Jordan Arrests 16 for Plotting Attacks, Missile and Drone Manufacturing

📌 Hamas to Mediators: “Resistance Weapons Are Not Up for Negotiation”

Hamas confirmed its readiness to release Israeli captives, including US dual national Alexander Aidaan, as part of a serious and immediate exchange deal — but only under firm guarantees of a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a total ceasefire. During its visit to Cairo, the movement confirmed to mediators their willingness to discuss a “temporary administration” for Gaza, according to Al-Akhbar sources.

However, Hamas rejected outright any discussion on resistance disarmament, clarifying that it is “an internal Palestinian affair in which no one has the right to interfere,” the delegation reportedly told Egyptian mediators before returning to Doha to review the latest Israeli proposal, the sources added.

Despite this flexibility, “Israel” continues to stall, refusing to offer any clear commitment to end the war. Sources revealed to Al-Akhbar that the Israeli proposal includes a 45-day temporary ceasefire with a total halt to military operations, phased captive exchanges, and humanitarian aid entry. On the first day, Hamas would release Aidaan, followed by five more captives the next day, in exchange for 66 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences and 611 captives from Gaza. The proposal forbids any “public ceremonies or displays” during releases and limits aid delivery to civilians under tight supervision.

In later phases, the plan outlines an Israeli redeployment in Rafah and northern Gaza, with negotiations over what it referred to as the “following day” and the disarmament of resistance factions to pave the way for a permanent ceasefire. On day seven, Hamas would release four more captives in exchange for 54 life-sentenced Palestinian captives and 500 post-October 7 captives. Day 10 would be for a mutual exchange of information on remaining captives, and day 20 would be for exchanging 16 Israeli soldiers’ bodies for 160 Palestinian martyrs.

The proposal stipulates that negotiations will be completed within 45 days, with the movement releasing the remaining prisoners and bodies during this period if an agreement is reached. The deal also includes a clause to extend the temporary truce if both parties agree, with Egypt, Qatar, and the US acting as guarantors.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported that discussions have moved beyond prisoner numbers to Hamas’s demand of a guaranteed end to the war. According to Israeli Kan, “Hamas signaled it could increase the number of captives it releases”, but insists that ending the war is non-negotiable. An Israeli official said that the “Israeli government might be willing to make some concessions," but without abandoning its primary goal of eliminating Hamas, according to Kan.

Hamas leadership sources confirmed to Al-Akhbar that the Egyptian proposal includes a temporary truce and humanitarian aid, but were “shocked” by the explicit clause demanding the disarmament of resistance. Hamas reiterated its stance, saying, “The only gateway to any agreement is an end to the war and full withdrawal,” declaring that resistance weapons are “a fundamental right that is not up for discussion or negotiation.”

📌 Iran-US Talks Resume Amid Regional Tensions and Cautious Optimism

Following the first round of Iran-US indirect negotiations in Muscat—described by both sides as “positive and constructive”—Italian FM, Antonio Tajani, announced that Rome will host the second round, affirming that Italy is “ready to support any diplomatic effort” aimed at resolving the nuclear file and stabilizing the region.

However, Iran expressed reservations about the location. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that Tehran “will decide on the venue after receiving the official position from the Omani side,” adding, “It’s likely to be held outside Oman, but that is not important; what matters is maintaining the format and framework of interaction between Iran and the US.”

Baghaei also announced that Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi will visit Moscow this week to discuss the nuclear file with Russian officials. Meanwhile, a visit to Tehran by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is officially confirmed. US President Donald Trump said a decision on Iran would come “very quickly,” following what both countries described as constructive discussions.

📌 Aoun Reaffirms Dialogue with Hezbollah, Salam Visits Syria

Saudi envoy Yazid bin Farhan’s recent visit to Beirut comes, according to several sources, as a “follow-up” to President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Riyadh in March, where Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had conveyed to his guest his “conditional” support for Lebanon. Bin Farhan, described as holding “one of the country’s control levers,” met with Aoun and other political officials, reportedly to “remind the new Lebanese administration—engineered by Riyadh and Washington—of its obligations, notably regarding the issue of Hezbollah’s disarmament.”

Sources told Al-Akhbar that bin Farhan’s visit was “a continuation of Morgan Ortagus’ tour” and that he reiterated to officials that “maneuvering with the arms dossier is not allowed,” and that there is “no open-ended timeframe.” The Saudi diplomat is said to be evaluating the Lebanese state’s handling of this issue, and military measures south of the Litani and upcoming actions in the north, as well as Aoun’s proposed bilateral dialogue with Hezbollah over disarmament.

