🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answers to the media questions during his remarks at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (Antalya, April 12, 2025)
Key points:
• More and more countries want to determine their life themselves, to have fair treatment, to have fair competition in economy, trade, in other areas, just in line with the principles of globalization, which were promoted by our Western friends, especially by the United States, for so many decades.
• What we observe is fragmentation of the world economy. This is the time of uncertainty, I would say. Nobody knows how the situation with world trade and investment is going to end.
• The United States recognize that other countries also have their national interests, and those interests would never coincide fully, maybe even half of these interests would not be similar. But when the interests, especially the interests of big countries, coincide, it is essential for them to find ways to materialize them into mutually beneficial economic, logistical, and other projects, while when these interests contradict each other, it is the responsibility and duty of countries, especially if we speak about big powers, not to allow these differences to degenerate into confrontation, especially the hot confrontation.
• I will repeat again what I said then, and I repeated this publicly also, when we speak about eliminating root causes of any conflict, including Ukrainian conflict. This is the only way to resolve the problem and to establish long-lasting peace - remove root causes.
• If Ukrainian nazi regime, I cannot describe it otherwise, enjoys the cover from the European Union, which as I just mentioned, never dropped a word about the situation with human rights in Ukraine, then this is not our problem. We listen to those people who voted at the referendum to join Russia to restore all their rights which belong to them by international law and by history, by justice.
• The European Union is not happy. And instead of doing something about this situation for the sake of their citizens Brussels people threatened to stop importing any grain from Russia. They're very specific leaders. They say that Kaja Kallas, Annalena Baerbock, they were saying yes, when criticized by the people who saying, “We live worse than before”. Yes, we understand, but our electorate should suffer for the sake of Ukraine, while at the same time thousands and thousands of Ukrainians living there in European luxury, buying very expensive vehicles. But this is what the European elite calls European values, which they defend in the person of Zelensky regime.
• I gave to our colleagues from Türkiye, to Minister Hakan Fidan, what we give to Americans, to UN, to OSCE, the list of facts, listing the attacks by Ukraine during the last three weeks against Russian energy infrastructure.
• We understand that Zelensky hates all Russians, so he gives orders. Either he gives orders, and they are not taken, or he is lying, that he is giving these orders. It's a tragedy. It's a tragedy.

🚀 Yuri Gagarin's 108-minute voyage around the Earth inspired generations to dream beyond the stars. With his boyish grin and boundless courage, he quickly became a global icon and his legacy has been immortalised in statues and monuments across the world.
Yet one of the most unexpected tributes to the first cosmonaut lies far from space museums or bustling capitals — on the windswept Orkney Islands, off the north coast of Scotland.
Here, just steps from the Neolithic village of Skara Brae – a UNESCO World Heritage Site inhabited over 5,000 years ago – stands a carved stone that simply reads: "First Man in Space, AD 1961". Nestled among markers of human milestones, it honours Gagarin's place in our shared journey — from ancient stargazers to modern explorers.
This is a quiet reminder that Gagarin's reach extends far beyond Earth's orbit — and even beyond the expected.
💐 Recently Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin and Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Denis Moskalenko laid flowers at the site, paying tribute to the first man in space.

💬 Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova:
Media reports: World Press Photo withdrew the invitation to TASS photo correspondent Mikhail Tereshchenko to the awards ceremony citing increased tension on the European continent.
It is such a disgrace that they had better never said anything at all.
It's only natural that a question arises whether only photos with neutral themes such as nature, flowers and butterflies will be allowed for the contest from now on?
As a reminder: Historically, the TASS news agency, one with a great historical pedigree, not only took part in the contest but also won main prizes. From 1956 to 1992, TASS entries took 25+ top places at this contest and contributed to building up its reputation.
This situation is akin World Press Photo shooting itself in the foot.

