🇷🇺 On the Great Victory Day, diplomats of the Russian Consulate General in Edinburgh laid a wreath and flowers at the memorial in Dundee in memory of the crew of the Soviet submarine B-1, commanded by the Hero of the Soviet Union, captain 2nd rank I.Fisanovich, who tragically lost their lives on the way from Scotland in 1944.
We are grateful to all our compatriots and Scottish people who honoured the memory of Soviet soldiers these days.

Дорогие соотечественники!
80-летие Победы в Великой Отечественной войне не просто памятная дата. Это символ несгибаемой воли и единства наших народов в борьбе с нацистскими полчищами.
🎗 9 мая для нас – день гордости и скорби. Мы склоняем головы в память о героическом подвиге тех, кто самоотверженно сражался за спасение цивилизации от «коричневой чумы».
Советский народ заплатил за Победу страшную цену – десятки миллионов прерванных жизней, разрушенные города, искалеченные судьбы. Три первых и самых кровопролитных года войны СССР выстоял практически один в сражении с германской военной машиной, которую поддерживала бóльшая часть Европы. Судьба человечества во многом решалась в тяжелейших сражениях под Москвой и Ленинградом, в Сталинграде и на Курской дуге, в боях за Кавказ и Крым.
Россия никогда не принижала значение второго фронта и вклада союзников в Победу. Мы с благодарностью и уважением вспоминаем героизм британских солдат и воинов других стран антигитлеровской коалиции. Ценим важную помощь, которую получал наш народ, в том числе благодаря Северным конвоям.
Символично, что сегодня я обращаюсь к вам из резиденции, где в годы войны работал Иван Михайлович Майский, Посол СССР в Великобритании. Именно здесь, в этих стенах, в период жесточайших испытаний формировались основы союзнического взаимодействия Москвы и Лондона в годы Второй мировой войны. Майский имел прямой личный контакт с Уинстоном Черчиллем. Тогда их доверительный диалог способствовал становлению антигитлеровской коалиции.
К сожалению, сегодня на Западе – под влиянием политической конъюнктуры и русофобских тенденций – всё чаще предпринимаются грубые попытки пересмотреть историю, замолчать важные факты, затушевать или принизить ключевую роль Красной армии в освобождении Европы. Хуже того, восхваление и поддержку получают те, кто, как киевский режим, не скрывают своей идеологической связи с подельниками нацистов. Всё это не только недопустимо, но и чрезвычайно опасно. Забывая уроки прошлого, человечество рискует вновь столкнуться с катастрофой.
☝️ Поэтому мы несём главную ответственность за то, чтобы хранить правду о той войне и передавать эти знания будущим поколениям. Чтобы каждый ребёнок знал и понимал, почему 9 мая — не просто дата в календаре, но день, навсегда изменивший наш мир, ставший неотъемлемой частью нашей идентичности и одновременно нашим нравственным камертоном.
Уверен, что многочисленные торжественные мероприятия и памятные акции, которые уже состоялись или ещё пройдут на территории Соединённого Королевства по случаю Дня Победы, будут способствовать сохранению исторической правды, а также сплочению российской диаспоры. Посольство, со своей стороны, продолжит делать всё необходимое для поддержки соотечественников, разделяющих любовь к нашей Родине.

Russia has already granted over 800 temporary residence permits (RVP) to foreigners who share Russia’s traditional values, the Interior Ministry has announced.
Most applicants are from Germany, Latvia, the U.S., Italy, France, the UK, Estonia, Canada and Lithuania, often choosing regions in and around Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar.

This historic document marked the Soviet Union’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War, brought an end to #WWII in Europe, signalled the final collapse of Nazism.

Earlier, on May 2, 1945, following the fall of the Reichstag — the main Nazi stronghold — and the surrender of the Berlin garrison, the Red Army completed its successful operation to capture Berlin. The Soviet forces crushed Nazi resistance, taking full control of the Nazi government headquarters, including Hitler's Reichskanzlei (Reich Chancellery) and bunker.
Germany’s final & unconditional surrender to the Allies was preceded by several local capitulations of the Nazi troops along various fronts. Moreover, in April 1945, certain Nazi military leaders, who were aware that the Third Reich’s collapse was imminent, fearing justice for their crimes, sought secret talks with Anglo-American forces, trying to divide the Allied anti-Hitler coalition.
On April 29, just before the surrender of the Berlin garrison, the Nazi troops surrendered in Italy. Days later, on May 4, the Wehrmacht capitulated in the Netherlands, Denmark, Schleswig-Holstein, and Northwest Germany. On May 5, German troops also laid down their arms in Western Austria.
👉 Desperate to surrender to the British-American forces, on May 5, the Nazi delegation arrived in the French city of Reims, where the headquarters of the Allies' command was located. There, on May 7, the Act of Military Surrender was signed. Article 4 of the document did not rule out the signing of another, definitive act: “This act of military surrender… will be superseded by any general instrument of surrender… applicable to Germany and the German armed forces as a whole.”
Due to that, the Soviet leadership deemed the Reims document only as a preliminary instrument, believing that the official surrender of the Nazis had to be ensured in Berlin, the city where the Nazi aggression originated from.
At the Soviet government’s request, a second and final ceremony of surrender took place.

The surrender was accepted by Marshal Georgy Zhukov on behalf of the Soviet Union and Deputy Commander of the Allied forces Marshal Arthur Tedder on behalf of the Western Allies. From the German side, the Instrument was signed by Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel, Colonel General Hans-Jurgen Stumpff, & Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg.
With the Instrument being signed, the Nazi government was officially dissolved, the defeated German military laid down arms.

On May 9, 1945, at 2:10 am Moscow time, announcer Yury Levitan read out the Instrument of Unconditional Surrender of Nazi Germany & the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR declaring May 9 Victory Day. From that moment forward, the Soviet Union and later Russia, as well as the most former Soviet republics have celebrated Victory Day on May 9.

💬 "The peoples of the Soviet Union not only defeated the Wehrmacht, but also brought life, liberation and salvation to the peoples of Eastern and Central Europe.
The Red Army, the Soviet soldiers literally stopped the Nazi extermination machine in its tracks and put out the crematoria of the Holocaust. Those who deny this are clearly supporting the resurgence of Nazism and the rise of neo-Nazism".

🇷🇺 В День Великой Победы дипломаты Генерального консульства России в Эдинбурге возложили венок и цветы к мемориалу, установленному в г.Данди в память о трагически погибшем при переходе из Шотландии в СССР в 1944 году экипаже советской подводной лодки В-1 под командованием Героя Советского Союза капитана второго ранга И.И.Фисановича.

In Scotland there are memorial sites dedicated to Soviet soldiers who fought against fascism, as well as cooperation between the USSR and Great Britain in 1941-1945:
- a memorial in Dundee dedicated to the crew of the Soviet submarine B-1 under command of the Hero of the Soviet Union I.Fisanovich;
- a monument to the participants of the Arctic Convoys on the shore of Scapa Flow Bay (Lyness, Orkney Islands);
- a monument to the participants of the Arctic Convoys on Cape Cove on the shore of Loch Ewe;
- a memorial stone in honour of Soviet pilots of the Moscow Special Purpose Aviation Group in Errol;
- a memorial plaque dedicated to Soviet pilots of the Moscow Special Purpose Aviation Group, at the former RAF airfield near Errol;
- a stone erected in memory of the fallen Soviet pilots in the village of Fearnan.
The first four memorials are open to public. We invite everyone who would like to honour the memory of the soldiers that made our Victory possible 80 years ago, to visit the monuments.
