Catalin Radu to Help Kyrgyz Airlines Exit EU Sanctions List
🇰🇬 Former head of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan (AAK), Catalin Radu, will assist Kyrgyz airlines in getting removed from the European Union’s aviation blacklist. He has signed a contract with the government of Kyrgyzstan to provide consulting services, Radu confirmed to CentralAsia+ Aero.
“This initiative involves close cooperation with the government and the State Civil Aviation Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCAA) to lift all operational restrictions imposed by the European Commission on Kyrgyz air carriers,” Radu wrote on his LinkedIn account.
While leading AAK from 2022 to 2025, Radu successfully completed the years-long process of removing Kazakhstan’s civil aviation sector from the EU’s blacklist.
Before that, he had extensive experience working in major international civil aviation organizations such as ICAO, the European Civil Aviation Conference, and Eurocontrol, and also previously headed the civil aviation authority of his native Romania.
Kyrgyz airlines have been banned from flying to the European Union since 2006. Since last year, Kyrgyz authorities have been actively working to improve flight safety standards.
In October 2024, acting director of the SCAA, Daniyar Bostonov, held discussions in Brussels with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE EU) regarding the removal of Kyrgyz airlines from the EU blacklist.
In early April, his deputy, Kanat Tologonov, told local media that the final EU audit is scheduled for this autumn.
Local authorities expect that, if passed successfully, a decision to lift the restrictions on Kyrgyzstan could be made as early as May 2026.
Kyrgyzstan currently has the largest number of airlines among all post-Soviet Central Asian countries. The SCAA’s registry lists 25 civil aircraft operators, with the largest being private carriers Aero Nomad, Avia Traffic, Tez Jet, and the state-owned startup Asman Airlines.
The latter is getting ready to lease Airbus A320 family aircraft to launch flights to Europe.

LCC Wizz Air opens base in Yerevan, to become Armenia’s largest airline
🇦🇲 Wizz Air, Hungarian low-cost carrier announced the opening of a new base in Yerevan in October, expanding its already prominent presence in Armenia.
The airline plans to base two 239-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft at Zvartnots International Airport (EVN), which will allow Wizz to almost double the number of its flights from the Armenian capital.
Based operations will provide passengers with direct connections to eight new destinations in six countries this upcoming winter.
Starting from October 2025, new non-stop flights between Yerevan and Bari, Bucharest, Hamburg, Naples, Nice, Memmingen, Paphos, and Prague will be launched.
Six of these routes are currently unserved, with Nice and Paphos being flown by Flyone Armenia (affiliate of Moldova's LCC Flyone) during the summer navigation season.
Wizz Air entered the Armenian market in the summer of 2020, launching flights to Yerevan from Vienna. Since then, according to the airline, it has carried more than 2.2 million passengers to and from the country.
"We are thrilled to begin our based operations from Yerevan <…> and to nearly double our offer of direct connections from the Armenian capital. This development will secure our leadership position on the market with 30% share and almost 1.2 million seats annually for passengers traveling to and from Yerevan," Roland Tischner, managing director at Wizz Air Hungary, said.
For the 2025 summer season, Wizz Air operates eight flights to Yerevan from Budapest, Dortmund, Larnaca, Milan, Rome, Sofia, Vienna, and Venice.
The company's Middle East subsidiary, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, also serves Yerevan from UAE capital.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan highlighted the importance of attracting international airlines into Armenia's aviation market.
“It will contribute not only to the expansion of flight geography, but will also lead to the introduction of foreign business culture in our country. <…> We are confident that the incorporation of international experience will promote the manifestation of competitive advantages of local airlines,” Armen Simonyan affirmed.
Together, Wizz Air and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is the second largest airline in Armenia with a market share of 16.1%, behind Flyone Armenia (20.6%).
By establishing a base in Yerevan and launching new flights, Wizz Air will become the largest carrier in Armenia with flights from the capital's airport to 17 destinations in 10 countries.
The low-cost carrier is already the No. 1 airline in neighboring Georgia.

