Il mosaico di 840 metri quadrati verrà inaugurato quest'anno. È stato scoperto nove anni fa durante la costruzione di un nuovo hotel ad Antakya, in Turchia.
Gli archeologi ritengono che il mosaico un tempo decorasse il pavimento di un edificio pubblico nell'antica città di Antiochia, una delle città più importanti dell'impero seleucide.
Gli archeologi hanno collaborato con gli architetti per preservare questo antico manufatto durante la costruzione dell'hotel, ora anche un museo.
La piattaforma collegata alle colonne ora è sospesa sopra il mosaico e i visitatori potranno ammirare questo capolavoro dall'alto, da punti di osservazione privilegiati.
The world's largest ancient mosaic has been discovered in Turkey.
The 840 square metre mosaic will be inaugurated this year. It was discovered nine years ago during the construction of a new hotel in Antakya, Turkey.
Archaeologists believe the mosaic once decorated the floor of a public building in the ancient city of Antioch, one of the most important cities of the Seleucid Empire.
Archaeologists worked with architects to preserve this ancient artefact during the construction of the hotel, now also a museum.
The platform connected to the columns is now suspended above the mosaic and visitors can admire this masterpiece from above, from privileged vantage points.
