✈️ The participation of the Russian Knights and Strizhi aerobatic teams in Victory Day parades has become a longstanding tradition.

Year after year, the pilots flawlessly execute mind-boggling maneuvers , while flying in precise formation over Red Square, making proud our flying aces of the past, best Soviet pilots in #WWII.

🇷🇺 Their flyovers, highlighted by the smoke trails in the colours of the Russian flag, are a signature part of the parade.

🇷🇺🇮🇪 Embassy of Russia in Ireland:

🏅 On May 8, 2025, the Russian Embassy in Ireland hosted a reception to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The reception was attended by representatives of the Dublin diplomatic corps, the Irish public, and compatriots living in Ireland.

🎙 In his address to the audience, the Russian Ambassador to Ireland Yuriy Filatov warmly congratulated those gathered on the anniversary of the Great Victory. The Ambassador emphasized the decisive contribution of the Soviet people to the defeat of Nazi Germany and the victorious end of World War II.

🤝 The Ambassador stated that Russia and its like-minded people in the countries of the world majority reject any attempts to question the results of World War II. It was especially noted that the significance of the common Victory over fascism lies in the fact that it laid the foundation for the creation and development of a fair, multipolar world order.

#Opinion by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova

💬 Today, as the West is celebrating the end of the Second World War in Europe, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany posted three “powerful” messages in Russian, French, and English about Germany’s responsibility on its English-language X account.

#8May1945 has shaped our history more than almost any other day. It was a day of liberation not only for the millions who were tormented and stripped of their most basic rights by the Nazi regime.

It was the beginning of an unprecedented period of peace for #Europe, even if some countries continued to long for freedom for far too long.

We owe our freedom to the enormous sacrifices of the Allies. We will always be grateful for this.

Our historic responsibility for the Shoah - the betrayal of all civilised values - and the remembrance of the millions of victims of the Second World War unleashed by Nazi Germany gives rise to our obligation to resolutely defend peace and freedom in Europe today.”

<...>

In the English and French versions of the post, the German diplomats apologise “for the Shoah,” that is, the Holocaust. But the Russian text only mentions an obscure “civilisational rift.”

That’s interesting. Did the Nuremberg Trials mete out punishment for a “civilisational rift” or for the inhuman crimes of the Holocaust? The verdict of the International Military Tribunal makes it unambiguously clear that "a number of concentration camps were outfitted with special gas chambers for mass extermination of inmates and special crematoria for burning dead bodies.<...>Most non-Jewish inmates were used as labour. <...>Those who fell ill and were unable to work were either killed in gas chambers or shipped to special holding cells <...> they were doomed to death. The killings and brutal treatment of civilians were especially widespread with regard to citizens of the Soviet Union and Poland.”

The verdict didn’t say a word about a “civilisational rift.”

Next, why didn’t the German Foreign Office apologise to the Russian-speaking audience for the Nazi regime’s atrocities against millions of people in Europe? That is a question for Berlin and its new Chancellor Friedrich Merz to answer. I believe the answer is very simple: they don’t feel much when they kill civilians in a territory that was marked on the maps of Generalplan Ost (General Plan East) as “lebensraum” (living space). We have seen over the past three years that their plans towards Russia don’t have a statute of limitations, although right-minded people usually apply this term to Nazi crimes.

I would like to remind you that, according to Russian and German historians, millions of Soviet people were thrown into German concentration camps. About 3 million of them died there, and many of them were tortured to death. Millions of Jews, Slavs, Roma and other ethnic groups from the Soviet Union were the victims of EXTERMINATION, which is exactly what the word “Holocaust” means. But Berlin deliberately avoided acknowledging this on May 8.

<...>

And lastly, the phrase about the part of the continent that remained unfree for too long sounds absolutely absurd. They probably alluded to the countries of the socialist camp, which rejected the fettering Marshall Plan, but have actually reminded themselves about the occupation of their countries by American troops.

Stultified by Baerbock’s illiteracy, German diplomats don’t know that Victory over Nazism had been the only element in Europe that united both socialist and capitalist countries for a very long time, nearly 50 years.

