William Lilly describes the North Node as being of the nature of Jupiter and the South Node as being of the nature of Saturn, insofar as one signifies increase or magnification and the other decrease or reduction. You can see a common underlying theme here.

In my personal opinion, Electional astrology is, for the most part, alternating between overly scrupulous or overly superstitious. I have a Providential or Taoist sort of perspective, wherein it seems clear to me that what is meant to happen will happen, and if you try too hard to micromanage time, you will inevitably be delayed or subdued and not be able to enact some elections you want if they are simply not meant to happen. Indeed, from this perspective elections may be mostly superfluous.
However, a very simple and fun method of elections is to simply choose days and hours in which to perform certain actions, based on the planetary rulership of that day and hour. Wednesday would be a good day to send a letter in this model, Friday for finishing artwork or date night. Of course, any day and time will do for all of these things if one trusts in Providence...but it is also good to organize things in life to times that seem appropriate, and always being conscious of the symbolisms of sacred time is a good habit to keep.

"There is one way and one way only to render astrology intelligible to the modern mentality. This is to change modern thinking until it accepts the principles on which astrology is founded. Let us suppose that astrology is a plate of broccoli. We know that our child would benefit from eating this nutritious vegetable, but he has no wish to do so as he fails to understand its benefits. So we take the broccoli away, replace it with a bowl of ice cream, and when the child empties the bowl we congratulate ourselves on our success at making him eat the broccoli. We could hardly reach such a conclusion without being aware of our self delusion. Yet this is exactly what [Alan] Leo and many of his followers have done with astrology. In order to make it intelligible they have transformed it until it bears but the scantiest resemblance to what it really is — just as ice dream and broccoli bear some slight resemblance in that they are both edible, but otherwise have little in common."

An acquaintance more familiar with Vedic astrology and spirituality told me that the North and South Nodes show attachment (north) and detachment (south). This is in no way a complete picture of the nodes but I believe it is something accurate and very good to keep in mind.

"The gift of the choleric, fiery, temperament is desire; the challenge, to direct the desire rightly. The sanguine, airy, temperament has its mental powers (not necessarily the same as what is now called intelligence); its common problem that of knowing everything and understanding nothing. The melancholic, earthy, temperament is prone to bitterness and inertia, but once moved has a practicality and solidity of approach. The phlegmatic, watery, complexion is traditionally the most beset with emotional difficulties, usually manifesting as self-indulgence and apathy.
Against this background the planets can be judged: Mars powerfully placed in Aries, for instance, will vivify a phlegmatic temperament. It is a sorry chart indeed that has no strong point anywhere with which to work."

I believe it is worth commenting that we are considered to be in the 'Age of Pisces' and Pisces is the exaltation sign of Venus. And a traditional understanding of exaltation is one of esteemed honor, but without the 'responsibility' or gravity of domicile rulership; in a certain sense, if you can forgive the politically charged terminology, an exalted planet is "privileged" and exaggerated. A domiciled planet is just good; an exalted planet has the potential to excel but can also turn awry. Have you ever noticed that many people born with the Moon exalted in Taurus struggle with weight issues? If you haven't, you may after this. I mention that to illustrate this point: We live in an era in which Venus is exalted to irresponsible extremes without the gravity of if we were instead in an astrological age of Taurus or Libra.
Take care, friends; there is such thing as too much of a good thing, or of abusing a good thing and cheapening it, dishonoring it, thereby.

"...We must determine the exact nature of the mixture of hot, cold, moist, and dry in the particular person whom we are considering, mixture being the literal meaning of temperament, and also complexion, which was originally a synonym for temperament, but is now applied only to the outward appearance rather than to the whole of the being.
In most people there are one or two of these qualities which are notably strong, and one or two that are similarly weak. This balance shows which of the temperaments the person has: choleric, which is, in modern parlance, fiery; phlegmatic (watery); sanguine (airy), or melancholic (earthy). Far from just describing a set of mental habits, this balance tells us also about the person's appearance, the illnesses from which they are likely to suffer, and much, much more. Geoffrey Chaucer, for example, who was a skilled astrologer as well as a poet, could describe a character by his temperament — 'cholerick', perhaps — knowing that just one word would give his readers a good idea of not only this character's general mode of behavior, but also his appearance. Having this basic understanding of temperament is vital if we are to put the details which we find later in any meaningful context."

"Astrology is not a means by which we may give up all responsibility: 'Saturn went over my Midheaven so my business failed.' No — your business failed because you rented fancy offices and bought a fleet of cars and didn't spend money on cultivating your client-base. Saturn had nothing to do with it: it was your responsibility and your action. Saturn just marked the moment when these pigeons come home to roost. The challenge of any real astrology is that it faces us with the possibility of accepting total responsibility; but this is possible only within the spiritual orientation of the traditional world, so we are returned yet once more to the same crossroads: no faith, no astrology."

"Leo remade astrology in the terms of Theosophy, which was itself a rendering of a Victorian scientific materialism into something which to those of little discrimination could pass for spirituality."
