In honor of Asian and Pacific Islander History month in the U.S., we're highlighting some notable folk of AAPI heritage in the Wild West. First on the list is Jim Sam, aka Shoot 'Em Down Sam, the most well known of the Chinese cowboys.
Coming from China to the US in 1859, Jim Sam started his legacy as a cowboy in Nicasio, CA for 30+ years, riding his notable white horse for several ranchers, before moving to Point Reyes in 1890 and becoming an expert gambler, occasionally running the hotel he gambled at while the owner was away. He was beloved by all, except the folks whose money he took!

Good Thor's Day and Blessed Beltane.
How good, how right, how poetic it is that the great and ancient Celtic fire festival of Beltane, celebrating the druidic solar god Belanus, should coincide with International Worker's Day, which commemorates the infamous Haymarket Riot of 1887. May the fire of Belanus bless the workers of the world, and may we never forget the riot fire that brought us the rights we have today. May it burn ever present in our hearts until the work is done.