As for the commitment to resolutely defend peace and freedom in Europe, well, finally. That's not hard to figure out: stop supporting and sending weapons to neo-Nazis in Kiev, shut down the military transport hub in Rzeszow, and distance yourself from those who attacked peaceful cities and threatened world leaders, right when the 80th Anniversary of the Victory is celebrated.

That would be a good start.

🌟 On May 9, 2006, Russia introduced the honorary title of 'City of Military Glory'.

This title is awarded to cities that saw displays of courage, perseverance and mass heroism by our country's defenders during fierce battles.

⚔️ Unlike the title 'Hero Cities', which are honours feats solely from the Great Patriotic War, the 'City of Military Glory' recognises heroic acts across various pivotal moments in Russian history, reaching back as far as the invasion led by Batu Khan.

The first award ceremony took place on May 7, 2007. As of 2025, 47 cities have received this honorary title:

Belgorod, Kursk, Oryol, Vladikavkaz, Yelnya, Yelets, Malgobek, Rzhev, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Tuapse, Polyarny, Luga, Velikiye Luki, Veliky Novgorod, Dmitrov, Vyazma, Kronstadt, Naro-Fominsk, Arkhangelsk, Kozelsk, Pskov, Volokolamsk, Bryansk, Nalchik, Vyborg, Kalach-on-Don, Vladivostok, Tikhvin, Tver, Stary Oskol, Kolpino, Anapa, Kovrov, Lomonosov, Taganrog, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Mozhaisk, Maloyaroslavets, Khabarovsk, Gatchina, Grozny, Petrozavodsk, Staraya Russa, Feodosia, Mariupol and Melitopol.

🏅 The names of these cities are engraved on a granite stele in Alexander Garden in Moscow — part of a unified memorial ensemble alongside the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Alley of Hero Cities. Each City of Military Glory also features its own commemorative stele: a granite column topped with a double-headed eagle, adorned with the city’s coat of arms and the official Presidential decree bestowing the title.

🧑‍🚀 Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov, Alexey Zubrinsky, and Kirill Piskov, congratulated Russian citizens on Victory Day from aboard the International Space Station:

Today, we remember those who achieved the Great Victory in bloody battles and liberated the world from fascism. We bow our heads before those who helped stop the enemy and never returned from the battlefield. We honour those who forged the weapons of Victory in the rear, who endured hunger, bombings, and devastation. We thank those who rebuilt the country from ruins in the shortest time.

🎙 Ambassador Andrei Kelin's address on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in Europe Day

💬 Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day — a date of profound historical and symbolic significance. It is a solemn and powerful reminder of the shared sacrifice and unity that once brought together the nations of the anti-Hitler coalition against Nazism — the greatest evil of the 20th century.

For the Soviet Union, the war came at a terrible cost: millions of lives lost, many cities destroyed and families torn apart. For three long years, the Eastern Front bore the full weight of the Nazi war machine. The fate of humanity hung in the balance in fierce battles at Moscow and Stalingrad, Leningrad and Kursk, the Caucasus and Crimea.

Russia has always acknowledged the importance of the Western Front and the contribution of our Allies to our common cause.

We pay tribute to the bravery of British soldiers and others who fought under the banner of the anti-Hitler coalition — on land, in the air and at sea. We honour the memory of British veterans of the Arctic Convoys — whose perilous missions played a key role in delivering supplies to the Soviet Union through the icy northern waters. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

However, the times have changed. In many regrettable ways the spirit of the wartime alliance has given way to outright confrontation. Distorting or downplaying the Red Army's crucial role in liberating Europe from fascism is seen by some Western politicians to be a useful means of denying Russia a legitimate role in global governance.

❗️ Regrettably, such geopolitically motivated revisionism seems to go hand in hand with condoning and even praising Nazi collaborators and their followers. The ideological white-washing of the Kiev regime and its hideous crimes against Russians and Russian speakers here in the UK and in other parts of the West is a prime example.

The wilful misrepresentation of historical truths is not only deeply offensive to the memory of the countless victims of Nazi atrocities. It is also fraught with real danger for the fabric of human society. If hard-learned lessons of the bloodiest conflict in history are forgotten, then there is nothing to stop humankind from reenacting and reliving its horrors.

