Thus, in August 2024, the transfer of many combat-ready Ukrainian units to the Kursk region led to an acceleration of the Russian offensive in the Pokrovsk-Kurakhiv direction, during which they pushed the frontline dozens of kilometers west of Donetsk.
In February 2025, the Ukrainian military and political leadership decided to organize a counteroffensive in a number of sections of the front. Mainly in the Donetsk region (Pokrovsk, Toretsk, etc.). The flow of reserves to Kursk region decreased, some units were transferred from there to Donbass.
