On February 16, 1722, Peter the Great of Russia signed the Decree on Succession, a groundbreaking reform that fundamentally altered the traditional system of transferring power in the Russian Empire. Previously, the throne was passed through hereditary primogeniture, typically from father to eldest son. Peter's decree abolished this custom, granting the reigning monarch absolute authority to choose their successor. This decision allowed the sovereign to prioritize qualities such as merit, loyalty, or competence over mere lineage or birthright.

Peter's motivation for this reform stemmed from his dissatisfaction with the existing system and his distrust of his grandson, Peter Alexeyevich. He sought to prevent unqualified or potentially oppositional figures from ascending to the throne, aiming instead to ensure that Russia’s ruler would be someone capable of continuing his ambitious reforms.

Despite its revolutionary intent, the decree had unintended consequences. Peter himself failed to designate an heir before his death in 1725, leaving Russia without a clear line of succession. This oversight plunged the empire into a period of political instability and palace coups that lasted for much of the 18th century. The era saw frequent power struggles among nobles and military factions, as well as rapid changes in leadership.

The Decree on Succession remained influential but controversial until Emperor Paul I addressed its flaws in 1797. Paul introduced a new law that restored hereditary succession but restricted it to male descendants in order of primogeniture. This reform aimed to bring stability to the monarchy after decades of uncertainty and conflict.

Peter’s decree remains a pivotal moment in Russian history, reflecting both his visionary leadership and the challenges of implementing lasting reforms in an autocratic system.

P.S. On Friday, Fox News claimed that, contradicting Hegseth, Vance had supposedly said the NATO option wasn’t off the table for Ukraine. Opinion by Yury Podolyaka: Europe in Shock

This morning, the howls of hyenas echoed across Europe. Yesterday, they were too stunned to fully grasp and digest the unfolding events, but after a night's sleep, they woke up in complete disarray.

Local politicians are now scrambling to condemn Trump, claiming that Putin has outmaneuvered him. They argue that Russia has achieved its goals, rendering all the losses suffered in Ukraine meaningless.

Judging by the statements already made by Trump and members of his administration, they are prepared to pressure the Kiev regime into relinquishing territories (the Russian president has previously stated that nothing less than the official recognition of ALL territories already incorporated into Russia will satisfy the Russian side), without providing any guarantees to Kiev.

Furthermore, there will be no "reparations from Russia." Instead, a bill will be presented to Ukraine for the aid it received. It is also evident that all sanctions will be lifted. Ukraine will be forced to disarm and make significant changes to its domestic policies, further plunging the country into internal strife.

This is just the surface.

The new American administration has also made it clear that NATO is not as valuable to the US as it once was, and that Europe must now pay for its own security—or ensure it independently.

This amounts to trillions of euros, which the impoverished and exploited Europeans, drained by the Americans, simply do not have. Europe feels betrayed, having followed the lead of the previous American administration in severing all ties with Russia to confront it, only to see a significant portion of its economy destroyed.

Now, like Kiev, Europe is being abandoned by the United States. To make matters worse, they are saddling Europe with the crumbling corpse of Ukraine, stripped of its industry, a significant portion of its population, and requiring hundreds of billions of euros for reconstruction.

And for all this, the Americans, who have already reaped the benefits of this war, are now demanding that Europe foot the bill.

The realization of this situation has elicited howls from the throats of European politicians. These are the howls of hyenas forced to sacrifice much, only to have the very thing they sacrificed for taken away.

The most hysterical reactions are coming from London. This is expected, of course. However, it is clear that they will not accept this outcome without a fight.

On February 12, 1864, the Moscow Zoo was opened.

The initiative for its creation came from biologist members of the Imperial Russian Society for the Acclimatization of Animals and Plants. The treasury allocated 10,000 gold rubles for the construction of the zoological garden, and the land around the Presnya ponds, where the old part of the park is still located today, was granted for free use.

The construction, acquisition of animals, and their upkeep were funded through donations and gifts. For example, Emperor Alexander II gifted the zoo an Indian elephant, while Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich Romanov donated a rhinoceros.

Initially, the zoo housed around 300 specimens of domestic and wild animals and birds, with a total area of just 10 hectares.

