Abu Mohammad al-Jolani and his Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) continue their war against Palestinian resistance in Syria, most recently exemplified by the abduction of Khaled Khaled and Yasser Al-Zufri, leaders of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). This is not an isolated incident but part of a systematic campaign since HTS took power in December 2024 with arms and funding from the US/Zionist Entity/Turkey/Gulf State regimes.
Jolani’s forces have dissolved the Syrian Palestinian Liberation Army (PLA), executed its members, disarmed factions like PFLP-GC and Fatah Al-Intifada, assaulted refugee camps, and forced resistance groups to flee to Lebanon.

They whitewashed Jolani’s crimes, presenting him as a revolutionary leader while serving as a U.S.-Zionist puppet. Now, as HTS dismantles Palestinian resistance, these same activists remain silent, complicit in their hypocrisy. Do not expect them to acknowledge their role or even mention Syria again. Their silence speaks volumes.

The fall of Syria as a sovereign state and the chaos engulfing the country are the direct results of an imperialist assault orchestrated by the United States, its European allies, and regional proxies—Israel, Turkey, and the Gulf monarchies. This was not about “democracy” or “freedom,” but about dismantling a key pillar of the Axis of Resistance—a coalition of states and movements opposing U.S.-led imperialism and Zionist dominance in West Asia.
The devastation in Syria is staggering. Entire cities have been reduced to rubble, and critical infrastructure—hospitals, schools, and water systems—has been destroyed. Over half the population has been displaced, creating one of the largest refugee crises in modern history. U.S.-led sanctions have compounded this destruction by crippling Syria’s economy, halting reconstruction, and plunging millions into poverty and food insecurity. These sanctions are a deliberate form of economic warfare, designed to suffocate Syria into submission.
The U.S. has further violated Syria’s sovereignty through its illegal occupation of nearly one-third of its territory, particularly the resource-rich northeast. Through proxies, the U.S. loots Syria’s oil, wheat, and resources essential for rebuilding the country. Syrian oil fields, which could fuel recovery, are plundered and sold on the black market. Syria’s wheat is also seized, worsening food shortages and pushing millions closer to starvation. This theft ensures the effects of U.S. imperialist policies are felt in every Syrian household.
Foreign forces beyond the U.S. also erode Syria’s sovereignty. Turkey occupies northern Syria, while Israel has expanded its illegal land grabs beyond the Golan Heights to seize Mount Hermon, the most strategic point in the Levant. The occupation of Mount Hermon gives Israel a critical military and intelligence advantage. Israeli airstrikes on Syrian soil have become routine, targeting infrastructure, military sites, and civilian areas with impunity. Meanwhile, extremist groups like Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), armed and supported by the U.S. and its allies, control portions of Syria, perpetuating instability and serving imperialist interests.
This chaos is no accident. It is the result of a deliberate strategy to weaken Syria, dismantle its sovereignty, and eliminate it as a key member of the Axis of Resistance. Syria’s alliances with Iran, Hezbollah, Ansar Allah, and Palestinian factions like Hamas and the PFLP have long made it a target for U.S.-led aggression. By dismantling Syria, the U.S. and Israel sought to sever Hezbollah’s supply lines, weaken Palestinian resistance, and fracture the Axis of Resistance. Yet, they have not succeeded.
The narrative of a Syrian “revolution” is a lie designed to obscure the imperialist nature of the war. The CIA’s Timber Sycamore program funneled billions into arming extremist militias, while Turkey served as a hub for foreign fighters. Western media glorified these groups as “freedom fighters,” but in reality, this proxy war aimed to destroy Syrian sovereignty under the guise of democracy.
Despite the fall of Syria as a sovereign state, the Axis of Resistance remains unbroken. Syria’s historic role as a supporter of Palestinian resistance is central to the broader struggle against U.S. imperialism and Zionist aggression. As anti-imperialists, we must expose the lies surrounding Syria’s destruction, resist the propaganda that justifies imperialism, and stand in solidarity with the Axis of Resistance in its fight for justice, sovereignty, and liberation.

Revolutionary care is community defense.
Last night, we came together in the South Bronx to learn life-saving skills with Narcan training and to build the foundations for a future without the carceral state. Together, we explored what it means to abolish systems of harm like police and prisons through community care and collective action.
We believe that supporting our people—whether through Narcan, jail support, or mutual aid—means resisting the capitalist and imperialist system that profits from our pain while building a revolutionary vision of care, solidarity, and liberation.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, donated, and took one more step toward dismantling the violent systems that oppress us.
