Taxpayers Against Genocide (TAG), a nongovernmental grassroots mass movement comprised of more than U.S. 2,000 taxpayers who have been protesting their congressional representatives’ votes to fund Israel’s genocide in Gaza, filed an unprecedented report with the U.N. Human Rights Council on April 7.
“We have gone through all the channels open to us in our effort to stop U.S. officials from using our tax dollars to fund genocide. We have called and met with these officials, we have peacefully protested and we have taken them to federal court. To date, none of this has stopped them,” Seth Donnelly, lead taxpayer plaintiff in the federal lawsuit, told Truthout.
“The genocide in Gaza rages on, fueled by our tax dollars,” he said. “We have now elevated our struggle to the international arena, starting with our report to the U.N. Human Rights Council, as one necessary step towards countering the impunity of the U.S. government.”

From Johnathan Cook: Our politicians have consented to everything Israel has done, and not just in Gaza over the past 18 months. This genocide has been decades in the making.

Three-quarters of a century ago, the West authorised the ethnic cleansing of most of Palestine to create a self-declared Jewish state there. The West consented, too, to the violent occupation of the last sections of Palestine in 1967, and to Israel’s gradual colonisation of those newly seized territories by armed Jewish extremists.

The West nodded through waves of house demolitions carried out against Palestinian communities by Israel to “Judaise” the land. It backed the Israeli army creating extensive “firing zones” on Palestinian farmland to starve traditional agricultural communities of any means of subsistence.

The West ignored Jewish settlers and soldiers destroying Palestinian olive groves, beating up shepherds, torching homes, and murdering families. Even being an Oscar winner offers no immunity from the rampant settler violence.

The West agreed to Israel creating an apartheid road system and a network of checkpoints that kept Palestinians confined to ever-shrinking ghettoes, and building walls around Palestinian areas to permanently isolate them from the rest of the world. It allowed Israel to stop Palestinians from reaching one of their holiest sites, Al-Aqsa Mosque, on land that was supposed to be central to their future state.

The West kept quiet as Israel besieged the two million people of Gaza for 17 years, putting them on a tightly rationed diet so their children would grow ever-more malnourished. It did nothing – except supply more weapons – when the people of Gaza launched a series of non-violent protests at their prison walls around the enclave, and were greeted with Israeli sniper fire that left thousands dead or crippled.

The West only found a collective voice of protest on 7 October 2023, when Hamas managed to find a way to break out of Gaza’s choking isolation to wreak havoc in Israel for 24 hours. It has been raising its voice in horror at the events of that single day ever since, drowning out 18 months of screams from the children being starved and exterminated in Gaza.

The murder of 15 Palestinian medics and aid workers is a tiny drop in an ocean of Israeli criminality – a barbarism rewarded by western capitals decade after decade.

This genocide was made in the West. Israel is our progeny, our ugly reflection in the mirror – which is why western leaders and establishment media are so desperate to make us look the other way. That reflection is too much for anyone with a soul to bear.

“Last week, the Israeli cabinet approved the establishment of "a body to manage voluntary migration [of Palestinians] from Gaza".

This "body" consists of personnel from Israel's ministries of justice, foreign affairs, interior, finance, transportation, and strategic affairs, alongside "representatives from the IDF [Israeli military], the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the National Security Council, and the Israel Police".

The body will also be able to coordinate its activities with international organisations and other parties". Its task will be to "facilitate the controlled movement of Palestinians through Israel for their departure to third countries".

This "voluntary" expulsion of the Palestinian people from their homeland will purportedly be carried out in accordance with "international law".

Offer Cassif, a member of Israel's parliament, the Knesset, compared the new Israeli expulsion committee to the Nazi "Central Bureau for Jewish Emigration", established in August 1938 to encourage Jewish "voluntary" emigration from Nazi Germany and Nazi-annexed Austria.

"The West has developed a perfect cover story for cocooning Israel, its fascist offspring: those who oppose the subjugation and brutalisation of the Palestinian people are denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination. They are thus “antisemites”.

In parallel, any Palestinian who resists subjugation and brutalisation is a terrorist. Ergo, those who ally with Palestinians are in league with terrorists.

In a further leap, because the West has cast Palestinians as part of the Muslim masses of the Arab world – even though there are many Palestinian Christians and Druze – Palestinian resistance to Israeli oppression can be presented as an adjunct of a supposed Islamist threat to the West.

In truth, no Palestinian group is fighting to conquer the West, or to impose sharia law on Europe and the US. Palestinian resistance groups are seeking only to liberate their homeland from decades of colonial oppression and ethnic cleansing.

Predictably, the longer that oppression has continued, with extravagant western backing, the more Palestinians facing Israel’s abuses have been drawn to less accommodationist militant groups, like Hamas, proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK and other countries.

No matter. Israel is presented as a small, heroic nation defending the West from the Muslim hordes. In a narrative that utterly inverts reality, Israel serves as the humanist rampart against Palestinian – and by extension, Muslim – barbarism.

It is this premise that makes it possible for Michael Gove, a former British government minister, to write an article in the midst of Israel’s genocide headlined: “The IDF [Israeli military] should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize”.

It is this premise that allows a respected writer, Howard Jacobson, to demand silence at the killing and maiming of tens of thousands of Palestinian children in Gaza, because speaking in their defence supposedly amounts to a “blood libel” against the Jewish people.

It is this premise that means Melanie Phillips, a journalistic staple of BBC panel shows, can get away with writing: “If you support the Palestinian Arab cause today, you are facilitating deranged and murderous Jew-hatred.”

These are self-pitying, delusional narratives that our European forefathers – plundering Africa of its wealth, enslaving its “savage” peoples or killing millions who refused to accept the West’s civilisational “superiority” – would be only too comfortable espousing.
