semi surprised look.

And here is my last commission, simple Baldr and Frigg weohs, 5" tall in tulipwood for the upcoming Sumarmál event over in the US

Cut from white oak, I wanted this interpretation of an Einherjar to be rustic, simple and abstract. It was built up organically, worked on a small bit at a time in between projects until bit by bit I realized what it was supposed to be.
The design on his head was created by Hāmasson for Wulf Ingessunu and was etched on using carbon paper before being carved in with a 0.5mm v tool.
This one was gifted to the legendary Wulf Ingessuno of Wodens Folk and I'm deeply honoured to hear it's been used in some of his rites.

With this Woden weoh I wanted to concentrate on the detailing of the eye. Made from ash, I felt it was important to make it as lifelike as possible and to appear as he is watching with an analytical mind at all times.
This one ended up being traded with Dan from the Fyrgen for a signed album that I listen to pretty much daily at this point, as well as a few other bits and pieces.

This is the second hatchet restoration I did, this one for my youngest son.
I found it in a military surplus store, it was blunt with a wobbly head and had woodworm at some point but since it was made in England I decided to give it some real TLC.
The twin Wyrm relief carving serve as extra grip for his little hands and the band has ᚨᛚᚢ ᚢᛚᚨ inscribed into it.

I tried something a little different with this one, I wanted to create something ornate, portable, detailed but quite robust and lightweight. I wanted the image of Woden to look just as good on a hoarg in a woodland as it would on an altar in someones living room.
I took and adapted the image from the Woden statue that you get a very brief glimpse of in the film The Northman.
Made out of basa wood, It was gifted to someone I've sadly lost contact with so I'm unsure of its fate.

Another of my earlier pieces.
Here I attempted more detailing with the eyes and hair but still had quite a bit to learn in regards to face shape. In my opinion face shape and proportions don't matter too much with male wood spirits as they can be characatured.
This one was gifted to my dad and now has it's place watching over people and listening to their conversations in his garden seating area.

Mysterious Ionic Column Carved into Fallen Oak Tree
This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
