//BLUF: INDIA/PAKISTAN SPAT REMAINS SHORT OF FULL-BLOWN WAR, SITUATION TENUOUS REGARDLESS. USS TRUMAN LOSES ANOTHER AIRCRAFT OVERBOARD. STRATEGIC BUILDUP AT DIEGO GARCIA CONTINUES.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

India/Pakistan: Though an all-out war has not yet begun, tensions remain high following yesterday's missile strikes. Examination of various debris fields does confirm that several Indian aircraft were shot down, including what looks to be the first combat loss of a Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft. However the total number of platforms lost overnight remains unclear.

AC: For the moment, Pakistan has not conducted their counterattack yet, all of last-night's activities were knee-jerk defensive moves and not a deliberately planned counteroffensive.

Red Sea/HOA: Yesterday President Trump announced a cessation of hostilities against the Houthi government due to the Houthis ceasing their targeting of commercial shipping. A few hours after this announcement, a Houthi spokesman stated that this is not true, and that the war is still on as before.

In the Red Sea, the USS HARRY S TRUMAN suffered another aviation mishap, which involved the loss of another F/A-18 due to a failure of arresting gear during flight operations. Due to this failure, the pilot and weapons officer both ejected from the aircraft as it fell off of the flight deck.

AC: Despite the PR disaster of losing two aircraft to mishaps within 7 days, these types of events happen fairly often. Arresting cables snap all the time, and sometimes there isn't enough airspeed left to successfully abort the landing and take off again. Aviation operations onboard an aircraft carrier are a risky business, and the increase in mishaps is often directly related to an increase in optempo. Regardless, the loss of a total of three aircraft, which are bombing a country that does not have any air force whatsoever, is not entirely a good look.

Indian Ocean: The strategic buildup of bomber aircraft continues as 2x B-52 Stratofortress aircraft have forward deployed to Diego Garcia to supplement the 6x B2 Spirit stealth bombers already on the island. Two more B-52's have been observed by plane watchers heading toward the island as well, which would bring the total of B-52's to 4x.

AC: The continual forward deployment of strategic resources to this island continues to present indications and warnings of a major military campaign. Additionally, this deployment highlights discrepancies with the rhetoric involving war with Iran.

Russia: This afternoon Moscow's airspace was closed due to a mass Ukrainian drone attack. This was the first much anticipated drone attack that was expected to take place during Russia's celebration of Victory Day (and the festivities and parades taking place around May 9th). Russia's MoD states that 524x Ukrainian drones have been shot down over the past 24 hours.

AC: These numbers obviously can't be independently confirmed, but it sounds about right. Ukraine, having shown obviously no interest in participating in a ceasefire, is heavily invested in doubling down to make a show during Victory Day events and parades. This is not only because a lot of functional military hardware is already staged in Moscow, but also because a lot of foreign dignitaries are visiting. China's Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow this morning, and his presence alone raises the stakes of the war on both sides. Over the next 24-48 hours, Russia will be very concerned with defending the airspace of her capital city...and Ukraine will be very motivated to target it.

 -HomeFront-

U.S.A. - Around the nation the REAL ID Act went into effect today. This means that only certain types of identification documents will be accepted by TSA for travel by air.

AC: If you are planning any aviation travel this week, it might be a good idea to get in the TSA line early and expect delays (or in many cases, minor fistfights) from travelers who are unaware of the ID requirements to fly.

Indiana: This morning a man was shot after drawing a firearm on police officers attempting to carry out an inmate transfer at the Hendricks County Courthouse. Two officers opened fire on the man, killing him at the scene.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: The incident in Indiana could be another revenge killing attempt, though possibly for very different reasons. Local media is running the story that the would-be shooter was the great-grandfather of two children who were killed during a police chase back in February. Regarding that earlier case, S'Doni Pettis was spotted driving a stolen vehicle by police, and decided to engage in a high-speed chase with two infants in the vehicle with him. The chase ended when Pettis crashed into another vehicle, killing one of the infants and critically wounding the other. Pettis was on probation at the time after a sweetheart plea deal allowed him to remain a free man earlier than usual instead of being in prison on charges of attempted murder (charges which were reduced as part of the plea deal).

Returning to the incident that occurred this morning, Pettis was scheduled to be in court today, facing a hearing regarding that earlier incident involving the children. Therefore it's possible that a family member of those two children was attempting to kill him as retribution for Pettis' actions. On the other hand, it's also possible that the suspect's family member was trying to spring him from custody as be was being brought into court. At the moment, it's impossible to determine what actually happened. A random person pointing a gun at police during an inmate transfer is not the time or place to undertake a calm debate to determine causation. After the incident is over, not much detail is expected to be released either; even though it would be helpful from a risk management perspective to know what the true cause of this shooting was, authorities don't want to encourage vigilantism in any way, regardless of the context.

In the Middle East, the claims of Israel taking over Gaza completely have been made many times before, but this time the plans have become more solidified as the Cabinet has allegedly publicly voted on such now. Israel has also completely invaded Gaza in the past, however this time the openly-stated goal is to totally displace the entire surviving non-Israeli population from the region completely. This is a much different tone than Israel occupying Gaza and allowing the Palestinian population to remain, as they have done periodically in the past.

