PART 3 - EDOMITES/CANAANITES
For the most part this chapter is going to focus on the Bible because the claim that jews are Israelites/God's chosen people is made using parts of the bible and therefore must be examined within that context. This probably should have been the first part, but I decided to focus on their religion as the ethnic component is super freaking obvious. Nonetheless some of y'all still don't get it so here we are.
Some vocab:
Israelite = descended from Jacob (aka Israel) or one of his sons. Jacob had a twin brother named Esau.
Edomite = descended from Esau. It is roughly the same as the Greek word Idumean. Mt Seir is one of the places they lived. When the bible talks about destroying Mt Seir it's talking about killing a bunch of Edomites/destroying their land
Canaanite = an umbrella term used for a bunch of different tribes like the Hittites, the Jebusites, etc. This includes the Phoenicians who were Israelite/Canaanite mixies. Carthage and Tyre were 2 popular Phoenician/Canaanite cities. They were considered the more "civilized" or "capable" group of Canaanites, likely owing to their part-Israelite heritage (yes I'm being racist, no I don't care)
Arab: in Hebrew arav means "mixed" or "to introduce something foreign." In certain contexts it can also mean desert or dark. So it's fair to describe Arab people as "desert people of mixed ethnicity" and the people we call jews certainly fit that description.

Nehemiah chapter 13 is important in general because it talks about how mixing with the Canaanites messed up the Levitical priesthood. Unfortunately it would happen again. This is how the Levitical priesthood fell away and the Pharisaical tradition became the religious authority. It wasn't because the Israelites went, "you know what? We changed our minds. How we have been doing things for generations, how we were ordered by God to do them, it's getting stale. Let's switch it up for funsies." No! It's because they were subverted by the Edomite/Canaanites.
Ezekiel chapter 35 tells us how the Edomites wanted to possess both their own land (Mt Seir) and the land of Israel because they were envious of the Israelites. God says he will punish Mt Seir. What does that mean? It means that they have to move. Where did they go? Likely all over the general area, but we know for sure they ended up in the land of Israel. They made repeated attempts to live in Israel over multiple migrations, but all that's really important for our purposes is that we know they came to possess it by Jesus' time.

In 47 BC Julius Caesar made an Edomite, Antipater of Idumea, Procurator of Judea. He made his son, Herod, governor of Galilee. A few years later, ol' Antipater would get assassinated. Luckily, his son Herod was chummy with Marc Antony and this allowed him to get before the Roman Senate where they proclaimed him king of Judea.

His rule was opposed by the actual JUDAHITE residents of Judea because he was an Edomite. Matthew chapter 23 is incredibly important because it tells us that Pharisees, who were mostly of Edomite stock, seated THEMSELVES at the chair of Moses and were basically going through the motions and pretending to be righteous and pretending to follow the religion. They were engaging in aggressive mimicry like they have always done and continue to do. This is how they survive in the world. In this chapter alone Jesus calls these people fools, blind men, children of hell, snakes and vipers. We learn in Exodus that the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, but hold on. In John 8:33 these Edomite LARPers admit that they were never slaves, which would mean they're not Israelites. 😱 John 8: 39-47 Jesus makes a distinction between Abraham's descendants/God's children and plainly says that Edomite jews belong to the devil. They're. Not. Israelites.
PROPHECIES ABOUT THE ISRAELITES:
Abraham's descendants will be like the number of stars in the sky (Genesis 15) and from him will come many nations and many kings (Genesis 17). He established an everlasting covenant. Then his son Isaac was the heir to this covenant and then Isaac's son Jacob was the heir. To Jacob was promised the dew of heaven (rain, moisture) the fatness of the earth, an abundance of grain and new wine. (Genesis 27) He was also promised that his descendants would spread in every direction (Genesis 28). This is contrasted by Esau's promise which is that he will not inhabit the more fertile areas and will serve his brother Jacob. This is why Edomites were so envious of Israel. In Genesis 49 there are specific prophecies about each of Jacob's sons. Allllll these prophecies about Israelites and the people we call jews fulfill none of them.
As an aside, a note about the Khazars because I see a lot of debates about "they were Edomites, no they were Khazars." It's not mutually exclusive, both are true. They simply mixed with the Khazars later.
