And...there was this hysteria about population. Many countries had tried to institute population controls. But the Chinese government was really in a position to do it because it's an authoritarian regime. There's not really big cultural, religious, precepts against birth control or abortion.
The Chinese felt that, to boost their economy, they had to keep population down, and it was it was a little bit of a mathematical sleight of hand, they wanted to boost per capita income.

Israelis are afraid they only have two years left before the US-Israel special relationship comes to an end.
At the Jewish News Syndicate's International Policy Summit last week, Sarah Stern of the Endowment for Middle East Truth said that she's "very afraid" that the US-Israel relationship as it stands only has "two years" left.
Stern lamented the rise of the "Tucker Carlson" wing of the Republican Party as "very scary" and said: "I have to say, to be very honest, that I'm very worried. We might have a two-year window to get a lot accomplished in Congress, I'm very afraid that the Democrats might take the House, might take the Senate -- we have a lot of work to do."
She was followed by JINSA head Michael Makovsky lamenting the rise of the "isolationist" wing of the Republican Party and warning that they could turn on Israel at any time.