In a larger sense, the elephant in the room is the bigger issue, but in practical terms this move will probably have many different impacts in very short order. Houthi attacks will increase as a knee-jerk reaction to this announcement, and the conflict in Syria will probably escalate as that war is largely a proxy space for settling many different issues. The Iranians probably won't do anything at all; if they haven't really done anything regarding the plight of those in Gaza earlier (when the regular and indiscriminate targeting of civilian centers was at it's height), it's very unlikely they will do anything at this point either. Hezbollah to the north in Lebanon likewise probably won't do much, but some indirect-fire in the form of rocket attacks may take place over the next few days. It's been a comparatively long time since any significant rocket attacks were seen originating from Lebanon, but if there were ever an occasion to see an increase in these attacks, now would be the time.

//BLUF: UKRAINE SIGNS MINERAL DEAL WITH USA. NSA MIKE WALZ AND DEPUTY FIRED.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

Europe: Yesterday afternoon the White House announced that the United States and Ukraine have signed the previously mentioned mineral deal.

 -HomeFront-

Washington D.C. - This morning National Security Advisor Mike Walz and Deputy advisor Alex Wong have resigned from their positions for their roles in the recent scandal involving the editor of The Atlantic being added to a secret group chat on Signal. This afternoon, President Trump announced that Mike Walz is to become the US Ambassador to the United Nations.

AC: No word yet on who will be Walz's replacement though Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has been speculated to be in the running for the role by various commentators.

USA: Around the nation, various May Day protests and demonstrations were carried out in most major US cities, with varying levels of turnout. Continuing tradition, the largest demonstration was conducted on the National Mall, with thousands of protesters engaging in the traditionally anti-Capitalist protest actions customary of the holiday.

AC: Most of these protests remained relatively docile (by historical comparison), though in Europe several riots were reported (such as in Paris, again continuing tradition). In the United States however, turnout was rather low compared to years past. A few thousand people rallied on the National Mall, and a few hundred/thousand showed up to hear Bernie Sanders speak in Vermont, but that was more or less the highlight of today's May Day events.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: The details of the mineral deal signed by the USA and Ukraine have not been released. However, this is unlikely to matter much in the long run. The mineral deal was never really that much of a serious effort anyway, and was really just an attempt by the United States to financially recoup some of the heavy costs of funding this war. As such, the specific details of the deal probably don't matter as much as one might imagine; the United States will take what they can get, which will without question be less than what Ukraine has to offer. What's far more important is that this deal signals an end to the recent spat between Trump and Zelenskyy, which is a necessary first step towards a peace agreement being put on the table at some point.

The next most likely theory that is circulating at the moment is that the outage was caused by multiple independent cyberattacks on the core communications functions of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-e). At the moment there's no evidence available to the public that can confirm this for the time being. It also must be noted that almost two weeks ago, Spanish grid operator Red Electrica reached a milestone regarding their renewable energy sector. On April 16, the grid operator claimed that the Spanish electrical grid ran fully on solar, wind, and hydro power for the first time in history. This highlights the recent substantial efforts to further allegedly "carbon-neutral" standards and goals...efforts which in the wake of last month's outage at Heathrow Airport are drawing scrutiny. Of course, not every power outage can be blamed on one single root cause; there are usually long chains of causation for events like this. However, the recent major changes throughout the continent, among all sectors of energy production, certainly will be under major scrutiny as Europe's energy crisis at large starts to impact the average citizen more directly than it has in the past.

In Canada, local authorities claim that the attack in Vancouver was not terrorism, however eyewitness statements overwhelmingly confirm this was an intentional terrorist attack. Locals reported the assailant deliberately waited for the event to draw to a close before conducting the attack. He waited until the traffic barriers were being removed as the event was winding down, at which point he threated his vehicle through the barriers that were being removed, to intentionally target the crowd that still remained. After the attack, the assailant exited his vehicle and was confronted/detained by those at the event.

While it would be wise to confirm the details of the investigation into this event, enough information has been conveyed by event-goers to fill in the gaps with regards to risk assessment. In this case, it seems as though another mass-casualty event has taken place that would have been preventable had complacency not been a major contributing factor. Reports vary on the status of anti-vehicle barricades for this event. Some state that there were no barricades at all, but rather standard traffic cones which were used for traffic control purposes, while others claim the limited barriers that were emplaced were not sufficient in either traffic control or in preventing the attack itself.

Whatever the barrier situation was at the time of the incident, clearly it was not sufficient either in deterring or stopping a major terror attack. Instead of waiting for crowds to disperse fully, traffic barriers being removed before the event was fully over was also likely a factor in attack planning. Much like previous incidents, the proximity to risk is a huge factor many people do not realize. Many people will evacuate a building that's on fire...only to stand 4 feet from the door. Or even more commonly, sprint out of the building just to immediately stop in the doorway, blocking the egress of those behind them.

//BLUF: RHETORIC ESCALATES BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN. ANOTHER OUTAGE STRIKES NEWARK AIRPORT, CAUSING GROUND STOP.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

India/Pakistan: Various skirmishes along the border continue as before. This afternoon rhetoric surrounding the current conflict has escalated following a spokesman for the Pakistani Armed Forces stating that Pakistan is at war with India.

AC: Pakistan routinely makes statements like this, so even a direct declaration of war from a government official doesn't carry as much weight as one might think. However, it's hard to top an official declaration of war as far as rhetoric goes. Whether or not Pakistan will follow through on this rhetoric is unknown. Some reports state that Pakistan has already begun their counterattack, others state it hasn't happened yet. Either way, this morning Pakistan's official governmental social media account posted fake footage from the Arma 3 video game, implying it was shootdown footage of one of India's aircraft, so sources on what is actually happening are fairly warped on all sides.