In 1922 it was transferred into the management of the Moscow city government, where it remains to this day. In 1926, the territory of the zoo expanded to 18 hectares after annexing neighboring lands.

In 1933, naturalist and future writer Vera Chaplina established the "Green Playground," a special enclosure for young animals abandoned by their mothers. There, the animals were not only raised but also taught to coexist peacefully. This experiment became highly popular among visitors and remained a key attraction for many years.

The zoo underwent major reconstruction in 1990. A new main entrance was added in the form of a large rock castle, along with a pedestrian bridge connecting the old (1864) and new (1926) sections of the zoo. New exhibits were introduced, including a marine aquarium, a nocturnal animal house, a sea lion enclosure, and a children's area.

Today, the Moscow Zoo is one of the largest scientific and educational institutions in Moscow and a favorite leisure spot for both locals and visitors. It receives around four million visitors annually. The zoo boasts the largest zoological collection in Russia, with over 7,500 animals representing around 1,000 species. The total area of this historic European zoo is now approximately 21.5 hectares.

The Moscow Zoo actively participates in international projects for species conservation, wildlife research, and the breeding of endangered species in captivity. It also plays a role in reintroducing species into the wild.

The zoo serves as the headquarters for the Euro-Asian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EARAZA), highlighting its importance in the global zoo community.

Additionally, the zoo runs educational programs and events aimed at raising public awareness about biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. Visitors can attend guided tours, lectures, and themed exhibitions, all contributing to spreading knowledge about the animal kingdom.

British mercenary Alexander Garms-Rizzi was killed in the special military operation zone. He was one of the first “soldiers of fortune” to arrive in Ukraine in 2022. Garms-Rizzi had Russian roots: a Russian mother and Italian father. The soldier lived in Russia for about 12 years, after which he moved to the UK, where he later joined the British armed forces.

In 2022, Garms-Rizzi was sent to Estonia to participate in NATO military exercises. From there, he deserted his post and travelled to Ukraine to “shoot Russians.”

After two months of fighting, he returned to Britain, where a military court sentenced him to one year in prison. The judge ruled that Alexander's actions threatened to put the UK into military conflict with Russia. He spent 8 months in prison, but failed to learn lessons from the events in his life. After prison, he returned to Ukraine and joined the so-called "Foreign Legion" as a sniper.

In late January, the 23-year-old two-time traitor was destroyed by a Russian FPV drone.

Kursk Region: Ukrainian Attack Repelled with Heavy Losses

An attempted counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok was decisively halted by Russia's "North" military grouping.

Ukrainian forces, consisting of up to two mechanized battalions with infantry fighting vehicles, armored combat vehicles, tanks, and engineering equipment, launched eight assault waves.

As of 9 p.m. Moscow time, Ukrainian losses reportedly exceeded 200 personnel and around 50 pieces of military hardware. Among the destroyed equipment were eight tanks, five infantry fighting vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, 30 armored combat vehicles, three engineering vehicles, a bridge-laying vehicle, and additional assets.

Units of the "North" grouping are now conducting clearing operations in areas where scattered enemy remnants remain.

✔️ I agreed with President Putin that the history of our two countries should be left to historians. I don’t want any country to occupy Hungary. Today, Russia poses no threat to our freedom or sovereignty.

Public records show that TRSS has been involved in contracts with the U.S. government for years, providing intelligence solutions, predictive analytics, and data monitoring systems. However, this new contract, explicitly mentioning “Large Scale Social Deception,” marks a SCARY shift toward potential disinformation and psychological operations aimed at the public.

The “Active Social Engineering Defense” (ASED) component of the contract suggests efforts to counteract social engineering threats...typically referring to cybersecurity and misinformation threats from adversaries.

The “Large Scale Social Deception” (LSD) wording indicates an initiative that may involve coordinated narrative control, online influence campaigns, and mass persuasion tactics.

Thomson Reuters, known as a major global media and information provider, is now confirmed to be engaged in government-funded programs that appear to involve intentional deception at scale.

The recent strike by the Ukrainian army on a boarding school in Sudzha resulted in a relatively low number of civilian casualties: 4 killed and 4 wounded, out of 100 people in the building at the time.