⭐️ On April 12, 1961, Yuri #Gagarin is forever embedded in history as the first human to journey into space. His flight marked a breakthrough not only in science, but also in international relations.
In the two years following his mission, Yuri Alekseyevich embarked on an extensive world tour, during which he visited more than 3️⃣0️⃣ countries across several continents.
In Europe, Gagarin visited, among others, the United Kingdom, France, Finland, Austria, Poland. In Asia, he traveled to India, Japan, and other countries. Across Africa — in nations such as Egypt, Ghana, and Libya — his name resonated as a symbol of unity among peoples. He also visited Brazil, Canada, Cuba, and Mexico.
Crowds gathered in city streets to welcome the first human to orbit the Earth. He was received as a hero of humanity — one who proved that humanity was capable of extraordinary achievements. Yet Gagarin remained true to himself: sincere, kind-hearted, and modest. He spoke with equal respect to heads of state, children, and ordinary workers alike.
🇮🇳 In India, Gagarin met with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, visited Bollywood, attended a demonstration by yogis, and traveled over 5,000 kilometers across the country.
🇨🇺 In Cuba, he was received personally by Fidel Castro. Castro admired Gagarin’s Soviet Air Force cap with its sky-blue band and winged emblem—and the two exchanged headgear as a gesture of friendship.
🇬🇧 In the United Kingdom, Gagarin charmed the public with his openness. At breakfast, he opted for simple fare, joked with journalists, and conversed freely with local residents.
🇪🇬 In Egypt, he viewed the Giza pyramids, toured the ancient city of Luxor, and visited Aswan, where — thanks to Soviet assistance — the country had constructed the largest dam in Africa. Upon his departure, he was presented with symbolic keys to the cities of Cairo and Alexandria.
🇯🇵 In Tokyo's Haneda Airport, 10,000 people gathered to welcome him. When Gagarin told them that Japan was the first country he saw from space, the crowd erupted with joy, chanting, “Banzai, Gagarin!”
Gagarin’s world tour became a shining example of people’s diplomacy, and he himself — a true ambassador of friendship and goodwill.
☝️ These journeys highlighted the international recognition of USSR's scientific achievement and symbolized the openness and humanism of the Soviet people.

Russian Embassy, Sweden

12.04.202513:59
🎙️Interview of Russia’s Ambassador to Sweden Sergey Belyaev with SwebbTV (April 12, 2025)
Key points:
#RussiaSweden
🔹 We have had communication with Sweden for more than a thousand years. And the Russian Embassy in Stockholm was one of the first Russian missions abroad. And of course we had different periods of time. But we managed to have relations and to keep open channels of communication.
🔹 Finland and Sweden joined NATO. It's a reality. And the issue is that now the decision about peace of war do not belong to Helsinki and Stockholm. And that's why the security of these countries are not only in their hands. And of course we will analyze this. Of course there will be steps, also military steps, preparing to different, as you imagine, scenarios. But I do not see the situation when we will demand that Sweden should went out of NATO. It's speculation. Russia has no intention to invade, for example, Gotland. But researchers and journalists in Sweden develop different scenarios how it can happen. And then they begin to believe themselves that Russia is threatening Sweden.
🔹 You should not feel nervous. The case is that during the whole history of mankind, it's better to improve your security by political and diplomatic means than to prepare to war.
#BalticSea
🔹In the Baltic Sea, for years, we developed international cooperation to achieve the safety of shipments.
🔹 My hope is that sometime we will be able to restore cooperation. It is very difficult to do now after a very deep lack of confidence between Europe and the Russian Federation. I suppose that it will be very difficult if possible at all to restore it. But at least we should remember that our disputes, our different opinions should not lead to confrontation.
#MultipolarWorld
🔹 Our politics is developing very much towards Asia, Africa, and Latin America. BRICS is developing very rapidly. We have now 11 countries. And many countries are willing to join. And now this so-called G7 represents only 30% of global GDP. And BRICS represents 38%.
🔹We really have very close relations of cooperation with China, it's really strategic, Our trade with China is now more than $230 billion in our match. And for example, the Chinese are very interested in developing cooperation in the Arctic areas, Russia is one of the best countries in this field.
#NATO
🔹There were a lot of countries that tried to invade Russia, and we have a great experience, unfortunately, of such confrontation. When there was unification of Germany, and the Soviet Union gave its permission to support this unification, because we were promised that NATO will not enlarge. But then we know what happened. NATO was coming closer and closer to the Russian borders.
🔹 And of course, when we see that the military alliance is enlarging and coming actually to our borders, we have to think why it happens. And we speak about this with partners from the West, beginning with year 2007, when it was this famous speech of President Putin, that security should be comprehensive, that no-one should build his security on the security of the others.
🔹 It's rather funny to see how Baltic states try to prove that they will be the next ones. Russia has no intention to invade in Baltic states. No intention to invade in Finland or Sweden.Baltic states joined NATO many years before. Sweden has joined now. And of course we have to analyze what does it mean from the point of view of our security and how we should react. But I exclude the possibility that Russia will invade to some neighbour country. We are not interested in wars as a country or as people.

