Gregorian calendar shenanigans aside - Today, 1st of May is May Day 🌺🌸🌼
On this May Day, whilst many of us don’t do ‘matrix holidays’ these days - we can still celebrate the old Celtic festival of Beltane ~ a festival celebrating fertility, fire, and the start of summer☀️🌻 ☀️ as it marks the midpoint between the spring equinox and summer solstice.
Beltane comes from the Celtic words Bel, referring to the Celtic sun god Belenus - who was associated with healing, light, and fire 🌟🔥 sounds like he was an original LightWarrior!
Bonfires, dancing round maypoles (and for the Brits here - Morris Dancing!) are customary activities, symbolising growth, vitality, and the Union of Earth & Sun.
If you so choose, celebrate the coming of summer, honor the creative union of masculine and feminine energies and give thanks to nature with a simple ritual.
You just need:
• A couple of candle(s) - red and white are traditional
• Fresh flowers
• A bowl of water and a small stone (to represent balance of elements)
• Seasonal food or drink for offering (like milk, honey, bread, or fruit)
Steps:
1. Create Sacred Space
Cast a circle or simply pause in silence and declare your intent:
“I stand at the turning of the seasons, to honor Beltane, the fire of life.”
2. Elemental Acknowledgment (optional)
Call upon earth, air, fire, and water with short invocations or gestures.
3. Light the Candle(s)
Say: “I light this flame to honor the spark of life and passion within and around me.”
4. Flower Offering
Place flowers at the base of the candle or fire as a gift to nature spirits, ancestors, or deities you work with.
5. Meditation or Prayer
Take a few minutes to reflect on what you want to grow in your life, for example, creativity, connection, healing, joy….
6. Water and Stone Ritual (Balance)
Dip the stone in the water and say: “May passion (fire) and peace (water) dwell in balance within me.”
7. Closing and Feast
Thank any spirits or energies you called upon.
Enjoy a simple meal or drink and leave a small portion outside as an offering to nature 🌟✨🌟
