Anarchist Alexander Snezhkov has been in hole for over 58 days

Disturbing news continues to come from Penal Colony No. 10 (IK-10) in Krasnokamensk, Zabaykalsky Krai, where one of the defendants in the “Chita anarchists’ case,” Alexander Snezhkov, is imprisoned. Since the third decade of February and up until today—over 58 days now—he has been held in hole (SHIZO, a punitive isolation ward). And this is not the limit, as the colony staff have reportedly told him. According to them, Alexander is “a very interesting character and not the kind of person he wants to appear to be.” Apparently, Sasha is not destined to be just an average person quietly serving his time.

For the first few weeks in SHIZO, Alexander was kept in complete isolation. Later, another inmate joined him—someone decent and interesting to talk to. This significantly improves Alexander’s experience in SHIZO.

The support group for the Chita anarchists believes that the administration of IK-10 is carrying out an order from the FSB to exert pressure on Alexander. He is not being allowed to adjust peacefully to life in the colony; every effort is being made to make his stay there harder. By fabricating more reports of alleged "violations" and continuing to keep the anarchist in SHIZO, the administration is doing everything to have Alexander transferred to SUS (Strict Detention Conditions), the harshest regime in a general-regime colony.

We call on everyone to write letters to Alexander and send photographs. These greatly support him and help him withstand the pressure from the prison administration.

Mailing address:

Help the Defendants in the "Tyumen Case" Pay for Their Legal Defense

Friends, the "Tyumen Case" has been under trial at the Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg since June of last year. So far, there have already been 23 hearings! As of today, two hearings are scheduled for March and five for April.

In February, donations—including proceeds from merchandise sales and assistance from charitable organizations—amounted to 147,450 ₽. Thank you, dear comrades! Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to raise this amount.

❗️Currently, 345,000 ₽ remain in the collection fund, but with five hearings scheduled for April, this amount is not enough to pay for legal defense next month. We are in critical need of your help!

💥 In April, legal expenses will be at least 620,000 ₽, including 515,000 ₽ in fees for four lawyers for five court days and 105,000 ₽ for housing and travel expenses.

❗️To recap, from August 30 to September 1, 2022, six anarchists and antifascists were detained in Surgut, Yekaterinburg, and Tyumen. They were subjected to horrific torture—electric shocks, water torture, beatings, and threats of sexual violence. Under such extreme duress, they were forced to give confessions, which led to accusations of "creating and participating in a terrorist organization" . Later, the they were charged with even more serious statutes.

Kirill Brik, who agreed to a plea deal, has already been sentenced to 8 years in prison. The other defendants maintain their innocence. If convicted, they face sentences ranging from 15 to 30 years, while Nikita Oleynik, accused as the "organizer," faces a life sentence.
Additionally, the case against Roma Paklin has been reopened and is being tried separately from the other defendants.

Currently, we are funding the legal work of five lawyers defending Nikita Oleynik, Yuri Neznamov, Daniil Chertykov, Deniz Aydin, and Roman Paklin.

❗️In addition to covering court appearances, we also have to pay for lawyers’ travel expenses, prison visits, housing, and tickets, as they come from different cities while the trial takes place in Yekaterinburg.

✊ Please support our fundraiser with any amount you can afford! We can't do this without you!

🤝 Thank you, friends! With your help, we have been able to cover our comrades' legal fees for over two years. Now, we urgently need your support again. We are fighting desperately for our comrades’ freedom, even though, for many, the outcome of this battle seems predetermined.
We believe that the court cannot simply ignore the overwhelming evidence proving the innocence of those accused in this torture-based "Tyumen Case." We hope that we have even a small chance to change our friends’ fate—but without skilled lawyers, we won’t stand a chance.

Please help us pay for their legal defense!

Anarchist Black Cross Moscow launches a Telegram channel

Hi, this is Anarchist Black Cross Moscow. Our group has been helping imprisoned anarchists, anti-fascists and their allies since 2003. Now we are facing a level of repression against members and participants of the anarchist and anti-fascist movements unprecedented in Russia's recent history. We can oppose the repression they want to shut our mouths with by standing in solidarity with our imprisoned comrades and comrades-in-arms.

In this channel we will highlight the repression of anti-authoritarians and how we can support our comrades and comrades in captivity.

The most basic form of support is to write to our comrades. We publish lists of addresses of political prisoners so that any sympathiser can correspond with them. Note that as a rule, letters should be written in Russian — you may use online translation tools for that. In addition, we have a fund from which we allocate funds for material support and legal defence; the fund also finances the sending of literature to prisoners.

