Ghostbusters of Horlivka
In occupied Horlivka, the Russian occupation forces have come up with a new wave of "creative" tactics (read: cynical and dangerous). Along Lenin Street, right at public transport stops, pairs of so-called “ghostbusters” now stand all day long — two per stop, wielding oversized anti-drone rifles. Locals gave them the nickname thanks to their absurd appearance: huge weapons, dark glasses, and constant sky-gazing — all while refusing to step out from under the shelter of the bus stop.
The reason? Just in the past week, 5–6 “Bukhankas” (UAZ vans), one truck, and an infantry fighting vehicle mysteriously went up in flames. The occupiers are clearly losing confidence in their invincibility.
The idea isn’t new — it dates back to 2014: hide in crowds, fire from civilian areas, and if something hits you, immediately report that “Ukrainians are shelling civilians.” Very convenient. Especially when the civilians you're "protecting" are under your gunpoint.
When a drone is shot down, its fall isn’t controlled. It crashes into rooftops, playgrounds, schools, kindergartens. But locals can’t ask too many questions — that's a risky hobby under occupation.
Lenin Street is the central artery of the city. By placing their "anti-drone air defense line" there, the occupiers are shielding the eastern part of the city — the area where they’ve stashed command centers, warehouses, and personnel locations (PDDs).
And by the way, the recent hit on VGSCh (the paramilitary mine-rescue unit), which the occupation media blew out of proportion, was actually a precise strike on military equipment being hidden and serviced there. But of course, no one on their side is going to mention that.
“Defense” Russian-style means shooting from behind women and children.
