This is a stunning piece; and I would like it to go to someone within our community.
I would not charge the extortionate rates that retail sellers do and try make profit.
This is original, as seen by the age and wear and patina; it is heavy bronze.
Offers please if interested.

The Balloon Observer’s Badge (Ballonbeobachterabzeichen) is among the rarest military decorations issued by Germany during World War II. Instituted on 8 July 1944, it was awarded to German Army personnel who operated gas balloons for artillery observation missions, often at altitudes between 300 and 500 feet—making them vulnerable targets for enemy fire.
🔍 Rarity and Historical Context
Due to its late introduction and the declining use of observation balloons by that stage of the war, the badge was awarded in very limited numbers. Some sources suggest that few, if any, were officially awarded before the war’s end. This scarcity makes authentic examples highly sought after by collectors.
💰 Market Value Overview
The value of a Balloon Observer’s Badge varies significantly based on authenticity, condition, and provenance:
• Authentic Wartime Badges: Genuine examples are exceedingly rare and can command high prices, often ranging from £1,000 to £3,000 or more, depending on condition and documentation.

Green & Cadbury Ltd was a Birmingham-based silversmith firm active between 1858 and 1947, known for producing silver-mounted items such as prayer books, frames, and matchbox covers. Their maker’s mark, “G & C Ltd,” is recorded with the Birmingham Assay Office during this period .
One notable example of their work is a 1907 silver-mounted Common Prayer book. The front cover features an embossed design of five winged angel heads among clouds, inspired by Sir Joshua Reynolds’ “Reynolds Angels.” The rest of the book is bound in dark green leather, with gold tooling on the spine and gilt-edged pages. This particular piece was hallmarked in Birmingham and is attributed to Green & Cadbury Ltd .
This is a miniature version, carried by ladies in their handbags.
A beautiful antique piece, precious metals and a piece of European history.
Green & Cadbury ceased to trade in 1947- this is a really rare piece.
