Another point. Will Merz keep his word? No idea! For years, Friedrich Merz and the CDU have criticised the previous government for not providing enough military aid, and rightly so in some cases. Now that he is in power and no longer provides information about military aid, it will no longer really be possible to verify whether he is actually doing more than Scholz, or whether it was and is all PR fog and propaganda for the election campaign.

In principle, as it is the case in France, he could keep making magnificent statements, but in reality he could reduce military aid and nobody would notice unless the Ukrainian government talks about it (which they won't), or it gets leaked to the media.

I see this as a massive problem, especially given the recent statement of the new Foreign Minister, who said on TV that the new German government will not do more in terms of military aid than the former German government.

One last point. Fake news and propaganda. When the new government doesn't disclose its military aid in rough numbers anymore, we can't combat (pro-Russian) propaganda (also in Germany) anymore.

How on earth should we now prove that Germany is actually doing something for Ukraine, or that we have provided Ukraine with close to €48 billion in assistance and not the €200 billion some East German Putin fan claims when he talks about how damaged our economy and country is, but we are spending hundreds of billions on an already lost war. You get what I mean.

Thanks to anyone who has actually read that far. I apologize for the long text guys, but I feel like 90% of all people have an entirely wrong impression of transparency and what the changes mean for Germany and Ukraine.

It looks like I need to clear up a few false assumptions that have developed in connection with the decision to not disclose Germany's military aid to Ukraine in the future anymore.

1) That means the Taurus is coming!
Wrong. This decision has nothing to do with Taurus. I know numerous examples in which the former government has either financed or already delivered equipment that was never made public (for example, at the request of the end customer in Ukraine) or assistance was at least announced but never included in the official list of the federal government.

The new government under Merz could have handled a Taurus delivery in exactly the same way — without any problems. Simply not announce it and that's that.

You don't have to reduce transparency to zero in order to hide a delivery. When a delivery has happened, we will know it anyways due to Ukrainian attacks on targets which haven't been attacked before or due to previously unknown efficiency in combating various targets like storage places, factories and more.

2) That ends debates!
This assumption is also wrong. I don't know what makes people think that, but of course it won't end any debates. In my opinion, it could rather ensure that there are more debates.

On the one hand, I would like to point out once again that debates about the undisclosed military support from Germany were the reason why the military aid was made public in the first place. Merz and his CDU were also (rightfully) involved in early 2022.

On the other hand, that would mean that the people, the media and political opponents would muzzle themselves. Just because Merz decides not to respond to it anymore, news media X, Y, Z will decide to never write another article about German military aid? Or opposition politicians Müller, Meier, Schmitt won't talk about German aid anymore because of that? What kind of logic is that?

This decision will and should not end debates, regardless of what the new government claims.

3) We informed the Russians too much!
That could well be true. I agree. However, I would like to point out that even before the change of government (and also before the election in February), the old government had already switched from providing information about military aid once a week to every four or five weeks.

Four or five weeks is more than enough time to bring equipment to Ukraine and distribute it to the units. The Russians are aware of what is being deployed on the battlefield. It is also very likely that Russia will notice when a train with 20, 30 or 50 armoured vehicles arrives at the border, even without the German government's website.

I agree that too much information has been provided. In my opinion, it would be sufficient to provide limited information once a month. In other words, once a month, provide information with rough quantities about aid that already has been delivered. Also don't publicly announce new assistance anymore which hasn't been delivered yet.

That would be the golden path for me. For the most part, I just see disadvantages in the decision not to provide any more information at all.

Just as the previous transparency in combination with the help actually provided (and my work 😝) has ensured that Germany's image has continued to improve over time and is now considered a very reliable and of the best partners Ukraine has, this will now ensure that Germany's image will be damaged over time.

This also brings me to the next point. Transparency also helps to expose the “foul play” of other countries. I'm sure that the German transparency helped many people to realise how little France for example is actually doing for Ukraine in comparison, despite all the PR campaigns that Macron regularly launches.

Well, now it's official. The new German government just deleted their official list of military aid provided to Ukraine which it had maintained since mid-2022. The English version is still online, but I assume it will also be deleted in a few minutes.

As recently as Monday, a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defence announced that the government would continue to announce what it supplies to Ukraine. However, details such as quantities will no longer be announced. Well...

In July 2022, Germany pledged six HEP 70 mobile decontamination vehicles including decontamination material from Bundeswehr stocks worth over €860,000 to Ukraine. After almost three years, I've now seen footage from Ukraine for the first time!

As always, I wanted to provide you with a full translation for the video. The decontamination systems are in service with the 704th CBRN Brigade of the Support Forces, which has shared this video three weeks ago.

Yesterday, UDI and Rheinmetall signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation on the possibility of establishing another joint venture in the field of artillery production in Ukraine.

Already in February 2024, both companies signed a first Memorandum of Understanding with the goal of establishing a joint venture for the production of artillery shells in Ukraine. The plan is to start operations in 2026 and produce significantly more than 150,000 155mm artillery shells per year.

Just two addendums. Firstly, the “long-range artillery rockets” should be GMLRS with a range of up to 84 kilometres, as I wouldn't consider the German M26 (AT2) rockets “long-range”, as they “only” have a range of up to 38 kilometres.

Secondly, the delivery timeframe. As we are talking about existing Bundeswehr stocks and only about ammunition, we do not need to wait for the industry to produce them or a training to be carried out. A delivery to Ukraine should therefore be made within a few weeks.

Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said at today's government press conference that Germany is prepared to support Ukraine in the area of “long-range fires”, i.e. cruise missiles with a certain range. Decisions on this will be prepared and made in the coming days.

More than two weeks ago, a larger column of at least 18 Cheetah SPAAGs without insignia was spotted by one of my followers in Eastern Germany. It can be assumed that the train was travelling eastwards to Ukraine.

Up to 60 Cheetah SPAAGs were bought back from Jordan by the US (up to 45) and Germany (15). However, the at least 18 SPAAGs visible in the images exceed the remaining pledges made by Germany, so in my opinion this should either be a mixed delivery (Germany & US) or a pure US delivery.

OPSEC disclaimer: I waited more than two full weeks before publishing the images to preserve OPSEC. This is more than enough time to bring the equipment to Ukraine, distribute it to the units and for them to be already using the equipment.

I also want to point out, that Gepard SPAAGs and Cheetah SPAAGs are being used far away from the front line to defend cities, military installations and critical infrastructure throughout the whole country. I'm also not going to share where in East Germany the images were taken.

The New York Times reports, with reference to a US congressional source, that the USA has authorised the transfer of 125 long-range artillery rockets (for MARS II, M142 HIMARS etc.) and 100 Patriot interceptors from Germany to Ukraine.

Only recently, at a meeting in Brussels, Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius announced that 30 Patriot missiles from Bundeswehr stocks would be made available to Ukraine at short notice.

As part of a project of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), which is funded by the German government, Teltow has provided its twin city Khotyn with a double-cab truck with a trailer, a scissor lift & battery-powered tools with a total value of ~ €55,000.
