John 19:5~15 KJV
Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

Christ Offered Himself Without Blemish To God
From the beginning of the book of Hebrews, the Lord Jesus Christ is elevated above every prophet of God and all angelic beings. He is of greater importance than Moses the Law~giver, and Joshua, who led the children of Israel into the promised land. The Lord Jesus is far higher in rank and authority than Aaron the first high priest of Israel, and His ministry eclipses the Levitical priesthood.
And here in chapter 9, we read that Christ's offering of Himself is far superior to the Old Testament sacrifices, and cannot be compared with the ashes of a red heifer, or the blood of bulls and goats, which.. for a season, covered the sins of the nation, or which removed them temporarily from defilement ~ until that day when the perfect Lamb of God would come to earth, and take away the sin of the world.
In former times, an annual atonement was made for the sin of the nation, where the blood of animals covered the sin of the people for a single year. And yet through the sacrifice of His life, Christ Jesus obtained eternal redemption, the forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting for all who would believe in Him.
In the book of Numbers, we discover WHY the ashes of a red heifer were highly prized. They were used to remove a person's defilement, if they came in contact with a dead body. The young animal was slaughtered outside the camp, and its blood was sprinkled seven times in front of the tabernacle. Only then was the body of the red heifer burned to ashes.
The ashes were ceremoniously gathered up and carefully stored for multiple future cleansings. Only a tiny quantity of ash was required each time to cleanse the defiled Israelite, and the cherished cinders could last for many decades. Indeed, some sources say that only six such red heifers were required, during Israel's entire, pre~Cross history.
However, the extra~special cleansing effect of these special ashes, and the value that was placed upon them, cannot be compared with the efficacy of Christ's atoning blood, for we read, "if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh ~ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works, to serve the living God?"
Christ's offering of Himself was through the eternal Spirit. He willingly offered His life as the full ransom price for the sin of the world, through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit of God. In former times the animals, which were a type of Christ, had to be without physical imperfection ~ but for our sake, Christ lived and died without any moral blemish, for the glory of God and for our permanent and eternal salvation.
Our sins are not merely covered for a season nor are we only cleansed outwardly through His blood. We are cleansed inwardly and we are cleansed forever. Our hearts are made new. Our consciences are cleansed and purified by the shed blood of the perfect Lamb of God, and we are covered in Christ's righteousness, forever.
By faith, we are freed from slavery to sin, and delivered from a nagging need to carry out 'dead works' of the flesh, in an attempt to justify ourselves, cover our own confusion, cleanse ourselves from our own unrighteousness, and appease our sin~offended God. Rather, we are enabled to work the works of righteousness and do the good works of the spirit through the power of the Holy Spirit ~ good works which God Himself has prepared for all who have trusted Christ for the salvation of their soul.
May we never ever minimise the incredible sacrifice that Jesus made on our account, and the tremendous power that the blood of Christ has in the lives of all who trust in His redemptive work.
May we never diminish the inconceivable sacrifice the Lord Jesus gave, when He left His home in glory, made Himself a little lower than the angels on our account, and clothed Himself in mortal flesh, so that by the willing sacrifice of His sinless life..

He Is Risen!
It is a fact of history that Christ is risen from the dead. The four Gospel writers each gave eyewitness accounts of the Resurrection. They did not outline great theological arguments or seek to justify what they were saying with persuasive words. They simply reported facts that were observed by the various people who were there.
The pivotal Person in Scriptures is Christ and the crucial fact of Scripture is His Resurrection from the dead. The gospel of God stands or falls on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Christian faith is the only one that claims their Founder is risen from the dead and alive for evermore. Every other religion and all their founding fathers, or mothers, are dead and remain buried in their graves and their flesh is rotting away. Only Christians can rejoice that Jesus is alive for evermore. He IS risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
The birth of Christianity is a well~documented historical fact that is grounded in Holy Scripture. Its members believe in the historical Cross of Christ, and have placed their faith in the sacrifice that He made on that Cross, which saves people from their sins. There were literal blood stains on the wooden Cross upon which our Saviour hung.
The Cross of Christ was erected on a little hill called Calvary. John reported: "They took Jesus away and He went out of the city, carrying the Cross by Himself to a place called, The Place of the Skull." This place is also called 'Golgotha' in the Hebrew language and 'Calvary' in Latin, and it was outside the city gates of Jerusalem as prophesied of old.
When the women came early in the morning to anoint the body of Christ, they found that the stone was rolled away. The stone was not rolled away to let Christ come out. It was rolled back by the two men in white to allow the world to enter, to see the empty tomb, and to wonder at the precious truth that: "Christ is risen from the dead."
The devoted women need not have wondered how they were to remove the heavy stone that first Resurrection Sunday morning, for they were greeted with the joyful resurrection news: "He is not here! He has risen, just as He said He would. Come and see the place where He lay." The angel calmed the women's fear and proceeded to tell them the good news, reminding them that Jesus had already said He would rise from the dead on the third day.
The empty grave~clothes encrusted with a large quantity of embalming myrrh and aloes, gave witness to His glorious Resurrection. These faithful and devoted women who had sped eagerly to the tomb that resurrection morning, were encouraged to "come" and "see" the place He had lain, before being told to "go" and "tell" the other disciples that Jesus had risen from the dead and would meet with them in Galilee in the near future, just as He had already told them!
What a ripple of joy, wonder, reverence, and anticipation must have flooded the hearts of each of those faithful women who loved their Lord so deeply. Their long night of weeping and pain turned into a beautiful morning of joy and rejoicing. The sadness of these heart~sick women was translated into wonder and praise when they realised that Jesus was not there but risen from the dead.
There was a literal tomb where the body was placed, and there was an empty grave where Christ once laid. But now He is risen, ascended, and glorified, and He has the power to save to the uttermost all who come to Him in faith. Resurrection means to rise from the dead, never again to die. Death has no more dominion over Christ, and He is the firstborn from the dead, paving the way for the bodily resurrection and everlasting life for all who believe in Him by grace through faith.
It is His sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection in which we place our faith, and those who have trusted Christ as Saviour, have been given the indwelling Holy Spirit as God's guarantee that they will also receive a resurrection body. Let us have this confidence in Christ today, for His resurrection identified Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God.