 -HomeFront-

New Jersey: Another outage struck the tower at Newark Airport, which caused all of the screens in the air traffic control center to go dark for about 90 seconds. An emergency ground stop was issued for all aircraft at the airport while the issue was being resolved.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: The incidents in the tower at Newark airport continue to remain concerning. A total loss of systems, even if for just a few minutes, is a major problem in one of the busiest air traffic control sectors in the world. At this point, multiple total failures of systems is a national security issue. Whether or not it's an issue of incompetence on the part of staff members is a concern as well, but when a major aviation hub routinely has total losses of systems, this is a bigger issue than one might imagine.

//PRIORITY//
//BLUF: INDIA CONDUCTS MISSILE STRIKES IN PAKISTAN.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

India: This afternoon India carried out multiple missile strikes in eastern Pakistan. India announced the launch and subsequent completion of "Operation Sindoor", which involved 9x missile strikes at varying sites throughout eastern Pakistan. Most of these strike locations are comparatively remote sites right along the border.

Pakistan: Officials have claimed to have shot down at total of 5x Indian military aircraft (including two fighters and one helicopter), though this remains unconfirmed at this time. Shortly after the airstrikes, Pakistan announced their counterattack had begun. Pakistani officials/sources claimed that around a dozen sites were struck by Pakistani aircraft in Kashmir. Again, this remains largely unconfirmed.

Artillery units in the border regions of both nations have begun various bombardment efforts, with locals reporting significant explosions throughout the region, though without any hard evidence to indicate how successful these cross border fires are.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: Reports are numerous, but many are contradictory or otherwise unreliable. Right now (and as with any similar crisis) the word "confirmed" is being thrown around without much consideration for what confirmation of an event actually means. At least 90% of the content on social media right now is fake and/or old footage of conflicts not even in India or Pakistan, so the manipulation of the information space is exceptionally high at the moment.

In about an hour the sun will be up, and a more reliable Battle Damage Assessment can be conducted. Right now it's still dark throughout the region, so daylight will provide much more evidence of whatever aircraft were shot down, if any. It is possible that what appeared to be an aircraft shootdown incident to locals on the ground, was actually Pakistan shooting down unmanned reconnaissance drones. These are exceptionally easy to shoot down, and at night would look very similar to untrained civilians who didn't get close to the various debris fields.

India claims to have only struck "terrorist" camps, and not specifically Pakistani military sites. If true, this is probably to avoid too much escalation since India very well knows that Pakistan will be forced to respond in kind, even if it's just to save face. Of note, Pakistani sources refute this claim and state that Pakistani military sites were hit, though which ones remains unclear at the moment. It is a bit of a stretch, but it's possible that an old outpost at the Muzaffarabad Airport was hit, which could mean that both sides are partially correct. Old, defunct military outposts are frequently occupied by everyone from local street vendors to insurgent groups in this part of the world, so this will probably add to the confusion as to what targets India actually struck.

Considering that India immediately announced their entire plan seconds after the strikes hit, India probably isn't looking for the global thermonuclear war that many people are expecting. Pakistan is not looking for such a conflict either, and though they will have to retaliate in kind, how this retaliation manifests will be an indication of how concerned to be. If India's actions were a one-and-done strike, and Pakistan responds with a similar one-and-done strike, tensions may ease a bit. If not, this may become a rather concerning and serious event.

More strategically however, the overall concerns remain rather important in the context of two nuclear powers engaging each other in a land war in Asia. The concern is not necessarily that one nation will pull the pin and conduct a nuclear first strike...the main concern is that one of these parties may accidentally stumble into such. Either way, it's a dangerous game that will remain concerning as the world watches the events of the next few days.
06.05.202513:05
More indirectly, this news probably provides some hints at the truth pertaining to the recent (and public) infighting in the White House and Pentagon. For the past few weeks, major indications and warnings of an impending war with Iran have been palpable. But now, the words *not* said are deafening...Israel suddenly announcing plans to do what they originally set out to do in the first place could indicate that they don't have the United States to do their bidding as much as they might like with regards to taking on Iran (as hard as this is to believe). This is a bit of a stretch, but Israel announcing plans to "clean out that whole thing" (to quote President Trump himself) probably means that Israel will have their hands full with Gaza for a while. Of course, this could all be a ruse to disguise and distract from an open war with Iran. As deception is a huge part of this conflict, this always remains a possibility, and it would do well to remember that strategic American resources are still forward-deployed to the region, so an American war with Iran is certainly still on the table.

In this case, the exact same mentality could have been a major contributing factor for the success of this attack. If the event ended at midnight, and the traffic barriers and counterterrorism efforts were ceased only 10-15 minutes later, this would have obviously not been adequate to stop the threats that remained as crowds dispersed throughout the area. As such, constant vigilance and situational awareness are desperately needed at all times, especially if local authorities and event-goers alike are largely complacent. Terrorists are patient. Terrorists do not shuffle their feet and moan about their shift being too long. Terrorists can wait a long time and are dedicated to their goals. Terrorists will wait for the precise moment that they have the best possible chance for success, knowing that authorities have to be successful in preventing attacks at all times...while the terrorist only has to be successful once.

