The historical district of Kyriotissa in Veria - encompassing a significant part of the Old Town and highlighted with Byzantine churches.
Ascent to the Cross. Vatopedi monastery, Athos, Greece.
Neo-Russian beauty of the Saints Martha and Mary monastery in Vladivostok.
And in conclusion of today's selection, we'll take a look at the portal of the modern cathedral of Podgorica - adorned with a large mosaic, depicting the event to which the temple is dedicated - the Holy Resurrection.
Dome of the Epiphany church in the Russian village of Byilovo, which is slowly being restored.
Mysterious walls of the Flamouri Transfiguration monastery in Greece.
A dramatic theatre in Gabrovo, Bulgaria - established in an eclectic building of the former city chitalishte.
Just two cellars of Priutino manor in Russia.
The recently beautified and conserved ruins on the Romano-Georgian fort of Arhavi in Turkey, which locals still call Ciha - meaning literally "fort" in Georgian.
An old magistrate's building in Sremski Karlovci in Serbia, built in the transitional style from Baroque to Classicism.
The Holy Fire descended in Jerusalem!
Descent from the Cross. Saint Pantaleon Monastery, Athos.
An Eastern Christian monastery with walls whose merlons are shaped like swallowtails.

Where can you find it? The first thought, of course, is Russia. Introduced to Russian soil from Italy, here this detail has taken root so well that many people associate it not with Western Europe, but with Russia.

The second option that few would think of is Greece. During the Francocracy, many features of Italian architecture have were adopted into local architecture, including this one, but the number of examples is small.

But you certainly don't expect to see such a thing in Egypt! The history of Deir el-Muharraq monastery is extremely ancient, and for most of this history it was fortified. The active development of the monastery complex nowadays led to the construction of new walls - this time decorative, and although not everything turned out well - these gates are definitely not bad.

And to conclude today's selection, let's take a look at the Church of the Annunciation on the Greek island of Tinos. One of the most characteristic and luxurious examples of Greek neo-Baroque, it is not the largest and most beautiful Annunciation church in the country - that role, of course, goes to the Cathedral of Athens - but the more impressive this church looks, considering it does not have the status of a local cathedral.
