On this day in 2020, the UK Coronavirus Act came into force.
A 300+ page emergency act, rushed through Parliament in a single day, granting the UK government sweeping powers that reshaped our society overnight.
Under the guise of public health, this Act:
- Enabled mass detentions, including of "potentially infectious" individuals.
- Allowed cancellation of elections.
- Gave powers to close schools, borders, and businesses without Parliamentary approval.
- Suspended long-standing protections in mental health, social care, and community services.
- Paved the way for coercive medical interventions and the suppression of dissent.
All in the name of protecting public health—but at what cost?
This was the moment when the balance tipped—from representative democracy to government overreach, from civil liberties to state surveillance, from informed consent to coerced compliance.
Let us never forget how quickly checks and balances were thrown out.
And let us never allow it to happen again.

📉 Trump’s sweeping new tariffs
📉 Retaliation from China, the EU, UK, and Canada
📉 Global markets in freefall — over $10 trillion wiped out
📉 Oil dropping. Bitcoin slipping. Gold surging.

In 1930, a similar move — the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act — deepened the Great Depression and collapsed global trade.
“History may not repeat, but it definitely echoes.”