Analyst Comments: Some reports have emerged that claim hostilities have already commenced throughout the northern border districts of Kashmir, however at the moment it's not clear if these are legitimate military advances, or just border guards shooting at each other as usual. Reports of heavy artillery being used are more concerning, however at the moment it appears that translation errors could be in play with some of these reports in Indian media. What locals are describing as "heavy artillery" in their native language seems to in actuality be mortar fire, which affects the seriousness of the situation. Cross border fires are quite common by both nations in the region, but the use of what the western world calls "heavy artillery" to fire across the border randomly is less common. What are more frequent (and almost impossible to track and/or verify in this part of the world) are random military units that unilaterally decide to lob a few mortar rounds into abandoned regions across the border.

Regarding the escalations in Ukraine, often times wars flare up on the eve of peace. Of course, no ceasefire has been arrived at yet, much less a long-standing peace deal. However, the normalization of asymmetric warfare among superpowers is not necessarily great for stability. It was a big deal back in December when Ukraine openly claimed credit for the Kirillov assassination. Now that it's happened again, the implications are palpable.

Regardless of how justified Ukraine is in her own defense, the stark reality is that Ukraine's actions will always be tainted by the fact that Russia is a superpower, and Ukraine is not. It doesn't make it morally right or fair, but this is the situation that cannot be ignored. In the context of almost all of Ukraine's military decision making being undertaken by the United States, a rather sobering prospect becomes rather obvious.

When Kirillov was assassinated, the United States' official position was that the US was not involved nor did any American advisor have any prior knowledge of the attack being planned. While the truth of this will be debated on the internet forever, one must remember that "beyond reasonable doubt" rarely has any place in the world of international diplomacy between superpowers.

In short, since the United States is funding and (either directly or indirectly) assisting Ukraine in conducting asymmetric warfare in Russia's capital city...there's quite literally nothing stopping Russia from arming cartels or criminal organizations to do the same within the American homeland. Fairness and morality do not necessarily protect from the consequences of actions, such as arming a proxy to conduct asymmetric warfare in your adversary's home turf. Now that routine and regular assassinations of high-ranking officials in an adversary's capital city are on the menu, the level of instability that this brings will probably complicate negotiations moving forward.

//BLUF: INDIA PAKISTAN SHELLING OF BORDER REGION CONTINUES, FEW CASUALTIES REPORTED. AX ATTACK STRIKES WARSAW. IED DETONATED AT CATHOLIC CHURCH IN PENNSYLVANIA.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

Poland: Yesterday afternoon an assailant conducted an ax attack at the University of Warsaw. One woman was beheaded during the attack, and a security guard was seriously wounded. The attacker was detained at the scene.

AC: As is common throughout Europe, the identity of the attacker has not been released and all photos of the assailant have so far been censored to protect his identity.

Vatican City: This morning a new Pope was elected. Cardinal Robert Prevost was selected to become Pope, taking the name of Leo XIV.

 -HomeFront-

Pennsylvania: Yesterday a man was arrested for detonating an IED inside the Rectory at St. Teresa Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City on Tuesday. Authorities arrested Kyle Kuczynski the next day after he was identified via security camera footage. The explosive device caused significant damage to the altar, and several windows were blown out due to the explosion.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: In Pakistan and India, sporadic fighting has remained constant over the past few days, though efforts by both sides fall short of what most would consider a war. Random drone attacks by both sides have taken place throughout Kashmir and along the border regions in both countries. Heavy artillery barrages have remained constant since this whole affair began, however few (if any) casualties have been reported by either side due to this shelling. At the moment, casualty figures are impossible to verify with any shred of accuracy, but the numbers have been extremely low compared to the intense fighting being reported. So far, less than 50x fatal casualties have been reported on all sides, including instances of Civilian Casualties (CIVCAS) which make up the bulk of casualties right now.

Most of the videos being posted to social media are either AI-generated or (more commonly) are of random conflicts around the world. This afternoon, some local media sources claim that India has opened the sluice gates to at least one dam that was previously restricting the flow of water into Pakistan. If this is true, this is very likely a de-escalatory action that is probably intended to reduce the severity of whatever limited counterattack Pakistan has in mind. Regarding that expected counterattack, so far it's hard to determine if any such action has occurred beyond the clashes along the border.

//BLUF: UKRAINE REJECTS CEASEFIRE OFFER. TEXAS HOUSE PASSES SPEECH CRIME BILL. WHITE POWDER FOUND IN ENVELOPE MAILED TO NY CRIMINAL COURT, EMERGENCY RESPONSE ONGOING.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

Ukraine: Zelenskyy has rejected the ceasefire proposal announced by Russia. Various Ukrainian media outlets have stated that the reason for the rejection is that Ukraine wants to pursue a 30-day ceasefire instead of the 72-hour cessation of hostilities announced by Russia.

Southern Europe: Most of the electrical outages throughout the continent have subsided as investigations into the cause have continued. So far, no official cause for the outage has been released.

 -HomeFront-

Wisconsin: The state Supreme Court has suspended Judge Hannah Dugan from the bench for her role in aiding and abetting the escape of an illegal immigrant from her courtroom.

Texas: House Bill 366 passed in the House last night. This bill is highly-controversial as it contains vague language that under many circumstances bans political memes and media that does not explicitly have a government-approved warning disclaimer. The bill now heads to the Senate for a vote.

Texas: The bond for Solomon Weldekeal-Araya has been reduced from $1.2 million to $7,000 by a Travis County judge. Weldekeal-Araya was arrested in March for causing a pileup on I-35 that killed 5x people and injured 11x.

New York: This afternoon an envelope filled with an unidentified white powder was mailed to the New York Criminal Court. Upon the discovery of the mysterious substance, 7x people were hospitalized out of an abundance of caution.

