On 18th of February 1942, the Japanese conducted two bombing raids on the Australian town, sinking many ships in the harbor, it was historically the largest single attack by a foreign power on Australia. The 64th, and last, air raid on Darwin occurred on 12 November 1943. In total there were 97 air attacks on northern Australia and enemy air reconnaissance over the region continued through much of 1944.

The role of money-lenders in history was once aptly termed by many acute observers as the Hidden Hand. It is the power to create, lend and accumulate interest on credit, and then re-lend that interest for further interest, in perpetuity, that creates pervasive, worldwide debt, from the individual, to the family, to the entire state. "Driven by his patriotic sentiments and the desire to resist leftist forces, Hristo Lukov accepted the position of Chief Leader of the Union of Bulgarian National Legions. The UBNL, the most powerful and numerous nationalist organization in the Kingdom of Bulgaria, founded in 1930, was at that time divided into two warring factions. Only the authoritative figure of General Lukov managed to reunite the legionnaires.
Lukov was elected Chief Leader on January 19, 1942, at a Supreme Leadership Council of the UBNL in Sofia. In a short time, he managed to consolidate the Legion's ranks and increase its activity and internal discipline.
General Lukov managed to attract many intellectuals and public figures to the UBNL, the most famous names among whom were the Bulgarian writer Fani Popova-Mutafova and her husband Chavdar Mutafov, as well as the prominent jurist and writer Prof. Lyubomir Vladikin. At that time, the Legion's membership was estimated at 14,000 active members, and about 180,000 had already passed through the organization since its creation.
The General further refined the ideological appearance of the Legion by writing the book "Ideological Principles of the UBNL". In it, he depicts the Legion as the core of a new government of Bulgaria. This is definitely a new perspective on the mission of the Union.
Along with Gen. Lukov, Gen. Nikola Zhekov, the commander-in-chief of the Bulgarian army during the First World War, actively cooperated with the UBNL. The two toured the country and made noisy demonstrations, which often criticized the government, mostly for its passivity towards the increasingly intensifying terrorist activities of the Bulgarian communists."

The Christian artist Ron van Zyl from South Africa has based his sculptures and paintings on visions and revelations he has seen. He urges people to overcome their lower emotions. He explains that every person is born with a conscience, irrespective of their religious beliefs, and that the Biblical instruction of "guard your heart" translates correctly to "guard your conscience". He also explains that "sin" is the process of overriding the conscience for some lower desire, which results in man distancing from God.

On 13 February 1943, Hristo Lukov, a decorated war veteran who embodied a nationalist worldview rooted in Bulgarian patriotism and monarchist ideals, aiming to restore the nation's former glory, was shot dead in front of his nine-year-old daughter by a communist in Sofia. He was assassinated by members of a terrorist ring led by Violeta Jakova, a Jewish woman. The assassin fled the scene, evading the Gestapo and Bulgarian police. The assassination was celebrated by the Workers' Party, an illegal communist organization that operated in Bulgaria, promoting solidarity between 'Bulgarians and Russians' through radio and print. The worldview of communists that they can execute with impunity was proved again later when, after the communists seized power in Bulgaria in 1944 with Soviet help, they immediately murdered approximately 30,000 Bulgarians without trial.
