Afghans stream into Germany via the Tajik embassy - Baerbock rejoices🔥
The Foreign Office has refused to respond to an alarm call from the German embassy in Tajikistan. In a letter, the diplomats there had warned that 12,000 Afghans living in the country wanted to apply for visas for Germany because they had allegedly supported the Bundeswehr in its deployment in the Hindu Kush as local staff. Germany has already flown in 35,000 such Afghans and has given written confirmations for 12,000 more. The number is multiplied by the relatives that each local staff member can bring to Germany as part of family reunification. These relatives are not yet included in the figures.
The embassy in Dushanbe is completely overwhelmed, according to the letter dated February 13, 2025, which Business Insider reports on. The authenticity of the documents could not be verified due to the sheer volume - and also because no employee understands the national languages of Afghanistan. Background: Since the German embassy in Pakistan, which has so far issued visas as part of the federal admission program initiated by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens), is completely overloaded, the Afghans, NGOs and associations pleaded for the German representation in Tajikistan to help out. The Foreign Office complied.
But the diplomats there see another problem. Since Afghans are allowed to come to Tajikistan without a passport, "it cannot be checked whether a person actually lives in Tajikistan after their official entry or continues to have their habitual residence in Afghanistan". There is also a lack of "the necessary background knowledge on known Taliban members or other members of terrorist organizations".
The embassy therefore asked Baerbock's ministry that applications from Afghans should "in principle" not be accepted in Dushanbe, "even if they have moved their place of habitual residence to Tajikistan to submit the application". In the past, the Foreign Office had strongly urged the German Embassy in Islamabad to issue visas to Afghans with forged documents. That is why the public prosecutors in Cottbus and Berlin are now investigating the officials.