The founder of Alpha Sky airline appointed head of Turkistan airport
🇰🇿 Gulzhan Janibekova has been appointed acting head of Turkistan International Airport (HSA, Kazakhstan).
Ms. Janibekova is also the CEO and founder of the cargo airline Alpha Sky, for which Turkistan serves as the home base. The airline confirmed to CentralAsia+ Aero that she will continue to lead Alpha Sky along with her new appointment.
Turkistan Airport is located in southern Kazakhstan and primarily serves domestic passenger flights operated by local carriers FlyArystan, SCAT, and Qazaq Air (Vietjet Qazaqstan).
Among foreign airlines, it is served by Jazeera from Kuwait, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul (Türkiye), and Wizz Air from Abu Dhabi (UAE).

Air Astana increases passenger traffic by 7%, revenue by 10% in Q1 2025
🇰🇿 Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, the Air Astana Group, increased its passenger traffic by 7.1% in the first quarter of this year, reaching 2.0 million people. The average passenger load factor rose by 0.3 percentage points to 81.5%.
According to Air Astana CEO Peter Foster, the growth in passenger numbers was driven by the expansion of the route network and an increase in available seat capacity.
“Our network is growing with 15 new routes launched in 2025 to several popular business and lifestyle destinations.
These flights have been added where demand is strongest, building on the 21 new routes launched last year across growth regions such as Vietnam and the Gulf,” he said.
The CEO also highlighted the expansion of air services with two major Asian markets: China and India. In March, Air Astana launched its fourth Chinese destination — Guangzhou — followed by Mumbai in April. In May, its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan will begin flying to another Chinese city, Yining (Kulja).
Since the beginning of the year, the group has taken delivery of five Airbus medium-haul aircraft: three A320neos and two A320ceos, while retiring two of its remaining three Embraer E2 regional jets. The total fleet now stands at 60 aircraft, including 34 operated by Air Astana and 26 by FlyArystan.
To mitigate the grounding of A320neo aircraft due to PW1100G GTF engine issues, the group currently holds 12 spare engines of this type.
Route network expansion was also supported by the installation of a third auxiliary fuel tank on the A321LR aircraft, enabling them to operate on long-haul routes to Europe and Southeast Asia. Foster emphasized the importance of the project while speaking at the Central Asia Aviation Summit 2025 in Astana earlier this week. The Air Astana technical center is currently installing an additional fuel tank on its sixth A321LR.
The group’s total revenue for the first quarter grew by 10.4% to USD 292.4 million, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, and restructuring (EBITDAR) rose by 37.1% to US$59.9 million.

Southeast Asia'a largest LCC to start flying to Uzbekistan in October
🇺🇿 Malaysia’s budget carrier AirAsia X plans to launch regular service between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent from October this year, Uzbekistan Airports revealed, following completion of negotiations with Southeast Asia’s largest low-cost carrier.
Flights between the capitals of Malaysia and Uzbekistan are expected to be operated with a frequency of three times a week using Airbus A320/A321 narrowbody. The airline has already been granted rights for scheduled flights to Uzbekistan from local aviation authority.
AirAsia X will compete on the route with Uzbekistan Airways and Malaysia's Batik Air.
Uzbekistan Airports, the state-owned airport management company, stressed that the LCC is considering the possibility of organizing connecting flights via Tashkent to third countries.
AirAsia X opened up Central Asia by launching flights from Kuala Lumpur to Almaty (Kazakhstan) in March 2024.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan both hope that AirAsia X will eventually choose one of its airports to create a virtual hub there to perform flights using fifth freedom of air - to Turkey and European cities.

🇺🇿🇰🇿🇰🇬🇹🇯 In 2025–2026, the fleet of airlines in the countries of Central Asia could expand by more than 50 aircraft, according to publicly announced procurement plans by local carriers.
The majority of new aircraft will be delivered to the region’s largest aviation markets: Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Both countries have been steadily increasing their passenger traffic in recent years and are in need of additional capacity.
Earlier this year, Kazakhstan’s aviation authorities announced that local carriers would receive 14 new aircraft in 2025. Since January, five Airbus A320 family jets have already joined the fleets of national airline Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan. Air Astana expects to receive several more narrowbodies before year-end, and add first long-haul Boeing 787s in 2026.
The country’s second-largest carrier, SCAT Airlines, plans to receive six Boeing 737NG/MAX narrowbodies in 2025 and two more MAX aircraft in 2026.
Meanwhile, following an investment deal with a Vietnamese investor, Qazaq Air may begin transitioning from turboprop DHC Dash 8s to jet-powered medium-haul Boeing 737 family aircraft. Cargo startup Alpha Sky, which already took delivery of its first Boeing Business Jet this year, is also expecting further fleet expansion.
In Uzbekistan, Centrum Air, a private airline, has the most ambitious expansion plans, announcing it would add 14 aircraft in 2025, including 12 Airbus A320ceo/neo narrowbodies and two widebody A330s. So far, it has received only one A320neo.
Its parent cargo carrier, My Freighter, recently added its first Boeing 757F to its all-Boeing 767 fleet and it aims to continue expanding capacity.

