What is Tawḥīd? (The Foundation of Islam)

Tawḥīd is the very first command in the Qur’ān. It is the reason we were created. It is the call of every Prophet.

"Worship Allāh and do not associate anything with Him."

(Qur’ān – Sūrah al-Nisāʾ 4:36)

But what exactly is Tawḥīd? Scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah divide it into three categories – all rooted in the Qur’ān and Sunnah:

Tawḥīd al-Rubūbiyyah
• Allāh alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Controller.

Tawḥīd al-Ulūhiyyah
• Allāh alone deserves worship: duʿā, prayer, slaughter, fear, etc.

Tawḥīd al-Asmāʾ wa-Ṣifāt
• Allāh’s Names and Attributes are unique and perfect. We affirm them without distortion or denial.

This is the foundation of our faith. Whoever perfects Tawḥīd will find Jannah easy. Whoever corrupts it with shirk – no good deed can save him.

May Allāh make us people of pure Tawḥīd.

🕌 Important Clarification Regarding Our Page and Its Manhaj 🕌

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

All praise is due to Allāh, Lord of the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, his family, his companions, and those who follow them in goodness until the Day of Judgment.

We would like to make a clear and important announcement regarding the direction and beliefs represented on this page.

This page does not support, promote, or sympathize with any extremist groups or terrorist organizations, whether they operate under religious slogans or political motives. We completely disavow all forms of takfīrī, khārijī, or deviant ideologies that go against the Qur’ān, Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ.

🔹 The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever introduces into this matter of ours (i.e. Islam) that which is not from it, it is rejected.”
(Saḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim)

🔹 Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:


“The Khawārij are the first to declare the Muslims disbelievers due to sins and they fought the Jamā‘ah due to that.”


🔹 Our Manhaj is based upon the understanding of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ: the Companions, the Tābiʿīn, and those who followed them with precision – including great scholars such as Imām Aḥmad, Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, and in recent times:
Shaykh Ibn Bāz, Shaykh al-Albānī, Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn, Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān, Shaykh Rabīʿ al-Madkhalī, Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī, and others.

We strive to promote:

✅ Pure Tawḥīd
✅ The correct Salafi ʿAqīdah
✅ Respect for the Muslim rulers and scholars
✅ Rejection of bidʿah (innovations)
✅ Warning against Khawārij, Takfīrīs, Ikhwān al-Muslimīn, Ḥizbiyyah, and extremist activism

❗️We ask all brothers and sisters to fear Allāh, hold fast to the Jamā‘ah and the Sunnah, and avoid emotional reactions or misguided zeal that leads to chaos and destruction in the name of Islām.

All praise is due to Allāh, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allāh, his family, companions, and all those who follow them in righteousness.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Now that we have clarified our stance regarding extremist ideologies, we want to begin a short series on this page to educate and remind ourselves and our audience of the correct Salafi Manhaj regarding ʿAqīdah, Jihād, Takfīr, and rectification (iṣlāḥ).

🔹 What is Salafiyyah?
Salafiyyah is not a group, sect, or political movement. It is Islām in its purest form – based on the Qur’ān, Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ (the righteous predecessors).

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:


“There is no blame upon the one who openly declares his affiliation with the Salaf, attributes himself to them, and ascribes this to himself. Rather, it is obligatory to accept that from him, because the madhhab of the Salaf is nothing but the truth.”
(Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā 4/149)


Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān حفظه الله said:


“The Salafi manhaj is the manhaj of truth – it is the manhaj of the Book and the Sunnah. As for what the people claim today, like so-and-so is Salafi but he opposes the Salafi principles – this is false attribution.”


🔹 Our Stance on Takfīr & Extremism
We must warn against the disease of unjust takfīr – declaring Muslims as disbelievers without clear evidence.

🔸 The Prophet ﷺ said:


“Whoever says to his brother: O Kāfir – then it returns upon one of them.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)


The Khawārij, who were the first extremists in Islām, made takfīr on major sins and fought the Muslim rulers and society, believing it to be jihād.

Shaykh al-Albānī رحمه الله said:


“There is no doubt that those who hold these extremist views—like ISIS or those like them—are from the modern-day Khawārij. Their bloodshed, revolutions, and takfīr are not based on Qur'ān or Sunnah, but upon ignorance and desires.”


Shaykh Rabīʿ al-Madkhalī حفظه الله said:


“The root of all trials and tribulations in the Ummah are the Khawārij. They wore the dress of religion, but they are the people of bloodshed, rebellion, and extremism.”