AC: As this is a developing story at the time of this report, there are very few details that are confirmed. However, considering the context of the increased risks of terrorism around the nation, an abundance of caution would be wise to adhere to.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: Regarding the power outage in Spain, most European media groups are sticking with the story that some kind of electromagnetic phenomenon caused the outage. This is almost certainly a fabrication. No abnormal electromagnetic interference was reported throughout the whole continent on the day of the outage. Both NASA and ESA solar weather forecasts confirmed no abnormal sunspots or anything out of the ordinary. No watches or warnings of impending solar weather were issued that day either. None of the smaller electrical interconnects throughout the continent experienced any sort of variation whatsoever. If this was a global electromagnetic interference situation, the Earth must have recognized international land borders, since Spain and Portugal were pretty much the only nations affected. (Southern France's power came back on only after a few minutes in some cases.) Spain's own state-sponsored meteorology agency (AEMET) stated directly that "No unusual meteorological or atmospheric phenomena were detected in Spain on April 28th, nor were there any sudden temperature fluctuations at our network of weather stations".

In Texas, there is already a substantial amount of information manipulation regarding HB366. Supporters of the bill state that it is intended to stop political candidates from memeing each other. This is still very obviously unconstitutional, but this appears to be the goal. The bigger problem (where this bill applies to most people, not just political candidates) is that this bill also applies to anyone who uses a meme in a form of employment whereby at least $100 is earned. In short, it seems as though Texas has re-defined what is considered to be "political advertising" in such a way as to be an extremely broad definition.
28.04.202522:43
New Jersey: This afternoon a ground stop was issued for all aviation traffic departing Newark following a reported loss of radio capabilities at the tower.

AC: Since this is the busiest air traffic control sector in the United States, this is a big deal. Details are sketchy at best, but pilots report a loss of radio communication with the tower at Newark for unknown reasons. Some unconfirmed reports suggest Newark tower lost radar at some point as well. Either way (and as serious as this incident is), this has happened before.

Illinois: A woman was murdered on the Green Line in Chicago last Thursday, after a brief altercation. Witnesses state that Willie Holmes initially started an altercation with a stranger (identified as Emily Carlson) while transiting on an L train, prompting the victim's boyfriend to confront the assailant. Holmes then produced a knife and murdered Carlson.

Wyoming: An alleged cartel weapons trafficker remains at large after being a no-show in court on Friday. Ricardo Paez-Quinones was originally arrested after being caught smuggling around 18,000 small arms rounds in Carbon County last month. Paez-Quinones, being an illegal immigrant that was previously deported twice, was indicted by a grand jury following his initial arrest.

AC: Despite the original prosecutor arguing that the individual was very likely to be a flight risk due to his connections to organized crime, U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Scott Klosterman released him from custody on a $20,000 bond. Because this bond was unsecured, he did not have to pay a dime up front for his release. He simply walked free to become a fugitive after being allowed to do so by the judge, who knew that most of the suspect's family lived in Mexico, and that he was a twice-deported illegal alien.

Oregon: Details regarding the discovery of a suspicious device have been released by local authorities. Last week, a suspicious package was discovered by an employee of a local mechanic shop in La Grande. After authorities were alerted to the device, a local Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team confirmed that the device was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was fashioned as a crude pipe bomb with ball bearings added for additional shrapnel.

AC: This story did not gain much traction when it first came to light, however additional details (and photo evidence) has confirmed that this device was located on the sidewalk immediately adjacent to Calvary Chapel. This context indicates that this small-town news story is likely related to the general increase in risks to religious institutions around the nation.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments:

The blackout in Europe is very likely the largest power outage to strike the continent in recent memory, and the effects are very widespread. When power goes out in one neighborhood minor inconvenience is the result, but when a outage strikes on a continental scale, very serious impacts are observed.

Portuguese grid officials have claimed that the outage was the result of "rare atmospheric phenomenon". This is comparatively common when severe solar weather causes electromagnetic variations in the Earth's ionosphere. However space weather for the past few days has been very mild, with no watches or warnings even being issued at all over the past few days. Power grid fluctuations occurring with this little solar activity are completely unheard of, making these space weather claims dubious at best. Due to the language barrier, it is possible that the references to "atmospheric" causes were not related to space weather, but rather actual weather. Hot weather can cause power lines to stretch and droop into other lines, the resulting shorting of which can cause exceptionally widespread outages if it occurs in the right place. This has been the cause of several very infamous power outages over the years (combined with mismanaged regulation of voltage, causing transmission lines to heat up and stretch even more).

//BLUF: INDIA-PAKISTAN TENSIONS REMAIN HIGH. POSSIBLE IED DISCOVERED AT FORT BRAGG GATE. TWO JUDGES ARRESTED ON CHARGES OF HARBORING ILLEGALS.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

India/Pakistan: Overnight the situation deteriorated significantly as both sides escalate the situation as expected. So far, no military unit appears to have crossed the Line of Control (LoC) yet, save for one lone Indian soldier who was captured by Pakistani border guards yesterday. This morning an Indian Air Force aircraft jettisoned a fuel tank while over one of their own towns in Shivpuri district, which landed on a house and killed one civilian.

Russia/Ukraine: Tensions have briefly escalated amid peace talks. Two days ago, Russia launched a missile strike on Kiev, striking the Antonov aircraft factory in the industrial sector of the city. This morning, Russian Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik was assassinated via an explosive device that was planted in a parked vehicle near his home in a suburb of Moscow. When the General walked past, the device was detonated.

