A child about 5 years old was rescued by passersby as he wandered cold and bewildered on Via Saffi, in Viterbo, around 9 a.m.
Carabinieri and local police tracked down the infant's home, finding the door open and an infant alone in a crib.
The 5-year-old boy, left at home with his little brother, had managed to open the door and get out.
Law enforcement contacted social services and, after an hour, tracked down the mother, who said she had gone out for groceries, leaving her children with her husband.
The latter, however, had moved away.
The children were returned to their parents with the admonition to install a safety lock on the door
How could anyone think of leaving two such small creatures alone in the house?

The study by six Spanish researchers was published last week in BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, a Springer journal.
The researchers retrospectively examined a sample of 156 pregnant women who tested positive for COVID-19 during pregnancy between 2020 and 2022.
Of these, 45 women had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among the vaccinated group, six women (13.3 percent) had miscarriages, five of which occurred in women vaccinated in the first or second trimester of pregnancy.
In the largest group (111) of unvaccinated women, there were five miscarriages, with a miscarriage rate of 4.5 percent.

Andre Tiago Lucas, 34, an illegal immigrant from Brazil, was arrested in New Bedford. Wanted by ICE and Interpol for the #rape of a 10-year-old girl in Brazil, he had fled to the U.S. in 2019, living under a false identity.
Thanks to collaboration between Brazilian and local authorities, he was located and captured. Lucas is now being held pending extradition to Brazil, where he will face charges of #sexual_violence on a minor.

If convicted, he faces up to life imprisonmento, with a minimum of 10 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
The college fired him immediately. The investigation continues to clarify the details of the case.