“Are You The King Of The Jews?”
After Christ's illegal trial and unjust interrogation before Annas and Caiaphas, the high priest, Jesus was sent to the Praetorium, to be delivered to Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea and Samaria. The Jews' hatred of Christ was intense, and they desired His death, but being under Roman governance, they were denied the right of execution, as laid out in the Law of Moses.
When Pilate asked what crime Jesus had committed they could only reply, "If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you!!" They were basically saying that although Jesus committed no crime and there was no accusation against Him, He must be guilty of something because He was sent to Pilate to be sentenced.
History records that Pilate was a corrupt and cruel individual, who frequently offended people with his cruelty and outspoken attitude, but he was also a weak man, with a flawed character, and the Jews hoped to manipulate him into sentencing Jesus to death with no evidence of a crime.
The Bible records that Christ came as the King of the Jews to fulfil Scripture, and it was this title of 'King' that intrigued the governor... and so we read, "Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, 'Are You the King of the Jews?'" Pilate knew Jesus had been brought to him out of envy, and he sought to deliver Him from the hands of the Jews ~ not out of compassion, but as a slight to the Jewish leaders, who caused him much grief with their various uprisings and resistance to Roman rule.
Pilate was right to be curious about Christ's claims to be King of the Jews, for He was the Messiah, promised by God, Who would save His people from their sins. He was the eternal Son of God, Who came to earth as the sinless Son of Man. He was the Blessed Hope, Who came to redeem mankind from the tyranny of sin. Jesus was born King of the Jews at His birth in Bethlehem, and He was labelled King of the Jews at His crucifixion at Calvary ~ but as the prophesied Messiah and rightful King of Israel, Who was appointed by God, there was so much more than Pilate failed to understand.
He is the risen, ascended King of Righteousness and He is the coming Prince of Peace. He is God of all gods and is King of the Ages and Ruler of both heaven and earth. Jesus is the King of Glory and the God of Glory for He is the Lord God Almighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
Yet Jesus was led as a Lamb to the slaughter and stood silent before Pilate, bloodied and bruised, so that He could pay the price for OUR transgressions. He was ridiculed and despised to pay the cost of OUR iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon HIM, and with His stripes, WE are healed.
I wonder if Pilate ever truly came to understand Who this Man, standing before him was. I wonder if he ever discovered Who it was Who told him, "My kingdom is not of this world's system." I wonder if Pilate, who boasted "I have power to crucify You, and the power to release You", ever came to a saving knowledge of Jesus and discovered that He is the great Creator~King of the universe, and the One Who loves us so much that He died so that we might live ~ that Pilate might live ~ by faith in Him?
Jesus did not only come as the Passover Lamb for the Jews and the compulsory Sin Offering for the whole world, to fulfil the will of His Heavenly Father. Jesus also came as the sweet~smelling savour to the Lord, for He stretched out His arms to the cross willingly, so that He could give His life for love of the Church. For the joy that was set before Him, Jesus endured the cross. For our sake He despised the shame, and at this very moment, He is seated at the right hand of the Majesty of High, interceding for you and me. For He is the sovereign King of all and our heavenly Mediator.
He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the King of Peace Who is coming to smash and crush forever, the corrupt kingdoms of this world system, and restore righteousness and hope to a world that is drowning in sin.