We believe it is our responsibility to safeguard the truth — to ensure that future generations are aware of the true cost of victory and the extraordinary effort that went into making it possible. History should not be used as a political tool, but preserved as a foundation for learning, reflection, and, ultimately, reconciliation.

Russia will continue to cherish the memory of the British soldiers, sailors and airmen who were once our allies. Their audacity and valour in the face of absolute evil will remain a lasting symbol of what nations can achieve when they stand together.

☝️ And perhaps, one day, it will be these very pages of shared history — filled with sacrifice and solidarity — that will quietly reopen paths towards renewed dialogue and trust between our countries.

Happy Victory Day!

🏅 Remarks by President of Russia, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Putin at a military parade marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 9, 2025)

💬 President Putin: Citizens of Russia, veterans, guests, comrade soldiers and sailors, sergeants and sergeant majors, midshipmen and warrant officers, comrade officers, generals and admirals!

I congratulate you on the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War!

Today, we are all united by the feelings of joy and grief, pride and gratitude, and admiration for the generation that crushed Nazism and won freedom and peace for all humanity at the cost of millions of lives.

We faithfully preserve the memory of those historic, glorious events. As the heirs of the victors, today we celebrate Victory Day as the most important holiday for the country, which the entire nation, each family, each of us holds dear. <...>

We remember the lessons of WWII and will never agree with the distortion of those events or attempts to justify the murderers and slander the true victors.

Our duty is to defend the honour of the Red Army soldiers and commanders, and the heroism of fighters of different ethnic backgrounds who will forever remain Russian soldiers in world history.

❗️ Russia has been and will continue to be an indestructible obstacle to Nazism, Russophobia and anti-Semitism, and will stand in the way of the violence perpetrated by the champions of these aggressive and destructive ideas.

Truth and justice are on our side. The whole of Russia, our society and all people support the participants in the special military operation. We are proud of their courage and spirit, and their steely determination that has always brought us Victory.

The Soviet Union bore the brunt of the enemy’s most savage and relentless assaults. Millions of people, once devoted solely to peaceful labour, took up arms and stood firm to the death on every hill, bridgehead, and defensive line. The outcome of WWII was determined by decisive victories in major battles of Moscow and Stalingrad, on the Kursk Bulge and the Dnieper River, by the courage of the defenders of Belarus, who were the first to face the invader, by staunch resistance at the Brest Fortress and in Mogilev, Odessa, Sevastopol, Murmansk, Tula and Smolensk, by the heroism of the residents of besieged Leningrad. <...>

The contribution of the peoples of Central Asia and the South Caucasus was immense. From these regions came a steady flow of trains delivering everything the front needed. Hospitals were established, and hundreds of thousands of evacuees found a second home there. <...>

We honour every veteran of the Great Patriotic War and bow our heads in remembrance of all who gave their lives for Victory. <...>

We bow our heads before our fallen comrades-in-arms who laid down their lives as heroes in a righteous battle for Russia.

Nearly 80% of the world’s population were drawn into the fiery orbit of WWII.

The complete defeat of Nazi Germany, militarist Japan and their satellites around the world was achieved through the combined efforts of the Allied Nations.

☝️ We will never forget that the opening of the Second Front in Europe, which took place after the decisive battles in the territory of the Soviet Union, hastened Victory. We highly appreciate the contribution made to our common struggle by the Allied armies, members of the Resistance, the courageous people of China, and all those who fought for a peaceful future.

We will continue to look up to our veterans, taking example from their wholehearted love of the Motherland and commitment to defending our homeland and the values of humanism and justice. We will give these traditions and this great heritage the biggest place in our hearts and will pass them on to future generations.

We will always rely on our unity in battle and in peaceful endeavours, in striving for strategic goals and tackling problems for the benefit of Russia and its greatness and prosperity.

Glory to the victorious nation!

Happy Victory Day!

Hurrah!

🇷🇺🇧🇷 On May 9, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is taking part in celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, held talks in Moscow.

