“If we remain steadfast, then Alhamdulillah. As I have said, trials will never cease. It is the nature of the journey. You are merely following your religion, yet others will not leave you alone.
It is as one of the Imams (AS) said—though I cannot recall which one—when he addressed his people on the day of Arba’in: ‘A believer must be tested. Even if he flees to a forest or climbs a mountain, Allah will still send a disbeliever or a hypocrite to cause him harm.’
This means that it is not possible for a person to be completely safe from harm. It is a fundamental principle of this path. The Imam was consoling them during the forty days of Imam Hussain (AS), saying: if you remain steadfast, you will certainly face trials. There is no other way but to endure them, for these trials are your honor.
You will pass the test through hardship. In fact, we can say that Paradise itself is the reward for enduring hardship. I mentioned earlier that Allah (swt) improved the condition of the Children of Israel because of the trials they faced. And on the Day of Judgment, the Angels will enter Paradise and say,
‘Peace be upon you, O people of the world,’ greeting them for what they endured. So, what is hardship? It is calamity. Calamity is hardship. If it is not a calamity, then it is not truly hardship.”