Всем авиакомпаниям Кыргызстана запрещено летать в страны Евросоюза с 2006 г. С прошлого года власти Кыргызстана предпринимают активные усилия по улучшению стандартов безопасности полетов.
В октябре 2024 года врио директора ГАГА Данияр Бостонов обсудил вывод авиакомпаний страны из черного списка ЕС с руководством Генерального директората по мобильности и транспорту Еврокомиссии (DG Move EU) в Брюсселе.
В начале апреля его заместитель Канат Тологонов рассказал местным СМИ, что финальный аудит Евросоюза запланирован на осень этого года.
Власти ожидают, что в случае его успешного прохождения решение о выводе Кыргызстана из черного списка может быть принято уже в мае 2026 года.
Кыргызстан располагает самым большим количеством авиакомпаний среди всех стран Центральной Азии. В реестре ГАГА числится 25 эксплуатантов гражданских воздушных судов. Крупнейшими из них являются частные Aero Nomad, Avia Traffiс, Tez Jet и новая государственная Asman Airlines. Последняя готова приобрести среднемагистральные самолеты семейства Airbus A320 для полетов в Европу.

Европейский лоукостер Wizz Air станет крупнейшей авиакомпанией в Армении, открывает базу в Ереване
🇦🇲 Венгерский бюджетный перевозчик Wizz Air в октябре откроет базу в Ереване, расширив и без того заметное присутствие в Армении. Лоукостер уже является крупнейшим иностранным перевозчиком в республике.
Авиакомпания планирует забазировать два 239-местных самолета Airbus A321neo в международном аэропорту Звартноц (EVN), что позволит Wizz практически удвоить количество рейсов из столицы Армении.
После открытия базы будут запущены семь новых маршрутов: в Бари и Неаполь (оба – в Италии), Бухарест (Румыния), Гамбург и Мемминген (оба – в Германии), Ницца (Франция) и Пафос (Кипр), а также возобновлены полеты в Прагу (Чехия).

Основательница авиакомпании Alpha Sky возглавила аэропорт Туркестана
🇰🇿 На должность врио руководителя Международного аэропорта Туркестана (HSA, Казахстан) назначена Гульжан Джанибекова.
Г-жа Джанибекова также является гендиректором и основателем грузовой авиакомпании Alpha Sky, для которой Туркестан является базовым аэропортом. В авиакомпании изданию CentralAsia+ Aero подтвердили, что она продолжит руководить Alpha Sky, несмотря на новое назначение.

Air Astana увеличила количество пассажиров на 7%, выручку на 10% в первом квартале
🇰🇿 Главный авиаперевозчик Казахстана – группа Air Astana в первом квартале этого года увеличила пассажиропоток на 7,1% до 2,0 млн человек. Средний коэффициент занятости пассажирских кресел вырос на 0,3 п.п. до 81,5%.
По словам главы Air Astana Питера Фостера, рост пассажиропотока был достигнут за счет расширения маршрутной сети и увеличения провозных емкостей.
«В 2025 году запущено 15 новых маршрутов по нескольким популярным деловым и туристическим направлениям.
Эти рейсы были запущены на направлениях с наиболее высоким спросом, в дополнение к 21 новому маршруту, запущенному в прошлом году в регионах с растущим спросом как Вьетнам и страны Персидского залива», -- рассказал он.
Глава группы также отметил расширения авиасообщения с двумя азиатскими мегарынками: Китаем и Индией. В марте Air Astana открыла четвертое китайское направление – Гуанчжоу, а в апреле в Мумбаи. В мае ее дочерний бюджетный перевозчик FlyArystan начнет летать в еще один город Китая – Инин (Кульджу).
С начала года группа получила пять среднемагистральных самолетов Airbus: три новых A320neo и два A320ceo и вывела два из трех оставшихся региональных самолетов Embraer E2.
Общая численность парка достигла 60 воздушных судов, включая 34 самолета Air Astana и 26 самолетов FlyArystan.