💬 President Putin: Friends,

I am genuinely happy to meet with you, Mr. President. It has indeed been a long time since we last met. You intended to visit Moscow earlier, but work commitments prevented you, and I am delighted to welcome you to Russia. Welcome!

I have warm memories of our previous conversations both in Russia and in Brazil. They were held in a very friendly atmosphere and in a business-like manner. We managed to significantly improve relations between our nations largely thanks to our personal contacts.

As I have already mentioned, it has been long since you last came to Russia. Back then, in 2010, your visit was also in May, and a Joint Statement was adopted on the 65th Anniversary of the end of World War II.

☝️ Victory Day will always carry a special significance for our peoples who were fighting against Nazism. We are well aware that Brazil was among those who joined the anti-Hitler coalition. Your military units took part in combat activities in Italy and defended communication routes in the southern Atlantic thus contributing to our joint victory over the enemy. I know that Brazil, as much as Russia, honours the memory of those events and pays tribute to the feat of the victors.

I would like to point out that our relations continue to develop steadily, and high-level contact is being maintained. You always see the way to personally receive Russian representatives whenever they arrive in Brazil on working visits.

📈 Our bilateral trade is moving ahead. I want to stress that Brazil accounts for the largest share of our trade with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Russia is still the biggest exporter of petroleum products and mineral fertilisers to Brazil while your country maintains leading positions in the Russian food imports.

🤝 We are closely cooperating on the international stage, and we will revisit this topic later. This cooperation includes such venues as the UN, #BRICS and #G20.

I am happy to have this opportunity to discuss these and other matters of mutual interest with you, Mr. President.

🎖 On May 8, the “Immortal Regiment” procession took place on the territory of the Russian Embassy in the United States with the participation of Ambassador A.Darchiev and the staff of the diplomatic mission, members of their families, diplomats from a number of CIS countries, Russian journalists and compatriots. The gathered honored the memory of their relatives and friends who fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 In a brief speech A.Darchiev emphasized that the initiative of the “Immortal Regiment” is important because it does not allow forgetting the feat of the Soviet warrior-liberator, the heroic and legendary Red Army, which broke the back of the Nazi death machine and saved the peoples of Europe, where today they are trying to rewrite history. He emphasized the experience of the anti-Hitler coalition, which is especially in demand now, when a “window of opportunity” has opened for the return of relations between Russia and the United States, as great powers responsible for stability and security around the world, to normality and common sense.

🔹 The Russian Ambassador expressed gratitude to the compatriots who were not afraid to openly march on May 3 with the “Immortal Regiment”, despite threats and attempts at provocation, in the center of Washington, D.C., from the White House to the World War II Memorial.

🎖 Prior to the march, in keeping with a good tradition that began in 2020, the Immortal Regiment participants planted lilac bushes in the Embassy's Garden of Remembrance as a sign of respect and gratitude to the soldiers-liberators. It was with lilac bouquets that the grateful citizens of Europe greeted them in the victorious 1945.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Joint statement by the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China on Global Strategic Stability (May 8, 2025)

In the context of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War and of the founding of the United Nations, the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the two Sides) emphasize the utmost importance of maintaining and strengthening global strategic stability.

Taking into account the serious challenges facing the international community in the sphere of international and regional security, adhering to the strong consensus reached by the Heads of the two States, and acting in the spirit of previous joint documents on this subject and the principled approaches set out therein, the two Sides state the following.

• The two Sides call upon all States to adhere to the principle of equal and indivisible security on global and regional levels, make maximum efforts to eliminate conflicts in relations between States, build comprehensive, integrated and sustainable security throughout the world on a collective basis.

• Nuclear-weapon States, which bear special responsibility for international security and global strategic stability, should reject Cold War mentality and zero-sum games, resolve contradictions via dialogue on an equal footing and mutually respectful consultations, build confidence to avoid dangerous miscalculations and refrain from actions that generate strategic risks.

• The two Sides note with concern that against the backdrop of aggravation in the relations between nuclear-weapon States, which in some cases has escalated to the threat of a direct military clash, a critical mass of problems and challenges has accumulated in the strategic sphere, and the risk of nuclear conflict has increased.

