The Bible is a book of redemption. It is the story of the Creator and His creation; it tells of the battle of the ages, but it also tells of an everlasting love story between Christ and His Church, the Bridegroom and His Bride ~ the Bride and her Beloved.
The Bride is being made beautiful for her Groom, for she has been chosen by the Father to be His child and joint~heir with His beloved Son. She has been stripped of her rags and clothed in the robes of Christ's righteousness. She glows with the reflected glory of the Son of God, and the fragrance of her perfumed graces has been poured out liberally over her head by the Spirit of all grace. She is also to be adorned with a crown of rejoicing and the eternal, incorruptible crown of glory which never fades away.
Today the Bride has little strength, but her joy and might is in the Lord. His left hand supports her head and keeps her from falling, for in Him she has the mind of Christ, and through Him she can do all things, for He is her succour and support and His grace is always sufficient. His right hand of love and grace tenderly embraces His Bride.
By Him His Bride has all things richly to enjoy, and He has promised never to leave or forsake her, but for now she must make herself ready as she passes through a world of pain and suffering, ever looking for the day when Her Bridegroom will come to claim her as His own. Christ loves the Church and gave Himself for her ~ but this is a great mystery.
Before the world was created, the plans of God for Christ and His Bride were formed in the Father~heart of the Creator. Christ's earthly ministry, His sacrificial gift on Calvary, the establishment of the Church, which is His Body, Her future role as Bride of the King in the coming kingdom of Christ, and her elevated position in the eternal ages to come "when she will show forth God’s gracious love to principalities and powers for evermore," were all part of God's eternal plan for her.
No wonder the Church has a special place in the heart of God.
Dear Father, thank You that we can come close to You, knowing that the barrier of sin has been removed. Thank You that You give us true rest for our soul and perfect peace in our heart, and that in the midst of any storm, Your peace that passes human understanding remains. Look with mercy on those who have not yet come to you for salvation. Convict their hearts of their need to come to You and trust in Your redemptive blood for the forgiveness of sin. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
The heavy yoke of bondage to sin is a weighty burden we all have to carry on the treadmill of life, which causes physical weariness, spiritual fatigue, and emotional exhaustion. But Christ’s invitation: "Come to Me all you who labour and are heavy laden," brings rest to the weary, comfort for the hurting, solace to the heavily laden, and rest for the soul.
Although this gracious invitation to 'come' in the Gospel of Matthew, is offered to all people, it was initially given by Jesus to Israel. He was born of a Jewish virgin into the Jewish race, as foretold by Jewish prophets. He was the Jewish Messiah Who was born of the royal line of Israel's great king David. He came to the lost sheep of the house of Israel in fulfilment of Scripture, calling the entire nation to repent of their sin, return to the Lord, and trust Him as Saviour.
However, this offer was made to an unresponsive and unrepentant generation, who were more interested in their temporal needs being met than their spiritual needs. Jesus presented His faultless, Messianic credentials which were authenticated by His mighty signs and wonders, but His offer was refused. He was despised by men, hated by the Jewish leaders, and rejected by those He came to save.
Israel did not recognise the time of their visitation, and Jesus reached a point in His ministry when He transferred His attention from the nation as a whole, to individuals who believed in Him. They were called to separate themselves from national Israel and follow Him.
This is possibly the pivotal point when Christ's Messianic offer to the lost sheep of the whole house of Israel changed, to a call for individual believers to COME. This was the time Jesus stopped offering the kingdom to national Israel, began to teach in parables, and started to turn his undivided attention to believing individuals who laboured and were heavy laden, and invited them to come to Him for rest.
Jesus is the well~spring of Life and the Light that has come into the world to give hope to all who will trust on His name for salvation, and His invitation to 'COME' is for whosoever will. Christ alone is the One Who can heal the hurting, rescue the perishing, and save a sinner from eternal separation from our Heavenly Father; for there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved.