AC: Even without any evidence indicating blame whatsoever, the overall context strongly indicates that the assassination of a high-ranking Russian General was almost certainly retaliation for the strike at the Antonov factory in Kiev. The attack method was identical to that which killed another Russian General, Igor Kirillov, who was assassinated in the same area (the eastern suburbs of Moscow) back in December of last year.

 -HomeFront-

North Carolina: Last night one of the entrances to Fort Bragg was briefly locked down due to a possible explosive device being detected at the All American Gate. Details are very unconfirmed and highly speculative at the moment, but most local media is stating that a Jordanian national was stopped after he attempted to smuggled an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) through the gate. No official confirmation of exactly what happened has been released by base personnel.

Wisconsin: This morning county Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by the FBI on obstruction of justice charges for allegedly harboring an illegal alien at her courthouse. In a statement provided by the U.S. Marshalls Service, Judge Dugan aided and abetted an illegal immigrant to evade capture by using off-limits passageways in the courthouse to escape. Judge Dugan also directly lied to federal officials about the illegal's whereabouts when presented with a lawful court order for his detention.

New Mexico: Judge Cano, the infamous Judge who openly admitted to harboring an illegal alien and TdA member in the guesthouse at his home, was also arrested yesterday afternoon along with his wife.

AC: This somewhat surprising arrest appears to have been conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, which could indicate that the immigration status of the immigrant he was harboring was the lesser concern, in favor of the individual actually being a TdA member. Even for New Mexico, where various cartels have a huge influence over the justice system, that TdA label was probably a bridge too far for this Judge to be able to quietly retire and forget about the whole affair (as he tried to do a few days ago).

South Carolina: A murder suspect has been arrested following a crime spree (including a high-profile murder) over the weekend. Logan Federico was murdered in Columbia in what appears to be a home invasion. Authorities state that Alexander Dickey was burglarizing each home along Cyprus Street, murdering the victim when he encountered her inside one of the residences.

Houston: A man armed with a knife was shot and killed by police in the parking lot of the Kelsey Seybold Clinic on Cyprus Creek Parkway. No solid details have been released regarding this incident, however claims have been made by local media that the incident arose after the man was found living in his vehicle in the parking lot. After police approached the man, he refused to leave, and eventually pulled a knife that resulted in the police shooting.

Alabama: One person has been arrested following a fatal vehicle accident involving a semi truck in Thomasville. Yesterday morning, Andrii Dmyterko (an immigrant in the United States on a work visa) was arrested for causing a pileup after he failed to notice vehicles stopped at a traffic signal. The resulting crash killed two people and injured four others.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: Violent crime season is indeed in full swing already this year, with multiple horrific crimes taking place around the nation over the past few days. It's too soon to tell if the baseline of murders and attacks is higher than usual this year, however it's a good idea to remain aware of these things anyway.

In Yemen, clearly someone somewhere is lying. At this point, it's almost equally possible that either side in this conflict seeks to save face. The United States military, the best professional fighting force by a wide margin, does not maintain total air superiority in the skies over Yemen. The loss of over twenty drones over the past year or so to a rag-tag ethnic group in the desert is embarrassing. On the other hand, bombing every military target that remains static for a few hours has to have some serious impact on the Houthi's ability to wage war. As such, the Houthis could be lying, in which case they did accept some sort of backdoor peace agreement and are trying to save face regarding their capitulation. Or the United States is lying, and is looking for an egress method from this bombing campaign that has become a very costly war. Costly if not from a budgetary means, but because China is paying attention to how the war is being waged in Yemen. And so far, the Houthis have proven that a small, haphazardly-organized ethnic group, which doesn't have hardly any advanced technology, can still contest the airspace over their part of the world and prevent the US Air Force from maintaining air superiority. In short, if the Houthis can give the US military a run for their money (even if the Houthis eventually do lose most engagements), this is important combat data for other American military aspirations around the globe. Either way, time will tell. The 6x B2 Spirit stealth bombers and their tankers are still forward deployed to Diego Garcia and have been supplemented by what is likely to be a total of 4x B-52s as well. Tiktokers still have smartphones in Yemen, so if the bombings continue unabated we can more accurately assess who's telling the truth.

Middle East: Israeli media has announced that Netanyahu's cabinet has approved plans to completely seize control of Gaza. Local Israeli media has stated that another general mobilization is underway, with tens of thousands of reservists being calling into active service in the IDF.

Washington D.C. - Significant scandal erupted over the weekend in Congress as House Resolution 867 was introduced for a vote. The bill sought to modify the text of 50 USC 4841 and 4842 (both being wartime trade laws) to restrict American's ability to boycott certain nations and groups (according to the bill's sponsors, specifically one nation, Israel). After the expected backlash, the vote on this bill has been postponed.

AC: Most of the outrage over this is really related to the already-passed Anti-Boycott Act of 2018, which went almost completely unnoticed by the chaos of the COVID years. H.R. 867 merely sought to change the terminology so that the term "international government organization" was placed after the words "foreign country" in the text of 50 USC § 4841. What this means in practice is anyone's guess as the original law was passed with extremely vague and broad language. This additional aspect of adding IGO's to the mix is interesting in that it provides a clue as to what manipulations are being undertaken in Washington on this issue. Previously the laws only applied to government-level boycotts...but adding in IGOs could mean that the floodgates are opened for all of this to impact the average American.