• One of the most pressing strategic risks to be urgently addressed remains the highly destabilizing expansion of existing and newly formed military alliances and coalitions that is being carried out by some nuclear-weapon States close to the frontiers of other nuclear-weapon States in an attempt to establish or expand permanent footholds in such areas, which are particularly sensitive to them, for the purposes of projecting military power, exerting forceful pressure and committing other hostile activities that threaten the core security interests of those States.

• Deeply destabilizing in nature is also the recently announced “Golden (Iron) Dome for America”, a large-scale program designed to establish unconstrained, global, deeply layered and multi-domain missile defense system to protect against any missile threats, including all types of missiles from “peer and near-peer adversaries”.

• In order to safeguard world peace, ensure equal and indivisible security for all, and improve the predictability and sustainability of the exploration and peaceful use of outer space by all States, the two Sides agree to promote on a global scale the international initiative/political commitment not to be the first to deploy weapons in outer space.

• The two Sides reaffirm their commitment to The Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Five Nuclear-Weapons States on Preventing Nuclear War and Avoiding Arms Races of January 3, 2022 and to the principle enshrined therein that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.

• The two Sides state that the efforts undertaken by the AUKUS (US-UK-Australia) partnership to establish military infrastructure of two nuclear-weapon States in support of the activities of their nuclear forces in the territory of a State Party to the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty undermine strategic stability and provoke an arms race in the region.

• The two Sides intend to continue in the most active manner to enhance the coordination of their approaches and to deepen the practical cooperation on maintaining and strengthening global strategic stability, as well as to jointly address common challenges and threats in this sphere.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Talks between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of China Xi Jinping in expanded format (May 8, 2025)

💬 President Putin: We have had a deep and substantive exchange of opinions on the main areas of development of the Russian-Chinese comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation in a limited attendance format, and also outlined long-term plans for further joint work.

It is important to note that Mr President and I share the view on the considerable progress achieved across the entire spectrum of our bilateral relations in recent years. Russia-China relations serve as a prime example of how interstate communication should be conducted in the 21st century — based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and respect for each party’s interests and sovereignty, and without being directed against any third party.

Our governments continue to coordinate closely and undertake systematic measures to enhance the financial and technological independence of our cooperation.

📈 As I have mentioned, last year mutual trade set a new record: $244.9 billion. Of course, this is not the limit, and our daily work to preserve this positive trend and implement joint projects will continue. The portfolio of the intergovernmental investment commission already includes 86 projects worth more than $200 billion.

Today we will sign an updated version of the intergovernmental agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investment, which, I believe, will have a positive impact on developing a more favourable business environment and enhancing our economic cooperation.

Our relations are driven by the energy sector. In 2024, Russia not only became the leading supplier of oil to China, but also ranked first in pipeline gas deliveries. Furthermore, we became the second-largest supplier of coal exports and ranked third in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to the Chinese market.

Several new joint initiatives are underway, such as the Far Eastern Gas Route, scheduled to launch in 2027, which will ensure the annual delivery of up to 10 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Chinese consumers.

Russian-designed nuclear power plants are being constructed in China in line with agreed timelines. In recent years, the Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum has become a key platform for advancing industry cooperation, the seventh forum set to take place in China later this year.

Comprehensive cooperation in industry and high technologies is also advancing. Russia has become the number one importer of Chinese cars in the world. We also welcome the launch of production facilities and the transfer of Chinese industrial competencies to our country.

Active mutual trade in agricultural products has become a key contributor to ensuring food security in Russia and China. On our part, we are ready to expand the range of Russian agricultural exports to the Chinese market.

<...>

Following the talks, we will adopt an entire package of joint documents promoting cooperation in specific areas. The joint top-level statement, largely inspired by the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the strong bond between generations, will become the main final document. We can see this generational bond not only in the historical memory and patriotic education but also in the context of preventing the revival of Nazism and militarism, or the revision of the outcomes of World War II.

As we face a complicated geopolitical situation and global uncertainty, Russia-China ties remain a crucial stabilising factor on the international stage.

🌐 We advocate together for a more just and democratic multipolar world order grounded in international law and the central role of the UN in global affairs.