Jesus came to show us the Father, for He is the incarnate God, and the one who has seen the Son has seen the Father. Those who know the Son, know the Father. He shines forth the radiance of the glory of God, for He is the exact image of the essence of God and upholds all things by the word of His power. He is the visible representation of the glorious, eternal, invisible God, who has invited us all to COME.
The invitation to 'come' is from Jesus and contains no limitations or restrictions. He will turn no one away. There is no need to stand afar off because Christ calls ALL to draw close to Him. He alone can lift the heavy yoke of bondage to sin which weighs down the burdened heart. He alone can heal the broken~hearted, rescue those that are perishing, and set the captive free from the weighty burden of sin. And His invitation is open to ALL who will believe on His name.
'Come To Me' is an invitation for the broken~hearted soul and burdened sinner. Come, just as you are and I will give you rest. This promise of rest that Jesus offers is a rest that He freely gives to all who will come to Him for salvation. The rest that Christ gives, is an eternal rest beyond our understanding that can never be earned or purchased. The rest He offers, is freely available as God’s gift of grace to whosoever will COME. "Come to Me, ALL who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
The prayer of all prayers was prayed by the Lord Jesus as the pivotal hour in the history of the ages had finally arrived. The moment, which was planned in eternity past and towards which every step of Christ's earthly pathway had been progressing, had finally arrived. The Cross, where the blood of the eternal Son of God made Man, had reached its terminus.
The Lord Jesus lived His life following God's divine timetable. Every day in His life was planned and prepared by the Father. Every meeting and every conversation was guided by the Spirit of God. Every act and action, every temptation and trial, every pain, and every prayer, was preparing Him for this ultimate hour, without which the sins of the world could never have been forgiven and salvation could never have been procured. The Lord Jesus lived a life that from beginning to end cried: "Thy will be done."
Christ had glorified God throughout His life, by His miracles, by His ministry, by His grace, by living in humble obedience to the Father, and by submitting to the power of the Spirit, for He had laid aside His pre~incarnate glory. And as He faced the Cross, He prayed that His glory that was set aside to do the Father's will, would be restored. He prayed that the eternal glory He had with God the Father before the world began, would be returned to Him so that He might glorify His Father in heaven.
Christ's sacrifice on the Cross had to come before His resurrected glory. The Cross had to precede the Crown for you and me to be redeemed. Let us seek to follow in the steps of the Master and embrace the Cross for His name's sake so that in the ages to come we may share in His glory.
God bless you all.

How to Hear the Voice of the Lord
Romans 10:17 Hebrews 3:15 John 8:47 Isaiah 30:26 John 5:25 Hebrews 4:7 Revelation 3:20 Genesis 3:8 John 10:27 Job 33:14 Psalm 85:8 John 10:2-4 Hebrews 1:1-2 Revelation 3:22 John 5:30 Ezekiel 3:10-11 Deuteronomy 4:12 1 John 5:14 Psalm 5:3 1 Peter 3:12 John 9:1 Psalm 34:15 Isaiah 55:11 Jeremiah 33:3 Mark 4:24-25 Jeremiah 29:11 Psalm 40:1 Psalm 29:3 Isaiah 41:13 John 17:17
In Phoenix, Arizona, a 26-year-old mother stared down at her son who was dying of terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled with sadness, she also had a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent she wanted her son to grow up and fulfill all his dreams. Now that was no longer possible. The leukemia would see to that. But she still wanted her son's dreams to come true. She took her son's hand and asked, "Billy, did you ever think about what you wanted to be once you grew up? Did you ever dream and wish what you would do with your life?" "Mommy, I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up." Mom smiled back and said, "Let's see if we can make your wish come true." Later that day she went to her local fire department in Phoenix, Arizona, where she met Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix.
She explained her son's final wish and asked if it might be possible to give her six-year-old son a ride around the block on a fire engine. Fireman Bob said, "Look, we can do better than that. If you'll have your son ready at seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an honorary fireman for the whole day. He can come down to the fire station, eat with us, go out all the fire calls, the whole nine yards! "And if you'll give us his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform for him, with a real fire hat-not a toy one-with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots. They're all manufactured right here in Phoenix, so we can get them fast."
Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy, dressed him in his fire uniform and escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck. Billy got to sit on the back of the truck and help steer it back to the fire station. He was in heaven. There were three fire calls in Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all three calls. He rode in the different fire engines, the paramedic's van, and even the fire chief's car. He was also videotaped for the local news program. Having his dream come true, with all the love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply touched Billy that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought possible.
One night all of his vital signs began to drop dramatically and the head nurse, who believed in the hospice concept that no one should die alone, began to call the family members to the hospital. Then she remembered the day Billy had spent as a fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and asked if it would be possible to send a fireman in uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition. The chief replied, "We can do better than that. We'll be there in five minutes. Will you please do me a favor? When you hear the sirens screaming and see the lights flashing, will you announce over the PA system that there is not a fire? It's just the fire department coming to see one of its finest members one more time. And will you open the window to his room?"
About five minutes later a hook and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to Billy's third floor open window. 16 firefighters climbed up the ladder into Billy's room. With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they loved him.
With his dying breath, Billy looked up at the fire chief and said, Chief, am I really a fireman now?" Billy, you are, and the Head Chief, Jesus, is holding your hand," the chief said. With those words, Billy smiled and said, "I know, He's been holding my hand all day, and the angels have been singing." He closed his eyes one last time.
"How does the God of the universe demonstrate infinite love? By allowing man to get in a predicament that only God's death could solve" ~ Chuck Missler
Being saved by grace through faith in Christ, unlocks the door to a myriad of blessings for each believer. Sometimes we are unaware of the abundant blessings that have become ours at the point of our salvation and sometimes it takes time to become aware of all the gifts of grace that have been bountifully bestowed upon us, in Christ Jesus. One of the many important free gifts of God's grace to all believers is that we are justified, we are made right with God, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul's logical discourse through the early chapters of Romans leaves no one in any doubt that they are a sinner and at enmity with God. Sin separated us from God and the wrath of God is on everything that is sinful, including sinners. They are guilty before God, and therefore eternally separated from their Creator and all that is good, for the wages of sin is death.
But accompanying this devastating knowledge is a glorious truth: that the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We are justified by faith. We are made righteous by faith. We have peace with God by faith, which means that instead of being at enmity with God through sin, we are at peace with God through faith in Christ. Instead of being eternally separated from God by sin, we have been placed in eternal union with Him, by faith in Christ.
Every person who has accepted the free gift of salvation through the shed blood of Christ has peace with God from the moment of salvation and continuing for the whole of their life. However, the peace of God is a state that can change throughout a believer's life. It is dependent on actively walking in the Spirit, and placing their trust in God, moment by moment. Paul explains how we can experience the peace of God: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Isaiah also reiterates this: "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."
How wonderful that we can have both peace with God and the peace of God as we walk through this life that can be full of strife, discord, and unrest.
Our Father in heaven has a wondrous array of divine qualities, eternal attributes, and godly characteristics that rejoice our heart and calm our soul, but perhaps one of His essential elements is that He is our God of all comfort; our Source of all consolation.
He Who walked this earth and Who learned obedience by the things that He Himself suffered, is more than adequate to identify with our hurt and pain and to empathise with our sorrow and suffering. Oh yes, He is more than equipped to comfort us in all our afflictions.
And yet there is a deeper meaning, a wider purpose, and a greater reason that our Father of mercies, and God of all comfort condescends to stoop down and comfort us in our affliction and to console us in our miseries. He has purposed that we who are comforted of Him, may be ready and equipped to comfort and succour all those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort and consolation that we ourselves have received from our Heavenly Father.
Let us go to the Lord for our comfort and rest, and after being filled up with His love, may His love and comfort overflow from us to those around us. What a blessing from our Lord, our Comforter.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
God bless you all.