Washington D.C. - During a press conference the White House has stated that there is no specific timeline for the release of the Epstein files.

AC: Though this was probably the case all along, there is almost zero chance that these files will ever be released. Following the binder-scandal of two months ago, a lot of older previously-known documentation will eventually be re-released and touted as new, but the files that everyone wants (as in Epstein's client list that does exist and was presented in court) will almost certainly never be made public.

Ohio: A police officer was murdered as part of a revenge killing incident in Cincinnati. A traffic control officer was intentionally struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon near the University of Cincinnati. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Rodney Hinton Jr, who is the father of Ryan Hinton, a black male that was shot and killed by police on Thursday for drawing a gun on police officers who discovered him inside a stolen vehicle they were attempting to locate.

AC: Not many details are being released on this incident, probably to reduce the palpably high tensions regarding this incident. Though the timing is hard to verify, local media reports that Rodney Hinton was shown the body cam footage of his son's death, which confirmed beyond all doubt that the police shooting was justified. After viewing the video, Hinton promptly left the police station and proceeded to murder what seems to be a random officer not specifically involved in the incident. Since this was very much a knee-jerk revenge killing, it's hard to imagine that Hinton would have murdered the correct police officer involved in his son's killing (even if it's because the officers involved in the shooting are probably on administrative leave as is standard procedure). However, now that the situation has become a high profile incident, the security concerns to the officers who are actually involved with the prior shooting are exceptionally high, thus the little information regarding the link between these two cases.

//BLUF: UNITED STATES TO REDUCE DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS REGARDING UKRAINE PEACE TALKS. GERMANY DESIGNATES AFD PARTY AS AN EXTREMIST ORG.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

Germany: Yesterday Germany's main domestic spying agency publicly classified the entire Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party as a far-right extremist organization. This prompted the United States to issue statements of condemnation, as German authorities crack down on growing dissent via the open use of domestic intelligence agencies.

Germany: This afternoon a vehicle ramming incident was reported in Stuttgart after a vehicle collided with a group of people waiting at a bus stop. A total of 11x people were wounded and at least one victim has succumbed to their wounds. The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.

AC: It's not immediately clear as to if this was a legitimate and deliberate terror attack, or if it was more of a tragic motor vehicle accident. Local authorities claim that the incident was merely a traffic accident, however German police have been known to openly lie about terrorist attacks being terror attacks, so this is an unreliable source for determining causation. In any case, the driver being arrested for questioning after the incident could indicate that it was a more deliberate attack.

 -HomeFront-

Washington D.C. - This morning the White House announced that the USA will take a reduced role in the continuation of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that “It is now between the two parties, and now — now is the time that they need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end. It’s going to be up to them".

AC: The United States will probably not walk away from this war as much as one might be inclined to think based on this statement. This sentiment is probably intended to force both Russia and Ukraine back to the table and to get serious about a peace deal.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: The classification of the AfD party in Germany as an extremist group is completely unsurprising, especially as the latest polling data suggests the AfD might actually be the largest support base in the country. Interestingly enough, the agency that issued this label is the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfD), or Germany's main domestic intelligence service. While most other nations frame their intelligence services as being foreign in nature (at least on paper), Germany does indeed have a modern day domestic equivalent to the STASI, the infamous intelligence service of the Cold War. What's perhaps most interesting is that the AfD party isn't really a right-wing or conservative party...even by European standards. It's generally described as a centrist party, at most. Even by American standards, most of the AfD's political platform is in alignment with the American Democratic party.

Germany using their domestic spying agencies to crack down on this group and open up a wealth of tools to not just spy on, but actually kinetically target members of this party, is a very interesting development that points out just how far to the political left the federal institutions are in Germany.

-International Events-

Canada: Yesterday's election resulted in a narrow win for the Liberal candidate Mark Carney, who is to remain Prime Minister after being passed the role by Justin Trudeau a few weeks ago.

Brazil: This morning a disturbance was reported onboard an American Airlines flight bound for New York. Shortly after boarding was conducted on flight AA950, a woman became belligerent and attempted to rush the cockpit. The woman was restrained by the flight crew, and was removed from the flight (along with a different man who became agitated during the incident as well), which then proceeded to it's destination without further incident.

AC: This probably wasn't a deliberate terrorist attack; most of the videos of the incident suggest it was more of a mental health incident. However, since the aircraft was still at the gate, the cockpit door was left open (per standard procedure), so the flight crew had a hard time keeping the woman out of the cockpit during the incident.

Sweden: This afternoon a small arms attack was reported in Uppsala, a small town just north of Stockholm. 3x people were killed during the attack, which reportedly broke out inside a hair salon near Vaksala Square. The attackers remain at large, having fled the scene in a vehicle. Police have not provided any details regarding the attackers.

AC: At the moment, it's not clear as to if this was a mass shooting and/or targeting of random civilians, or if this was more along the lines of a skirmish between rival gangs. The immigration crisis faced by Stockholm has been a major contributing factor for gang violence, which often breaks out in the form of bombings and skirmishes in the streets between rival groups.

 -HomeFront-

New Mexico: Jose Luis Cano and his wife have been released from jail. The former magistrate judge and his wife were released after each posted a $10,000 bond.

