it's bad, it's really really bad, ask a physicist to tell calculate the radius of the proton, he cannot without measuring it, maxwells theory, at one point, was built with a framework that more resembled gears intermeshing than the abstractions people are familiar with now, I'm not in anyways casting aspersions on his work btw, but it is worth remembering that those theories, were first built with mental mechanical models made to fit the data they had, and that methodology served us really really well, modern eggheads have completely forgotten or most likely never learnt this, they take their equations more seriously than they should and have substituted experiment for joining the mathematicians in playing with ideas over the real world which yes can be described by mathematics but most of the time the math is an approximation at best.
