With possible exception of France all major European Union countries (those with 30 million plus people)have disastrous fertility rates. Spain (49M) on 1.12, Poland (38M) on 1.10 in 2024 (far worse than 1.2 for 2023 shown here), Italy (58M) on 1.2, Germany (83M) on 1.36. Hard to pull out of this nosedive.
Countries with decent TFR but sub 10 million people won’t save Europe. The lack of fertility cults also hurts chances of any rebound. Don’t see culture changing dramatically enough in Spain, Germany, Italy, etc to get TFR back to 1.7/1.8. Nothing is impossible though 🤷♂️.

The Patel Motel Cartel: How DEI Loans Displaced Heritage Americans from the Motel Industry
A few days ago, there was a volleyball tournament for Indians in America who are part of the Leuva Patidar Samaj caste. A Dylan Patel tweeted "literally everyone here owns a motel or gas station in rural America."
This phenomenon was noticed all the way back in 1999 by Tunku Varadjaran in an NY Times Magazine article titled the "Patel Motel Cartel."
Republicans upset about the caste system are missing the point.
"The Patel Cartel" phenomenon flourishes in the US because of:
1️⃣ Ethnic specialization: the caste they’re a member of (mostly with the last name Patel) have been innkeepers and businessmen in India for centuries. There are a total of 150K Patels in the US—the 40K above is a subcaste of a subcaste.
2️⃣ DEI/Affirmative Action/Minority preference loans: The SBA lends hundreds of millions of dollars, up to $5 million at a time, to minority entrepreneurs—including Indian-Americans, who have NEVER been officially discriminated against.
So, since we imported Indians and offered them preference loans, 60% of American hotels are owned by Indians, more specifically of this subcaste.
And all this was financed by your tax dollars.