🔹 The Correct Understanding of Jihād
We do not reject jihād in Islām, but we must understand it as the Salaf understood it – under the banner of the Muslim ruler, with proper conditions and goals. Not the modern chaos seen in today’s movements.

Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said:


“Jihād must be under a Muslim ruler, with strength, preparation, and proper strategy. Launching attacks without leadership or wisdom is not jihād but destruction.”
(Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn)


Modern extremist groups like ISIS, al-Qāʿidah, HT (Ḥizb al-Taḥrīr), and Ikhwān al-Muslimīn (Muslim Brotherhood) distort this noble concept. Instead of reviving the Ummah, they have divided it, shed innocent blood, and portrayed Islām as violent.

We ask Allāh for protection from their evil.

🏴🇸🇴❌🇸🇴 — Fighting intensified today in the Middle Shabelle and Hiraan regions of central Somalia, major points:

➡️ For the 2nd consecutive day, SNA forces and Danab special forces attempted to take over Aboorey, leading to high casualties among both pro-government elements and al-Shabaab, the militants however remain in control of the settlement

➡️ Government forces also counter-attacked on the Geel Gub direction, which led to the killing of 22 soldiers and the injury of 21 others, the rest of the soldiers retreated back to Xaaji Cali.

➡️Al-Shabaab advanced towards Adan Yabaal, a symbolic and strategic stronghold in the region, but were mostly fighting on the outskirts of the city, 4 soldiers were killed and 8 others injured, the group in turn shelled the government bases in the city.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

All praise is due to Allāh, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allāh, his family, companions, and all those who follow them in goodness.

Continuing our clarification series, today we address another key issue: the correct Salafi stance toward rulers, the importance of the Jamāʿah, and why revolutions and protests are not from the Sunnah, even if they seem appealing to the emotions.


🔹 Obedience to the Muslim Rulers – Even if They Are Oppressive
The Salafi manhaj is built on listening and obeying the Muslim rulers, as long as they do not command clear disobedience to Allāh.

🔸 The Prophet ﷺ said:


"Hear and obey the ruler, even if he strikes your back and takes your wealth. Hear and obey."
(Sahih Muslim)


This ḥadīth applies to Muslim rulers who establish the prayer and rule with Islām, even if they have oppression or shortcomings.

🔹 Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:


“Sixty years under an oppressive ruler is better than one night without a ruler.”


🔹 Shaykh Ibn Bāz رحمه الله:


“It is obligatory to obey the rulers in what is good, and to advise them with wisdom and good manners. Rebellion and protests only bring destruction.”


🔹 Shaykh al-Fawzān حفظه الله said:


“Some people say: ‘We must speak against the rulers publicly!’ We say: This is the manhaj of the Khawārij, not the manhaj of the Salaf.”



🔹 The Importance of the Jamāʿah
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized sticking to the united body of Muslims, especially during fitan (tribulations).


“Whoever separates himself from the Jamāʿah by even a handspan and dies, dies the death of Jāhiliyyah.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim)


The Salaf emphasized unity upon the truth, even if there are mistakes among the leaders. Unity protects the blood of Muslims and prevents chaos and civil war.

🔹 Imām al-Barbahārī رحمه الله said:


“If you see a man supplicating against the ruler, know that he is upon innovation. And if you see a man supplicating for the ruler, know that he is upon the Sunnah.”
(Sharḥ al-Sunnah)



🔹 The Danger of Revolutions, Protests, and Uprisings
Modern-day groups like the Ikhwān al-Muslimīn, Hizb al-Taḥrīr, and others promote protests, democracy, and revolutions as paths of change.

But the Salafi scholars have consistently warned against these methods.

🔸 Shaykh Rabīʿ al-Madkhalī حفظه الله said:


“Every revolution has brought destruction. What have the Arab Spring protests brought except blood, tears, and division? This is not from Islām.”


🔸 Shaykh al-Albānī رحمه الله said:


“Demonstrations are a foreign concept. They came from the disbelievers. We do not have protests in the Sunnah or from the Salaf. We have advice, patience, and duʿā.”


🔸 Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī حفظه الله:


“The path of reform is through knowledge, teaching, and advice – not revolutions or politics. That is the way of the misguided Ḥizbiyyīn (partisans).”



⚠️ A Final Reminder
Rebellion, public incitement, and revolutions do not fix a society – they destroy it. Look at the countries affected by uprisings: they are in greater turmoil and bloodshed than before.

🔹 Real rectification comes through:

✅ Correct ʿAqīdah
✅ Seeking knowledge
✅ Teaching the people
✅ Patience with trials
✅ Sincere duʿā for the rulers

May Allāh guide us to the straight path and protect us from the paths of misguidance and destruction.
