copied from an email I received recently from Stockman Steaks ... ASTOUNDING !!! We have some alarming statistics on food wastage in Australia which may shock you.
How much food are we wasting in Australia?
Australia currently creates more than 7.6 million tonnes of food waste each year. This equates to about 312kg per person. This is enough to fill the Melbourne Cricket Grounds (MCG) nine times. The FIAL (2021). National Food Waste Strategy Feasibility Study showed this is costing the Australian economy over $36.6 billion despite 70 percent being perfectly edible.
We hear so much information about cattle contributing to climate change, but little concerning the fact that around 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food produced but wasted. In Australia, this represents 17.5 million tonnes of CO2 each year, which accounts for about 3% of Australia’s annual greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the FIAL (2021). National Food Waste Strategy Feasibility Study, the majority of food waste in Australia comes from our homes. A whopping 2.5 million tonnes.
We often waste food because of confusion between best-before and use-by dates or because we’re unsure whether leftovers are safe to reheat. As a result, the average Australian household wastes $2,000 to $2,500 per year according to the FIAL (2021). National Food Waste Strategy Feasibility Study.
In fact, households are responsible for around 30% of the total food waste in Australia.
Additional Statistics on Australian Food Wastage
Australia uses around 2,600 gigalitres of water to grow food that is wasted. This is equal to the water in 5 Sydney Harbours.
The amount of land used to grow wasted food in Australia covers more than 25 million hectares. This is a landmass larger than the state of Victoria.
Throwing away one burger wastes the same amount of water as a 90-minute shower.
According to Water Footprint Network resources, wasting food is worse than total emissions from flying (1.9%), plastic production (3.8%) and oil extraction (3.8%).
If food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest emitter of greenhouse gases after USA and China. Source: WRI: World GHG Emissions 016 & https://www.nature.com/articles/s41558-019-0459-z
Eliminating global food waste would save 4.4 million tonnes of C02 a year, the equivalent of taking one in four cars off the road. Source: FAO Food Wastage Report 2013
Why the Major Retailers profit from Food Waste
According to the Report Food Waste in Australia and how supermarkets profit from it, September 18, 2023 by Lilia Anderson, Matt Grudnoff, Tom Hawking and Rod Campbell, Australia wastes 7.6m tonnes of food each year, costing households $19.3 billion.
Based on industry average profit margins, food retailers make $1.2 billion profit from this waste.
This gives the major retailers a strong incentive to resist policy changes that would reduce food waste, such as reform of best-before labels.
Opinion polling for this report shows that a clear majority of Australians support various regulatory reforms to reduce food waste—including, notably, overwhelming support (78%) for reforming use-by and best-before date labelling and 72% support for relaxed cosmetic standards. While there is clear support for regulatory changes, 81% of respondents also see reducing food waste as at least partly the responsibility of individual consumers.

French insurance companies have been caught by Russia participating in the euthanizing of wounded Ukrainian servicemembers, for purposes of removing their organs.
The "consent" for this service is being deceptively obtained via consent-forms typewritten entirely in French, presented to Ukrainians by their unit commanders presented as "health insurance" coverage, but without any translation of the paperwork they were being influenced to sign.

The Serpent & the Poison is part of a 3 part series to be released internationally. Life in the red zone is a feature production within this series.
Chemical giants have coerced governmentsinto creating a red zone around two of Australia’s most fertile and fastest growing cities - Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This red zone is the epicentre for the world's largest chemical distribution programwhich has led to enormous biodiversity loss and the collapse of major ecosystems. The red zone includes ancient rainforests, crucial water supplies, major river systemsand fertile agricultural lands.
This is a David and Goliath battle as residents within the red zone rise to raise alarm bells on the dire consequences thathave been unfolding in the wake of this damaging program. We follow centralcharacters shell shocked after aerialbombing, invasion of rights, poisoning, dismissal, death of loved ones, pets and the decimation of surrounding wildlife and waterways.
The filmmaker, understanding the deep connections in our ecosystems, joins forces alongside the cast of dedicated warriors as they raise the alarm and fight for justice for our living waters.
Anyone who cares for country will want to see this film and change the course of history to stop this program in its tracks before these silent killers make their way through every essence of our environment.

The amount of toxins released are equivalent to 1,000 trucks with poorly tuned diesels driving nonstop for over 10 years, according to reports.
The planet laughs at our stupidity. 🙄
