Via the Independent 🇬🇧 Reform UK would be on course to win most seats with no party close to an overall majority if an election were held imminently, a new poll suggests.

Labour could lose 246 MPs, including 10 Cabinet ministers, with major losses in the so-called red wall, Scotland and the Welsh Valleys, according to the More in Common survey.

Based on polling of more than 16,000 people, the data suggests a potential fracturing of the vote that could reshape the electoral map, with Labour’s support splintering left and right.

Reform would win 180 seats on an implied vote share of 23.7%, with the Tories and Labour tied on 165 seats each at 24.3% and 24.5% respectively, according to the modelling.

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband are among those who could lose to candidates from Nigel Farage’s party, More in Common said.

Several women told the Observer their partners had been sucked into the manosphere – the name given to parts of the internet that circulate misogynist content – or consumed far-right material online.

With surveys reporting that an increasing number of young men are subscribing to these beliefs, the number of women finding that their partners share the misogynistic views espoused by the likes of Andrew Tate is also on the rise. Research from anti-fascism organisation Hope Not Hate, which polled about 2,000 people across the UK aged 16 to 24, discovered that 41% of young men support Tate versus just 12% of young women.

“Numbers are growing, with wives worried about their husbands and partners becoming radicalised,” says Nigel Bromage, a reformed neo-Nazi who is now the director of Exit Hate Trust, a charity that helps people who want to leave the far right.

“Wives or partners become really worried about the impact on their family, especially those with young children, as they fear they will be influenced by extremism and racism.”

From the Guardian 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 Gaza has been pushed to new depths of despair, civilians, medics and humanitarian workers say, by the unprecedented seven-week-long Israeli military blockade that has cut off all aid to the strip.

The siege has left the Palestinian territory facing conditions unmatched in severity since the beginning of the war as residents grapple with sweeping new evacuation orders, the renewed bombing of civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, and the exhaustion of food, fuel for generators and medical supplies.

Israel unilaterally abandoned a two-month ceasefire with Palestinian militant group Hamas on 2 March, cutting off vital supplies. Just over two weeks later, it resumed large-scale bombing and redeployed ground troops withdrawn during the truce.

Since then, political figures and security officials have repeatedly vowed that aid deliveries will not resume until Hamas releases the remaining hostages. Israel’s government has framed the new siege as a security measure and has repeatedly denied using starvation as a weapon, which would constitute a war crime.

From the Daily Beast 🇺🇸 🇻🇦 Pope Francis skipped the Vatican’s official meeting with Vice President JD Vance Saturday, instead having his No. 2 give the vice president a lecture on compassion, according to a Vatican statement.

Pope Francis was absent from Vance’s conversation with Cardinal Pietro Parolin. However, the statement said there was “an exchange of opinions on the international situation, especially regarding countries affected by war, political tensions and difficult humanitarian situations, with particular attention to migrants, refugees, and prisoners.”

It called for “serene collaboration” between the White House and the Catholic Church in the United States—a seeming hint to the tensions that have brewed between the two since President Donald Trump took office.

Pope Francis has repeatedly rebuked the president’s mass deportation effort, calling it a “disgrace” and a “grave sin.”

The pontiff has also specifically confronted Vance, the highest-ranking Catholic in the U.S. government, having converted in 2019.

Without mentioning the VP by name, the Pope corrected a Catholic concept Vance had invoked to defend the administration’s deportations, ordo amoris (order of love). In a February letter, Francis pointedly explained, “Christian love is not a concentric expansion of interests that little by little extend to other persons and groups.”

Via Yahoo News 🇺🇸 Ryan Kelley thought he had a good shot at becoming Michigan’s governor in 2022. That is, until he was charged with misdemeanors for participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. His campaign sputtered and he finished fourth out of five candidates in the Republican primary.

Three years later, Kelley says, people ask him all the time to run for governor again. In today’s America, where President Donald Trump returned to the White House and within hours pardoned some 1,500 Jan. 6 rioters, Kelley's two-month prison sentence for his actions that winter day in 2021 isn't the obstacle to public life that it might once have been.

It may even be a ticket to political prominence.

Far from being sidelined, those who rioted, assaulted police officers or broke into congressional offices during the violent attack are now being spotlighted as honored guest speakers at local Republican events around the country. They are getting a platform to tell their version of events and being hailed as heroes and martyrs. Some are considering running for office, recognizing that at least among a certain segment of the pro-Trump base, they are seen not as criminals but as patriots.

From the Associated Press 🇪🇨 Ecuadorian authorities warned Saturday that the Andean country is on “high alert” after it received intelligence about an suspected attempt on President Daniel Noboa’s life.

