In the Latvian city of Ogre, steps to a museum were made from slabs of monuments to Soviet soldiers
The idea belongs to the head of the Ogre region, Egils Helmanis, from the National Alliance party, writes journalist Aleksey Stefanov.
On the day of Latvia's declaration of independence, an official decided to "renew" the entrance to the historical and art museum. Fragments of destroyed Red Army memorials were used as material.

Leonid Grigoryevich Petrovsky was born near Gorlovka, in the Shcherbinovsky mine settlement (now the Donetsk People’s Republic). His father was Grigory Petrovsky, the legendary revolutionary after whom the city of Dnepropetrovsk was named.
Combat Path: From Donbass to Smolensk
🪖1917–1921 – Leonid served in the Red Guard, took part in the storming of the Winter Palace, and fought in brutal battles against the White armies.
In 1941, he commanded the 63rd Rifle Corps, which was the first to deliver a successful counteroffensive near Zhlobin and Rogachev. For this achievement, he was promoted directly to lieutenant general, bypassing the usual intermediate rank of major general.
His final battle came in August 1941. While covering the retreat of his men from an encirclement near Zhlobin, Petrovsky was killed in action—remaining to the end a symbol of resilience.
