This is the legendary John Lear. It’s truly a shame that he never penned an autobiography because his life was truly one of High Adventure! The son of Learjet magnate Bill Lear, John was an accomplished aviator his entire adult life. He flew 160 different types of aircraft in over 50 countries including commercial airlines, cargo hauling, stunt flying, production test flying, aircraft ferrying, air racing and even flew aircraft for the CIA off and on from 1967 to 1983, in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. He held 18 world speed records in the Learjet and held the most FAA airman certificates issued to a single individual. He was also the Middle East correspondent for Combat Illustrated from 1975 to 1977 while he was working out of Beirut. Though this isn’t normal subject matter on HAH, it’s important to note that beginning in the 1980’s, John Lear became very outspoken on the subject of UFO’s, alien collusion with earth governments and all associated stories. He famously interviewed several times with Las Vegas newsman George Knapp and legendary Coast To Coast AM radio host Art Bell during the 80’s and 90’s. Lear was described as “probably the most influential source” of UFO conspiracies in the latter half of the 20th century and “an American icon”. So even though Mr. Lear’s life doesn’t 100% fit the mold of what/who I post about here on HAH, he certainly is deserving of an honorable mention. Regrettably, Mr. Lear passed away on March 29, 2022 at the age of 79. 🇺🇸

A Rhodesian family out for a stroll through town with a little extra protection. As the Bush War raged on and terrorist activities increased, the government began encouraging civilians to arm themselves to counter any sudden threats. If you look closely, the UZI doesn’t appear to have a mag loaded. However, just to the right, it looks like the husband has mags in his jacket pockets. It’s difficult to identify the city/town they’re in but it’s certainly the mid-to-late 1970’s. 🇿🇼

🟥 State of HAH 🟥
It’s been a little while since I’ve laid out in detail where things are at in the HAH-verse so here’s an update:
I am still working on moving shipments of the 32 Battalion PVC patches. Being a one-man show with a family and 2 jobs definitely can slow things down so I appreciate y’all’s patience. Sadly, I’m down with a back injury currently so that’s an additional hiccup…but everything will still get shipped soon.
Over on IG, the followers have chosen the next HAH patch and it is the long-requested reproduction of the “Rhodesia” tab patch worn on Rhodesian dress uniforms. After this post I will put up an A.I. rendering of what the patch will look like.
I’m unsure of when these will be available. I don’t want to take that project on until all previous orders are moved.
The decision has been made to make these as embroidered patches in an attempt to be faithful to the originals of the 60’s and 70’s.
I will also be making a small number of the 18 Commando lasercut patches available again soon. I’ve found a new supplier which can match the earlier ones exactly.
Once these launch, I will give all of you here a heads up!