Ecuador’ s Government Ministry, providing no evidence for its claims, wrote on a post on the social networkTwitter that it was warned “about the planning of an assassination, terrorist attacks and ... violent protests.”

The ministry said it had taken security measures to neutralize the alleged threats.

The Noboa government claimed that those behind the recent threat were “criminal structures” and “political sectors defeated at the polls.” Noboa alluded to an alleged military intelligence report circulating on social media which said that after Sunday’s elections, “the transfer of hired killers from Mexico and other countries to Ecuador has begun.”

But the lack of evidence from Ecuador’s government fueled criticism from former candidate González. On Saturday, she wrote on Twitter that the assassination claims were simply the government’s “desperation to silence us” and added that “more persecution is coming.”

From Mother Jones 🇺🇸 For the past six years, Gavin Wax has held court as the president of the New York Young Republicans Club, a group he helped turn from a small, stodgy establishment outfit into “a vanguard of the Trump movement,” as he said last year. Under his leadership, the club has moved far to the right. It’s hosted events attended by white nationalists, budding foreign authoritarians, and of course, George Santos, whose congressional campaign it endorsed before he became a convicted felon.

Wax announced this month that he was stepping down as the club’s president, and on Friday he revealed that he would be taking a post in the Trump administration as chief of staff and advisor to Federal Communications Commissioner Nathan Simington. The 31-year-old former day trader has long been a die-hard Trump loyalist.

From the Kyiv Independent 🇺🇦 A clash broke out between police and far-right protesters outside the Zhovten cinema in Kyiv on April 19, where the Sunny Bunny LGBTQ+ film festival is taking place, Suspilne media reported.

According to a Suspilne correspondent at the scene, members of the group called "Prava Molod" ("The Right Youth" in Ukrainian) gathered outside of the venue in support of what they described as "traditional values." The protest escalated into a confrontation with police.

Police detained all demonstrators, citing the need to verify their identities, according to Suspilne. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether charges will be pressed.

The LGBTQ+ community continues to face frequent threats and violence, particularly from far-right groups. Events such as Pride marches and queer cultural festivals are often targeted by the far right.

From Sky News 🇬🇧 Social media influencers are fuelling a rise in misogyny and sexism in the UK's classrooms, according to teachers.

More than 5,800 teachers were polled as part of the survey by the NASUWT teaching union, and nearly three in five (59%) said they believe social media use has contributed to a deterioration in pupils' behaviour.

Andrew Tate was referenced by a number of teachers who took part in the survey, who said he had negative influence on male pupils.

One teacher said she'd had 10-year-old boys "refuse to speak to [her]...because [she is] a woman".

Another teacher said "the Andrew Tate phenomena had a huge impact on how [pupils at an all-boys school] interacted with females and males they did not see as 'masculine'".

While another respondent to the survey said their school had experienced some incidents of "derogatory language towards female staff...as a direct result of Andrew Tate videos".

From the NYTimes 🇺🇸 With America’s fertility rate at a historic low — 1,616 births per 1,000 women, far under the rate needed to maintain the population size — a “pronatalist” community has emerged, calling for bigger families and policies that encourage childbearing. This movement has skewed heavily right, made up of cultural conservatives who see conventional family units as the bedrock of society, as well as of technologists concerned that humanity is not replacing itself.

Many on the left, including those who share the goal of making it easier for people who want to have big families, have criticized the movement for embracing far-right voices: white supremacists who fear developing countries’ outpacing wealthy white people in their childbearing, misogynists calling for a return to traditional gender roles.

The Natal Conference was started by Kevin Dolan, a conservative who came up with the idea after watching a Tucker Carlson documentary about falling testosterone levels. Since the inaugural conference, held in December 2023, political winds have shifted for the pronatalists. There, in the White House, is Vice President JD Vance, who has urged Americans to have “more babies.” Often by President Trump’s side is Elon Musk, who posts prolifically about “population collapse” and has fathered more than a dozen children. President Trump last month called himself “the fertilization president.” But the push for babies, of course, can only go so far without a crucial element: women.

From the Washington Post 🇺🇸 🇸🇻 Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has a long history of using social media to flaunt his powers — from declaring himself “the coolest dictator in the world” to posting dramatically shot videos of people being herded into his country’s prisons.

That audacious style was once again on display when Bukele shared photos of Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) visiting with Kilmar Abrego García on Thursday. Abrego García, a Salvadoran immigrant and Maryland resident who is married to a U.S. citizen, was mistakenly deported last month to El Salvador. He was being held in the country’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center, known as CECOT.

Bukele mocked the senator’s visit, telling his followers that Van Hollen and Abrego García were drinking margaritas in the “tropical paradise of El Salvador.”