We not only respond to the most blatant attacks on our freedom, but also disseminate our views on what should be an alternative to the police-prison system. We try to pre-emptively counter repression by spreading information about proper behaviour during arrest, interrogation and other similar situations.

Wish Anarchist Azat Miftakhov a Happy Birthday!

Azat Miftakhov is an anarchist and mathematician who is currently serving his second consecutive sentence on politically motivated charges. For many, he has become a symbol of resilience.

On September 4, 2023, Azat Miftakhov was detained immediately upon release from Penal Colony No. 17 in Omutninsk, Kirov Region, where he had just finished serving a sentence for allegedly breaking a window at the office of the ruling United Russia party.

The new prosecution for "justifying terrorism" was based on comments that Azat allegedly made about anarchist Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who carried out a suicide bombing at the FSB office in Arkhangelsk. The evidence against Azat came from prisoners and a prison staff member. On March 28, 2024, Azat was sentenced to four more years in prison, with 2 years and 6 months to be served in a high-security prison, and the rest in a strict-regime penal colony.

As if imprisoning an anarchist wasn’t enough, authorities in Moscow’s Butyrka detention center orchestrated his transfer to the "outcast" caste within the prison hierarchy by using inmates under their control. However, this did not break him, especially since all forms of discrimination and social hierarchies contradict the ideals of anarchy.

On March 21, Azat Miftakhov turns 32. This will be his seventh birthday behind bars. You can support him with a letter or a greeting card.

“They oppress me, yet I don’t broke” - Victor Filinkov did not plead guilty under torture for the “Network” case and was sent to prison for seven years, now he explores Chat GPT at large

In 2018 Victor Filinkov was a 23-year old programmer and a left-wing activist. Suddenly he became the suspect of the “Network” case - young people from Penza, Moscow and other cities allegedly created a terrorist organization.

Three people were judged in Saint Petersburg: Igor Shishkin pled guilty and was released in July 2021, Yulian Boyarshinov did the same and got out of jail in April 2023. Victor Filinkov insisted on his innocence, reported to have been tortured and was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment in a colony. His sentence lapsed only at the end of January 2025.

”Paper” was the first one to ask Viktor main questions: about the “Networks” case and the accomplices’ testimony, about night shifts in the colony and sewing lessons in a solitary confinement, about detainee-deserters and authority among the prison guards, about first days at large and about broken health.

Title photo was provided by Victor’s friends.

«They brought me across the border and said: “That’s it, now get out” - about the release and deportation to Kazakhstan.»

- You were deported to Kazakhstan (Victor has a citizenship of Kazakhstan). Tell us how you were freed.

I had the same main part of release as everybody else: the prison’s special department forces came in and I signed for receiving the documents (of course, no one got their documents, usually they are given at the border control checkpoint). Then we waited for various officers to let me go through the border control checkpoint. It all took around 5 hours. Meanwhile (my wife) Zhenya got to me.

They did not give me documents at the border checkpoint. They were given to the operative security officers. There were 3 cops with me: a cop-driver, a convoy-cop and a cop from Migration Service. All of them were from different departments, they were banded into one posse just to deport someone. All four of us got into the Lada Vesta and set off: I was clenched between two cops on the backseat, and the driver was sitting on the front seat.

Even before that, girls passed me ice cream, a pie and a curd snack - but I could not eat everything right away as I was handcuffed and buckled to the convoy-cop with a rope.

- So did they let you go only at the border?

Yes, together with the cops I reached the border. They unfastened me, brought me across the border and said: That’s it, now get out”. I went further to the Kazakhstan border and waited for the girls.

Then I spoke to our Kazakh officers. I did not have any documents and it raised some obvious questions.

- And where were the documents?

Documents did not exist at all, except for the paper that Zhenya got in the Astrakhan’s Kazakhstan border consulate - it was the so-called certificate of return.

If Zhenya had not gotten that document, I would have been put in a deportation prison and kept there while the consulate processed my documents.

- I know there were concerns that they will not release you. Did security forces visit you before the end of a prison term?

No! I dodged a bullet, unlike Azat Miftakhov - a Moscow mathematician, who was found guilty in 2021 of allegedly attacking the “United Russia” office building, and in 2023 he was arrested immediately after being released from prison on a new criminal case of justifying terrorism).

The closer was the end of the prison term, the more afraid I became of them trumping-up a new case on me - because it was fairly easy to do, especially in terms of prison. But it turned out just right.

Wish Anarchist Andrey Chernov a Happy Birthday!