Traffic growth in Kazakhstan stimulates expansion of airport infrastructure
🇰🇿 Kazakh authorities continue to develop the country’s airport infrastructure amid growing air traffic.
In the first quarter of 2025, the airports of Kazakhstan’s two largest cities — the current capital Astana and the former capital Almaty — continued to increase their passenger flows, according to the Central Asian republic’s National Bureau of Statistics.
The largest growth was seen in Almaty, where 1.35 million passengers were served in the first three months of the year — a 16% year-on-year increase. The growth was apparently driven by the launch of a new passenger terminal in 2024, which boosted the airport’s annual capacity from 2.5 million to 14 million passengers.
Astana airport served 944,000 passengers, marking a 3.1% y-on-y increase.
Kazakhstan’s third-largest airport, Shymkent, saw a 3% decline in passenger numbers in January-March, down to 260,000 passengers. However, after opening a new terminal at the end of last year, the airport’s capacity increased from 800,000 to 6 million passengers per year.
But local carrier SCAT Airlines (and operator of the terminal) is yet to launch new international routes from Shymkent this summer.
Last year, a new terminal also opened at Kyzylorda Airport, increasing its capacity from 300,000 to 2 million passengers per year.
In addition, major renovations of runway surfaces at Aktau and Pavlodar airports are underway and expected to be completed later this year.
By order of the President of Kazakhstan, construction has begun on new airports in the resort areas of Katon-Karagay and Zaysan in the east of the country, as well as Kendirli on the Caspian Sea coast. These new air gateways will be equipped with runways over 2,000 meters long.
Alongside the construction of ground infrastructure, the government plans to purchase ATR-72 or DHC Dash-8 turboprops through the Industrial Development Fund to launch direct flights to these airports from Almaty, Astana, and other major cities in Kazakhstan to stimulate tourism.
Another airport will be built in the special economic zone Khorgos–Eastern Gate on the border with China. Plans call for the construction of a passenger terminal with a capacity of up to 500 people per hour, a cargo terminal capable of handling 250,000 tons of freight per year, and an aircraft maintenance center.

Korea’s Incheon Airport Corp. to manage Uzbekistan's Urgench airport
🇺🇿 Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC), the operator of South Korea's largest airport Seoul Incheon, won the tender for modernization and management of Urgench International Airport (UGC, Uzbekistan) under the public-private partnership (PPP) project, Uzbekistan Airports reported.
Once the concession agreement is signed, the Korean company to operate the Uzbek airport over the next 19 years.
Under the public-private partnership, the Korean partner will build and manage the passenger and cargo terminals, including ground handling. The state partner Uzbekistan Airports is to build and manage the airfield complex (runway and apron).
Open two-stage tender for the implementation of the project “Modernization and Management of Urgench International Airport” under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model was announced in August 2024.
Eight companies took part in the tender, five of them made it to the second final stage, following which the winner was determined by the interdepartmental tender commission.
The project is being implemented by Uzbekistan Airports together with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan.
"The announcement of an open tender has generated great interest from large international airport companies. <…> We are confident that the [IIAC] team that will implement the project in Urgench will turn the gateway of Khorezm into one of the most modern and convenient for passengers, will increase the attractiveness of the region for foreign tourists and, in general, will contribute to the development of the aviation sector of republic,” Uzbekistan Airports commented.
Urgench is located in the northwest of the Central Asian republic, near the border with Turkmenistan. In 2024, the airport served 696,000 passengers, representing a healthy 18% year-on-year growth, 5,500 flights were performed (+11%).
Seoul Incheon became the third busiest international airport (70.7 million passengers, up 5.7%), ceding only to Dubai (DXB) and London’s Heathrow in 2024.
IIAC, fully-owned by the Government of South Korea, has carried out over 30 international business expansions in 15 countries.