While Saudi Arabia and the US are not opposed to dialogue, sources noted both have rejected any long process “on Hezbollah’s own terms.” Bin Farhan also discussed the Lebanese-Syrian relations with Lebanese officials, as Prime Minister Nawaf Salam was visiting Damascus—upon the request of Saudi Arabia—where he met with Syrian Transitional President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. The visit focused on border control, prisoner issues, and bilateral coordination, mirroring Saudi priorities previously discussed with Salam.

After returning from Syria, Salam met with Bin Farhan to brief him on the visit, which focused on “border control, smuggling prevention, land and maritime demarcation, security coordination, and the issue of Syrian detainees,” according to sources close to the PM.

Meanwhile, Aoun told Al Jazeera that “dialogue over exclusive state control of weapons will be bilateral between the presidency and Hezbollah,” assuring that “the decision to limit weapons to the state has been taken, and implementation will come through dialogue rather than by force.” He added that “there are exchanged messages with Hezbollah on this matter,” and called for “a national security strategy that would yield a defense strategy.”

“Hezbollah is aware of Lebanon’s interests and the current regional and international conditions,” Aoun noted. He rejected all talks of normalization, reiterating Lebanon’s commitment to the Beirut Summit and Riyadh Conference decisions. He also confirmed ongoing coordination with Syria on border control, and expressed hope for the formation of border demarcation committees.

France Warns Algeria Over Diplomatic Expulsions

Egypt Raises Fuel Prices to Meet IMF Loan Conditions

Egypt raised fuel prices by 15% for the fourth time this year, in line with conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Petroleum Ministry announced increases in gasoline, diesel, and other energy products. Diesel now costs 15.5 pounds per liter (up from 13.5), while 95-octane gasoline rises to 19 pounds per liter (up from 17).

This price hike follows the IMF’s approval of a $1.2 billion disbursement to Egypt after a review of its economic reforms. The IMF urged Egypt to reduce subsidies, attract private investment, and adopt a more flexible exchange rate while supporting the poorest citizens.

“Israel” has intensified its military operations in Gaza as part of a multi-pronged strategy designed to pressure Hamas into accepting the Witkoff Plan for a prisoner exchange and ceasefire. This approach combines relentless airstrikes with psychological warfare aimed at weakening Hamas’s position and forcing its capitulation.

Central to this strategy are sustained aerial assaults targeting Hamas infrastructure, leadership, and administrative structures, while also deliberately inflicting terror on civilians and depopulating targeted areas. A senior Israeli official, quoted in Hebrew media, stated that Hamas could notify mediators of its acceptance of the plan “within ten minutes,” signaling an immediate end to the operation. If not, he said, pressure would continue and enter a new phase. With the Israeli military not fully prepared for a large-scale ground invasion, airpower remains its primary instrument, supplemented by limited ground incursions.

In parallel, Israeli officials are sending direct threats to Gaza’s population. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz warned civilians of impending evacuations and “greater suffering,” stating that unless Hamas is dismantled and the captives returned, “the alternative is total destruction”. The message is clear: surrender now to avoid occupation—or resist and face permanent consequences.

This strategy includes the use of collective punishment—killings, destruction, starvation—as a means of eroding popular support for Hamas and fostering internal discontent. Israeli sources confirm that future phases of the war will escalate, with broader ground operations anticipated. Officials have also made it clear that any military entry into Gaza will not be temporary. The long-term goal, according to Israeli circles, is to reshape Gaza under a new administrative order, potentially involving moderate Arab actors but excluding both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority from any postwar governance.

Despite these ambitions, the strategy faces mounting obstacles. Armed resistance continues, and the United States is pressuring Israel to conclude its operations within a limited timeframe. Internally, the Israeli military is struggling with readiness—reports suggest that only half of reservists have responded to call-ups, with many expressing doubts about the operation’s aims or chances of success.

Public discourse within “Israel” reflects growing skepticism about the direction of the war. With the hostage issue losing its strategic weight, internal divisions are surfacing over whether the continuation of military operations remains viable—or if it risks deeper entanglement. As the operation drags on, questions over the feasibility of achieving its objectives grow louder, casting doubt on the long-term success of Israel’s evolving strategy in Gaza.

Hamas has officially filed an appeal in London against its continued designation as a terrorist organization, calling the classification a blatant bias toward the Israeli occupation.

In a statement, Hamas said its legal team from the Rifroy law office in London submitted the appeal to the UK’s Ministry of the Interior. The appeal was filed under the direction of Hamas’s Head of International Relations and Legal Affairs, Mousa Abu Marzouk.

The movement argued that the decision made in October 2021 is unjust and represents clear support for Israeli crimes against Palestinians, disregarding human rights principles, democracy, international law, and even UK law itself.