Van Hollen said his attempts to meet with Abrego García were initially refused, even though Bukele previously allowed Republican officials and social media influencers to visit the prison. But late Thursday, Van Hollen shared an image of himself seated at a table with Abrego García in a restaurant in El Salvador. Only in Van Hollen’s photo, there were no salt-rimmed glasses and cherries.

Heads bowed over candles, and escorted by people bearing aloft large gold crosses, they made their way to a platform at the heart of the ancient square.

The ceremony on Holy Thursday, in which the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem washes the feet of 12 monastic priests to commemorate the Last Supper, is one of many Easter rituals that have taken place in the Old City of Jerusalem for hundreds of years. For Christians, there is no holier place to commemorate Easter than here, the site where they believe Jesus Christ was crucified, buried and resurrected.

Yet the crowd that assembled outside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Thursday morning was small and muted. International pilgrims jostled with dark-robed Greek Orthodox monks, but one group of native worshippers was noticeably absent.

But centuries of tradition have been ruptured by Israel’s increasingly draconian control over Palestinian movement – which means any Palestinian in the West Bank living outside Jerusalem, must obtain a military permit if they want to enter the city. For years, Christians in Palestinian territories were regularly granted permits to visit Jerusalem around Easter but since the war with Hamas broke out on 7 October 2023, they have become almost impossible to obtain.

From Reuters 🇮🇱 🇮🇷 Israel has not ruled out an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities in the coming months despite President Donald Trump 🇺🇸 telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. was for now unwilling to support such a move, according to an Israeli official and two other people familiar with the matter.

Israeli officials have vowed to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and Netanyahu has insisted that any negotiation with Iran must lead to the complete dismantling of its nuclear program.

U.S. and Iranian negotiators are set for a second round of preliminary nuclear talks in Rome on Saturday.

Over the past months, Israel has proposed to the Trump administration a series of options to attack Iran’s facilities, including some with late spring and summer timelines, the sources said. The plans include a mix of airstrikes and commando operations that vary in severity and could set back Tehran's ability to weaponize its nuclear program by just months or a year or more, the sources said.

From the Associated Press 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 Israeli strikes in Gaza have killed more than 90 people in the last 48 hours.

The dead include 15 people who were killed overnight, among them women and children, some of whom were sheltering in a designated humanitarian zone, according to hospital staff.

At least 11 people were killed in the southern city of Khan Younis, several of them in a tent in the Mwasi area where hundreds of thousands of displaced people are living, hospital workers said. Israel has designated it as a humanitarian zone.

Four other people were killed in separate strikes in Rafah city, including a mother and her daughter, according to the European Hospital, where the bodies were brought.

Israel has vowed to intensify attacks across Gaza and occupy large “security zones” inside the strip. For six weeks Israel also has blockaded Gaza, barring the entry of food and other goods.

From the Guardian 🇮🇱 🇶🇦 Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in a Saturday speech that the decision to fire the country’s domestic security chief Ronen Bar was made before the announcement that Bar was investigating the prime ministry for alleged ties to the Qatari government.

Netanyahu said that he had decided to fire Bar, the director of Shin Bet, after the agency’s report on the 7 October 2023 attack, rather than after it opened its investigation.

“Ronen Bar will not remain head of the Shin Bet. There will not be a civil war, and Israel will remain a democratic state,” said Netanyahu.

Shin Bet has said that it began its investigation into connections between officials in the prime minister’s office and the Qatari government in early February, before the release of the 7 October report. The investigation is looking into allegations that some members of the prime minister’s office, as well as other government agencies, took money to promote the interests of Qatar.

🇮🇱 🇵🇸 Hamdan Ballal, a Palestinian co-director of the film “No Other Land,” which was the winner of Best Documentary Feature Film at this year’s Oscars, has been reportedly lynched by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

According to Yuval Abraham, another co-director on the film, he was then kidnapped by Israeli soldiers, with his current location unknown.

In addition to the ongoing blockade and military assault on Gaza, the Israeli occupied West Bank has been effectively transformed into a second front in the war.

~400,000 Palestinians, or a little over 10% of Palestinians in the West Bank, have been displaced by recent actions by the Israeli military.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) appears to be manually revoking students’ immigration status – an authority typically left to university staff. And some students and universities are not even being made aware of those revocations – setting students up to be taken by immigration agents without even knowing it was coming.

The Proud Boys, a far-right group with dozens of chapters nationwide, are known for "violence, targeted harassment and intimidation" and their role in the Jan. 6 riots.

President Trump has called Tesla protesters "sick terrorist thugs," and the FBI is investigating attacks elsewhere targeting the vehicles.

A little-followed Truth Social account called Proud Boys of Columbus posted Tuesday that "chapters from all over the state" will be coming to Easton this Saturday.