The flights, lasting approximately 7 h and 30 min, will be operated four times a week using Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft, said Uzbekistan Airports, state-run operator of the Central Asian republic’s airports.
T'way (IATA code: TW) will become the fourth carrier on the route, and the frequency of flights between the capitals of Uzbekistan and Korea will increase to 17 per week with its arrival.
Currently, Uzbekistan Airways (daily service), Asiana Airlines (4 flights per week) and privately held Uzbek Qanot Sharq (2 flights per week) fly between Tashkent and Seoul.
Uzbekistan Airways and Asiana responded to the arrival of a new player by concluding a codeshare agreement, a partnership between the carriers under which flights operated by one airline are available for booking under the code of the other. The agreement comes into effect on May 20.
For T'way, Tashkent will be its second destination in Central Asia - since June 2023, it has provided air service between the capitals of South Korea and Kyrgyzstan, flying between Seoul and Bishkek .

Centrum Air agrees with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise to expand A320 capacity
🇺🇿 Uzbekistan-based private passenger carrier Centrum Air signed an agreement with the lessor Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) for an unspecified number of Airbus A320 narrowbodies.
“This step is a part of our ongoing strategy to modernize our fleet and support our expanding route network,” Centrum Air founder and Centrum Holding CEO Abdulaziz Abdurakhmanov wrote on his LinkedIn page, without specifying the number of aircraft to be leased, their modification or the expected delivery timeframe.
Centrum Air currently operates an all-Airbus mix of three A320ceos, a single A320neo, two A321ceos, and one A330-300 widebody; the latter was delivered in late April under a contract for two of the type.
The other A330, as well as two more A320ceo’s, two A320neo’s, and yet another A321neo, should be delivered throughout 2025, thus nearly doubling the carrier’s fleet. The fresh DAE agreement is presumed to be coming on top of these awaited airframes.

🇺🇿 Uzbekistan-based private passenger carrier Centrum Air signed an agreement with the lessor Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) for an unspecified number of Airbus A320 narrowbodies.
“This step is a part of our ongoing strategy to modernize our fleet and support our expanding route network,” Centrum Air founder and Centrum Holding CEO Abdulaziz Abdurakhmanov wrote on his LinkedIn page, without specifying the number of aircraft to be leased, their modification or the expected delivery timeframe.
Centrum Air currently operates an all-Airbus mix of three A320ceos, a single A320neo, two A321ceos, and one A330-300 widebody; the latter was delivered in late April under a contract for two of the type.
The other A330, as well as two more A320ceo’s, two A320neo’s, and yet another A321neo, should be delivered throughout 2025, thus nearly doubling the carrier’s fleet. The fresh DAE agreement is presumed to be coming on top of these awaited airframes.

Uzbeki Urgench airport to be modernized for US$223 million
🇺🇿 The total cost of the modernization project of Urgench International Airport (UGC, Uzbekistan) will be US$223 million.
A new runway, passenger and cargo terminals are planned to be built, along with installation of modern lighting and signaling systems and the purchase of specialized equipment, all under the project, which will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) together with South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC).
This was revealed after the meeting of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with IIAC and project management held in Khorezm region last week.
Incheon International Airport Corp., the operator of South Korea's largest airport Seoul (Incheon), was announced the winner of the tender for modernization and management of Urgench in mid-April.
Once the concession agreement is signed, the Korean company to operate the Uzbek airport over the next 19 years.
Under the public-private partnership, the Korean partner will build and manage the passenger and cargo terminals, including ground handling. The state partner Uzbekistan Airports is to build and manage the airfield complex (runway and apron).
Construction and reconstruction work will be done in 2025-2027. Once modernized, the airport will be able to accommodate large aircraft such as Boeing 747s and Airbus A350s, Uzbekistan Airports said. The new passenger terminal will have a total area of 39,000 square metres and its capacity will increase to 1,300 passengers per hour.
Uzbekistan expects that Urgench airport “will become one of the most convenient air hubs, contributing to the growing appeal of Khorezm region for foreign tourists and the development of the country's air transport in general.”
“Modern hotels, recreation areas and shopping centers are being actively built in Khorezm. We have set a goal to increase the tourist flow to 5 million people. If the airport matches this scale, it will bring mutual benefit and revenue growth,” President Mirziyoyev said.

