The calamity was as maddeningly overwhelming as one would expect to arise from an entire pirate party upturning the orderly routine of a morning execution. Diluc was by Kaeya's side in the matter of moments — those intensely charged with screams and bullets flying over their heads.
He was wearing Kaeya's captain hat. The sight made Kaeya's heart clench with an unfamiliar longing — he believed the hat had been lost for good, just as the ship, just as Diluc. Yet here he was, flaming anger and curls, barking commands through the mayhem of battle. They had quite a lot to catch up on.
"Could you please untie the noose?" Kaeya inquired politely. Would've cocked his head were it not for the precarious position he was in, about to fall any moment. Yet his heart was ready to fight its way out of his ribcage for entirely different reasons.
There was enough bad blood between them for Diluc to arrive at Kaeya's — indeed very timely — rescue and not proceed with the plan. That would be a very un-Diluc thing to do, but he did learn from Kaeya, and what a diligent learner he was!
Diluc didn't bother with the knots and singed the rope with expert precision — licks of fire never reached Kaeya's skin, and the noose fell down, now thankfully useless. Still Kaeya shivered at such a close contact with the pyro element.
Diluc dragged him from the dais, swiftly escaping the square and diving into a foul-smelling alleyway. "At least don't tell me we're going down the sewer," Kaeya gasped while still on the run.
Diluc could be merciless just like that. Judging from the shrieks and army trumpets outside, the sewer could be their best option at the moment. Kaeya gulped as Diluc jumped down and dragged him along.