"We've decided this time we'll just join the crowd, maybe see what we see. Recording faces, getting names, license plates, definitely have a chat with the 'friendly' domestic terrorists so we can join their Discord and Signal groups."

From NPR 🇺🇸 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced it will begin screening immigrants' social media for evidence of antisemitic activity as grounds for denying immigration benefit requests. The screenings will affect people applying for permanent residence status as well as foreigners affiliated with educational institutions. The policy will go into effect immediately.

In a statement issued Wednesday morning, the Department of Homeland Security said it will "protect the homeland from extremists and terrorist aliens, including those who support antisemitic terrorism, violent antisemitic ideologies and antisemitic terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, or [the Houthis]."

The announcement comes following the highly publicized arrests and detentions of pro-Palestinian student activists such as Mahmoud Khalil and Rumeysa Ozturk, who the government alleges engaged in antisemitic activities. Their lawyers deny the allegations.

From the NYTimes 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 A video recording, discovered on the cellphone of one of the paramedics who was found along with 14 other aid workers in a mass grave in the Gazan city of Rafah in late March, shows that the ambulances and fire truck that they were traveling in were clearly marked and had their emergency signal lights on when Israeli troops hit them with a barrage of gunfire.

An Israeli military spokesman, Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, said earlier this week that Israeli forces did not “randomly attack” an ambulance, but that several vehicles “were identified advancing suspiciously” without headlights or emergency signals toward Israeli troops, prompting them to shoot. Colonel Shoshani said earlier in the week that nine of those killed were Palestinian militants. Israel did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the video.

The warrant reveals that during their search, investigators found material on his phone in regard to "The Order of Nine Angles", an extremist neo-Nazi group.

Furthermore, investigators reviewed images and communications that referenced a self-described manifesto regarding assassinating the President, making bombs, and terrorist attacks.

The warrant refers to "calling for the assassination of the President of the United States in order to foment a political revolution in the United States and "save the white races" from "Jewish controlled" politicians.""

The document also contained images of Adolf Hitler with text "HAIL HITLER HAIL THE WHITE RACE HAIL VICTORY".

Via Yahoo News 🇺🇸 🇬🇱 It’s a good thing that the second lady’s trip to Greenland was cancelled, because apparently nobody wanted her there.

U.S. representatives were reportedly seen knocking door-to-door in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, to ascertain just how Vance’s visit to the Nordic island would be received. The answer? Not well.

“The Americans’ charm offensive mission has failed,” reported TV 2 correspondent Jesper Steinmetz, adding that locals have completely cold-shouldered the Vance family’s prospective visit.

American representatives were seen walking around the city, canvassing residents to see if people would be interested in a visit from the vice president’s wife.

“They’ve gotten no, no, no, no, no, every single time,” Steinmetz said.

Usha Vance was reportedly scheduled to attend a dogsled race in the foreign country, sharing in a video statement on Instagram that she was “reading all about it with my children” and was looking “forward to meeting” the island’s residents.

Public records also show he counted a Polish Catholic legal organization and antiabortion group as one of his law firm’s top clients in 2024.

In answers to a Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire sent to nominees, Martin, President Donald Trump’s pick to serve as top prosecutor in D.C., listed among his public statements a 2019 video in which he endorsed a European Parliament bid by Dominik Tarczynski, a leader of Poland’s right-wing Law and Justice party. In the video, Martin gave Tarczynski a red “Make Europe Great Again” hat.

Earlier, in September 2018, Martin presented awards to Tarczynski and Petr Bystron, a member of the far-right party Alternative for Germany, from a conservative U.S. political group previously headed by Martin, according to a website for the group, the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles.

Martin hosted Bystron on his podcast in September 2023. On an 2021 podcast episode, he spoke with then-Hungarian Minister for Family Affairs and later President Katalin Novak, a member of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s far-right Fidesz.

🇺🇸 🇬🇱 As the Trump administration intensifies efforts to acquire Greenland from Denmark — or take it by force — some Silicon Valley tech investors are promoting the frozen island as a site for a so-called freedom city, a libertarian utopia with minimal corporate regulation, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The discussions are in early stages, but the idea has been taken seriously by Trump's pick for Denmark ambassador, Ken Howery, who is expected to be confirmed by Congress in the coming months and lead Greenland-acquisition negotiations, the people said. 🇺🇸 The official United States White House Twitter account has posted an image of a woman being deported that was modified using AI to imitate the style of Studio Ghibli, a famous Japanese animation studio.

After the release of the latest version of ChatGPT on Tuesday, an online trend emerged as many people were using the tool to modify various images in order to imitate the studio’s art style.

The official White House account decided to do the same to the image of a woman crying while she was being deported, with the specific photo having previously gone viral on the far-right.