Andrey Chernov is an anarchist, antifascist, and vegan. Before his arrest, he lived in Penza. He participated in the Food Not Bombs, organized free markets, and took part in the No surrender anti-fascist mixed martial arts tournament.

In 2017, Andrey became a defendant in a fabricated case about a "terrorist organization," known as the "Network Case." At that time, six people were arrested in Penza — some had weapons and explosives planted on them. FSB officers beat and tortured the detainees, attaching electrodes to different parts of their bodies and passing electric currents through them. During these tortures, the security forces forced the young men to memorize statements dictated by the FSB, claiming they had created and were part of the "Network" terrorist organization.

Andrey was sentenced to 14 years in a high-security prison on charges of participating in a terrorist organization and attempting to distribute large quantities of drugs.

💌 On March 18, Andrey Chernov will spend yet another birthday in prison. You can support him with a letter or a postcard.

Outside prison, Andrey was also passionate about rock music, programming, and Muay Thai. He participated in competitions and won prizes.

❗️ Please note that the number of parcels and packages an inmate can receive is strictly limited, so ensure that all your shipments are classified as letters only.

Anarchist Alexander Snezhkov's Solitary Confinement Extended to 28 Days

The administration of Penal Colony No. 10 (IK-10) in Krasnokamensk continues to pressure anti-fascist Alexander Snezhkov. He was supposed to be released from the hole (SHIZO) on March 6, but instead, his confinement was extended for another 14 days. The justification given by IK-10 staff was that Snezhkov was sitting on the floor of his SHIZO cell.

However, the internal regulations do not prohibit sitting on the floor.

Snezhkov was first placed in the hole immediately upon arriving at the colony. The administration claimed that he violated the rules by not introducing himself. However, at that time, he had not yet been informed of the colony’s regulations. Despite this, he was given almost the maximum possible punishment—14 days out of a possible 15.

While demanding adherence to the rules from Alexander, the administration itself violates them. Despite the 15-day limit for confinement in the hole, Snezhkov will now be in isolation for a continuous 28 days.

These actions suggest that the administration intends to classify the anarchist as a “persistent regime violator” and transfer him to stricter detention conditions (SUS). Snezhkov himself believes this is the case and suspects that an informal reason for the repression is the presence of "terrorist" and "extremist" charges in his sentence.

Due to this, he has also been placed on a preventive watch list as a person "prone to committing terrorist and extremist offenses."

In the hole, Alexander spends 23 hours a day in a cramped cell, deprived of packages, visits, and the ability to buy goods from the prison store.

In April 2024, then-20-year-old Alexander Snezhkov and 17-year-old Lyubov Lizunova were sentenced to real prison terms for graffiti reading "Death to the Regime" and for managing anarchist Telegram channels. Lizunova received 3.5 years in prison, while Snezhkov was sentenced to 6 years (later reduced by 2 months).

✊💌 Support Alexander with a letter! Write to him to let him know he is not alone and that people are following his situation. In prison, every letter is a breath of freedom.

18-year-old anarchist Lyubov Lizunova transferred to a prison colony in Tomsk

On February 14, Lyubov Lizunova, a defendant in the Chita Anarchists' Case, was taken out of Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 1 in Chita in Russian Far East. The three-week transfer route passed through Irkutsk and Mariinsk in the Kemerovo region of Siberia. On March 2, Lyubov informed her parents that she had arrived at the juvenile correctional colony in Tomsk.

TVK-2 is currently the only prison colony for underage girls. By law, inmates can be held there until the age of 19.

During the transfer, Lyuba read a lot, interacted with fellow travelers, and recited her poems from memory, which many of them liked. According to her parents, one of the guards had long conversations with her, read about her on the internet, asked her to read her poems, and even cried when she did.

From Chita to Mariinsk, Lizunova was transported in a "Stolypin" train car, and from Mariinsk to Tomsk in a prison van. The conditions were not the best, but Lyuba remained positive, finding good even in such a journey. She was glad to see the beauty of Lake Baikal, forests, and fields — even if just through the window of the train car.

Currently, Lyubov is in quarantine. With some free time on her hands, she draws a lot and reads Jane Austen and Charlotte Brontë. Despite her surroundings, she tries to stay strong and not lose hope.

In April 2024, then 17-year-old Lyubov Lizunova and 20-year-old Alexander Snezhkov were sentenced to prison terms for graffiti reading "Death to the Regime" and for administering anarchist Telegram channels. Lizunova was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, and Snezhkov to 6 years (his sentence was later reduced by 2 months).