🇺🇿 Как и ожидалось, частная пассажирская авиакомпания из Узбекистана Centrum Air получила Airbus A330-300, который стал ее первым широкофюзеляжным самолетом.
Прибывшее 30 апреля в Ташкент 15-летнее воздушное судно (заводской серийный номер MSN 1074), получившее местную регистрацию UK33030, ранее эксплуатировалось тайской авиакомпанией Thai Airways. На самолет установлены двигатели Trent 700 производства британской компании Rolls-Royce.

Kyrgyzstan signs bilateral air services agreement with Bahrain
🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan has signed an intergovernmental air services agreement with Bahrain. The signing ceremony took place during the first-ever official visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to the Persian Gulf country on April 21.
"The signing of this agreement creates a legal framework for establishing direct air services between Kyrgyzstan and Bahrain, which in turn opens up new prospects for the development of tourism, business ties, and trade," noted the Civil Aviation Agency of Kyrgyzstan.
The government authorities of both countries will promptly undertake coordinated actions and determine a timeline for the swift launch of a direct flight between the capitals, Bishkek and Manama, according to a joint statement following negotiations between Zhaparov and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain.
Currently, Kyrgyzstan maintains air services with 14 countries.
The Kyrgyz authorities are also in discussions regarding the removal of its national airlines from the European Union’s blacklist, which has banned them from flying to the EU since 2006.

Centrum Air receives its first Rolls-Royce powered Airbus A330
With its first Trent 700 powered A330 aircraft joining Tashkent-based Centrum Air fleet on 30th April 2025, Rolls-Royce is delighted to welcome Centrum Air into the Trent family, the most successful group of large aero engines ever.
Omar Ali Adib, Senior Vice President, Rolls-Royce said: “Designed to last, Trent engines power around half the world's wide body aircraft. The Trent 700 is the most versatile and robust engine on the A330, demonstrating the longest time on wing amongst all the engines of its generation and delivering the highest available thrust enabling both long and short operations.
It has been the engine of choice for the majority of A330 operators, both passenger and cargo, particularly those operating in hot and sandy environments.
“Rolls-Royce is excited to support Centrum Air on its journey to grow its widebody fleet with Rolls-Royce Trent engines.”

Kazakh airlines to launch 20 new international routes this summer
🇰🇿 Kazakhstan’s airlines will open 20 new international routes during the summer navigation season, the country’s Ministry of Transport announced.
The largest number of new routes—10—will be introduced by Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, Air Astana. At the end of March, the airline already launched flights from Almaty to Guangzhou, China, and to the Vietnamese resort city of Nha Trang from both Almaty and Astana.
In April/May, Air Astana will begin flights from Almaty to Mumbai (India), Osh (Kyrgyzstan), Frankfurt (Germany), and Da Nang (Vietnam). Da Nang will also be served from Kazakhstan’s capital.
Two more routes will be added from Atyrau, connecting it with the capitals of two South Caucasus republics—Baku and Tbilisi.
Air Astana’s low-cost subsidiary Fly Arystan will launch flights from Almaty to Yining (Ghulja) in northwest China and from Karaganda to Istanbul, Turkey.
Central Asian republic's largest privately held carrier SCAT Airlines will launch seven new international routes from its home airport in Shymkent, where it opened a new passenger terminal in December.
Three of the new destinations are in China: Xi’an, Shanghai, and Urumqi. SCAT will also fly from Shymkent to Europe for the first time, with routes to Budapest and Munich, as well as to Cairo and Seoul.
Qazaq Air will introduce a new international route from Astana to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with a stopover in Turkistan.
In 2024, Kazakh airlines collectively carried a record 14.7 million passengers, up 10.6% year-on-year.
Passenger traffic continued to grow in Q1 2025, with 3.3 million passengers transported between January and March—a 2.2% increase over the same period in 2024, according to government statistics.
Kazakhstan currently maintains air connections with 28 countries via 121 routes, with a total frequency of 660 flights per week, the Ministry of Transport reported.