Missouri: Yesterday a firefighter was fatally stabbed by a patient in Kansas City. Firefighter and Paramedic Graham Hoffman was stabbed by Shanetta Bossell while en route to the hospital.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: The murder in Kansas City is the direct result of a judge releasing a violent criminal knowing that the criminal was a threat to society. In this case, Bossell had been released from jail pending a different case that had occurred just a few days prior. On April 23, Bossell attempted to break into a police officer's personal vehicle with a brick. During the response and subsequent fray, she bit the officer several times and attempted to stab him with his own knife, prompting her arrest on a slew of charges. On Friday, regardless of the violence displayed by this individual, Judge Louis Angles set a bond of $10,000 for her, despite the prosecutor explicitly arguing that she was a danger to the community.

Canada: A vehicle ramming attack was conducted at the Lapu Lapu Filipino Heritage festival in Vancouver on Saturday night. Authorities state that the attacker intentionally drove his vehicle into a large crowd of people gathered at the intersection of Frasier and E 41st Avenue, killing 11x people and wounding dozens more. Local authorities have identified the attacker as Kai-Ji Adam Lo, who was arrested at the scene. Local police stated that the attacker was very well known to police, and had been the result of many emergency responses involving mental health incidents.

Europe: This morning, a large-scale electrical power outage was reported throughout Spain, before rapidly cascading to include Portugal, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. A few hours after the outage began, French utilities started to come back online. Spain and Portugal appear to be hardest hit, with a total blackout affecting much of the two countries. Portugal's grid operator has not given a timeline for a return of power, and has indicated that the delay might be significant. Grid operators in Spain stated that it will take most of the day to restore power throughout the blackout zones, though as night has fallen much of the region remains without electricity. A state of emergency has been declared throughout Spain, and officials in the provinces of Andalusia, Extremadura, and Madrid (plus the city proper) have requested federal authorities declare the crisis a Civil Protection Level 3, so as to maintain order throughout the night in major cities as the outage persists.

AC: This level of emergency declaration is usually only reserved for wartime as it involves a declaration of martial law, and a widespread deployment of military forces. Checkpoints and ID checks are also a part of this plan, along with the restriction of travel, curfews, etc.

Ukraine: President Putin has announced that a general ceasefire will take place from May 8-10 along all fronts. AC: Neither American nor Ukrainian leadership has commented on the ceasefire announcement yet, nor have there been any indications as to if Ukraine will be participating in the 72-hour cessation of hostilities.

Red Sea/HOA: An aviation mishap was reported onboard the USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75). During routine aviation operations, one F/A-18 aircraft was lost overboard while being towed by aircraft handlers. The tractor towing the aircraft was lost overboard as well. No casualties were reported as a result of this incident.

AC: Warfare is dangerous business, and it would seem that this proverbial "business is getting out of control" for the TRUMAN. This deployment has been rough so far for the entire strike group, as military forces globally experience the follow-on effects of an increased optempo, stressed maintenance schedules, and even complacency. On this one deployment to the Red Sea, one of her escorts shot down one of her own aircraft in a friendly-fire incident (Dec, 2024), she collided with a merchant vessel resulting in damage to her fantail (Feb, 2025), and now an entire aircraft was lost overboard. This is important in the context that she is on her second Captain (the first skipper was fired after the collision) during this deployment...a deployment which was extended a few weeks ago amid rising tensions with the Iranians.

//BLUF: INDIA AND PAKISTAN ON THE BRINK OF WAR. ARREST MADE IN CONJUNCTION WITH NEW JERSEY WILDFIRE.//

 -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----

-International Events-

India/Pakistan: The situation has rapidly increased in seriousness following India's actions after the recent terror attack in Kashmir. Various diplomats in both nations have been declared persona-non-grata, and diplomatic talks between both belligerents have been progressively deteriorating for the past 24 hours. Both India and Pakistan have closed all border crossings and suspended all visas from each other's country. India has ordered the deportation of all Pakistanis from India, and Pakistan has ordered likewise with all Indians in Pakistan. Both nations have issued repatriation orders, urging their own citizens to return to their respective nations immediately.

India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (1960), halting all water access into Pakistan via the closure of sluice gates at the various dams along rivers that flow into Pakistan. As this water is crucial for roughly 80% of all agricultural irrigation in Pakistan, Pakistani leadership has labeled the move as an act of war and has subsequently threatened to bomb these dams. In response to this rhetoric, India has deployed the INS Vikrant (one of her two aircraft carriers), which was observed maneuvering off the coast of Pakistan this morning. Various airspace closures have been reported between the two nations as well.

 -HomeFront-

New Jersey: This morning authorities announced the arrest of Joseph Kling on charges of aggravated arson, for his role in starting the fires that have swept through the state over the past few days. The arrest notice stated that he set a bonfire in a wooded area and departed before the fire was extinguished.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: The development involving India deploying her main flagship during this crisis is probably related to one of three possibilities. 1 - It's a standard deployment that isn't related to any current event, 2 - It is an attempt by India to bully Pakistan via a little power-projection on the high seas, or 3 - India is intending to actually carry out some sort of military operation against Pakistan.

Under normal conditions, the latter option wouldn't be a realistic theory, however when it comes to the India/Pakistan conflict anything goes. This is why despite most of the civilized world not caring about what happens on the Indian subcontinent, this conflict has the potential to become rather serious. India and Pakistan have a very long history of conducting themselves exactly how they are doing so right now; tensions rising to the brink of war between these two nations has been quite common over the years. However, when two third-world nations have grievances that go back thousands of years, but both nations also happen to have nuclear weapons, the game takes on a slightly more concerning tone. Either way, the next few weeks will be a point of concern as these old rivals continue to escalate the situation.
