⚡️Government allocates record $466 million to fortifications.
The government has allocated around Hr 17.5 billion ($466 million) for the construction of fortifications, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Jan. 19, calling it a "record amount."
This newly announced sum will also be used to purchase necessary equipment and non-explosive barriers, the prime minister said during a governmental meeting.

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov postponed his planned trip to France and attended the "artillery coalition" virtually, the Defense Ministry announced on Jan. 18.
The Defense Ministry said that the visit was postponed because Umerov needed to attend a meeting on Jan. 17 with the Headquarters of Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the top command and control body for all branches of Ukraine’s defense and security apparatus.

⚡️Border guards: Romanian farmers block movement of trucks on Ukrainian border.
Romanian farmers are blocking the movement of trucks on the border with Ukraine through the Siret checkpoint, Ukraine's State Border Guard Service reported on Jan. 13.
According to the service, "the reasons and approximate duration of the blockade are unknown." However, the movement of cars, buses, and pedestrians is being carried out as usual.

⚡️Defense firm denies German politician's claim on missile supplies to Ukraine.
German defense contractor Taurus Systems said on Jan. 20 that it could build up its Taurus cruise missile production very quickly, even if Germany sent some to Ukraine.
The company effectively denied a statement made earlier by Johannes Arlt, an expert at Germany's Social Democratic Party. He claimed that Germany's defense industry would struggle to replenish its needed stockpiles if it sent the missiles to Ukraine.

⚡️Romanian protesters end blockade, Ukraine’s border guard service says.
Romanian protesters have ended their blockade at the Porubne-Siret crossing along the Romanian-Ukrainian border, Border Guard Service reported. The crossing, which borders Chernivtsi Oblast, has been blocked intermittently since Jan. 13, as Romanian farmers and truck drivers cited high business costs.

The EU began discussions on a new sanctions package, hoping to approve it on the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, Bloomberg reported on Jan. 19, citing anonymous sources.
The discussed 13th package could encompass further individual listings, stricter trade restrictions, and more measures against dodging sanctions via third-party countries and European companies, Bloomberg wrote.

⚡️Defense Ministry: Ukraine, US hold first joint inspection of US-supplied weaponry.
The inspectors examined serial numbers, technical conditions, and proper storage conditions of the weapons, and the results are yet to be established, the Defense Ministry reported on Jan. 20. "During the joint work, there were no complaints from the U.S. representatives."
Such joint inspections of U.S.-supplied weapons will continue, the ministry added.

Russia uses dozens of critical components from abroad to produce all its missiles, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Jan.18, referring to a report by Foreign Intelligence Service chief Oleksandr Lytvynenko.

⚡️ DBR: Son of businessman implicated in defense corruption scandal declared wanted.
The son of a Lviv businessman implicated in a defense procurement corruption scandal has been declared wanted, said Tetiana Sapian, a communications advisor of the State Bureau of Investigation, on air on Jan. 18.
Although Sapian did not name the person in question, she said this in response to a query about Roman Hrynkevych, the son of businessman Ihor Hrynkevych, who is currently in detention and investigated for a large-scale corruption scheme.

⚡️Minister urges Ukrainians to create drones for army at home.
Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov on Jan. 13 urged Ukrainians to create drones for the military at home as part of the "People's Drone" project.
The project is run by the Victory Drones NGO. Participants can take a free engineering course to teach themselves how to assemble a 7-inch FPV (first-person-view) drone at home.