🛰 On April 12, 1961, the world witnessed an event of cosmic significance (or rather the Cosmos witnessed an all-planetary event): Soviet cosmonaut Yury Gagarin performed the first ever manned mission aboard the Vostok-1 spacecraft. His trailblazing flight lasted 108 minutes and ushered in the Space Age, with the human race embarking on space exploration.
Vostok-1 was a spherical re-entry capsule measuring 4.3 metres in length, 2.43 metres in diameter, and with a launch mass of 4,725 kilogrammes. It was equipped with life-support systems, automated controls and communications equipment. Designed for a single crew member, the spacecraft could support a mission of up to ten days.
The launch vehicle was developed on the basis of the two-stage R-7 intercontinental ballistic missile, with the addition of a third stage. It measured 38.2 metres in length, had a maximum diameter of 10.3 metres and a launch mass of approximately 287 tonnes. The rocket was capable of delivering payloads of up to 4.5 tonnes into orbit.
👨🚀 The flight was operated entirely in automatic mode, but Gagarin was capable to control it manually, if necessary. For safety, he wore a spacesuit throughout the mission. The suit carried a four-hour oxygen supply to keep the cosmonaut alive in the event of depressurisation. It would also protected Gagarin, if his seat ejected at an altitude of 10 kilometres.
The launch took place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 9:07 am Moscow time. Vostok-1 made a single orbit of the Earth and landed near the village of Smelovka in the Saratov Region at 10:53 am. At an altitude of around 7 kilometres, Gagarin ejected from the capsule and parachuted to the ground.
Vostok-1 was the first spacecraft in the Vostok series, and even after the main programme ended, modified versions of the spacecraft continued to be used and later became the foundation for a number of Soviet and Russian satellites.

In just a few minutes, a mighty spacecraft will carry me into the vast expanses of the universe. What can I say to you in these final moments before the launch?
My entire life now seems to me like one beautiful moment. Everything I have lived through and accomplished was done for the sake of this moment.
Am I happy to be embarking on this spaceflight? Of course, I am! After all, throughout history, it has been the highest happiness for people to participate in new discoveries.
Now, only a few minutes remain until the launch. I want to say goodbye to you, my dear friends, as people always say to each other when setting off on a long journey. How I wish I could embrace you all — both those I know and those I don’t, those far away and those close by!
Until we meet again!”

🇷🇺🇸🇩 Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan Dr. Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif
📍 Antalya, April 12
***
💬 FM Sergey Lavrov: I am pleased to meet you again.
It is a good opportunity for us to compare notes and exchange opinions on our bilateral relations and, most particularly, our efforts to stop the bloodshed in Sudan.
Russia is always ready to help. Your opinion and assessment of the current situation is instrumental for us.
***
On April 12, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Sudan Ali Youssef Al-Sharif on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

🎙 Statement by Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vassily Nebenzia at a UNSC Briefing on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (New York, January 28, 2025)💬 Vassily Nebenzia: The UN Security Council has on numerous occasions discussed the situation surrounding the steps by Israel to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Council members have consistently and unequivocally condemned West Jerusalem's efforts to wreck the Agency, which, as we all realize, is absolutely irreplaceable for Gazans and the West Bank.
This follows also from the latest UN reports, which indicate that it is precisely UNRWA that provides a significant share of the aid distributed to the population there, including the aid that began to massively flow into the enclave following the deal reached between Israel and Hamas. What is of great help here is the Agency's experience, its far-reaching system for providing humanitarian assistance as well as the Agency’s infrastructure established over decades. <...>
⚠️ We never saw any substantiated evidence to prove Israeli’s allegations regarding the Agency’s non-compliance with the principle of neutrality and the involvement of 19 UNRWA staff in October 7th ruthless attack by Hamas in 2023. Moreover, no accusation could serve as grounds for banning UNRWA’s work, as this Agency was established not by Israel but by a decision of the entire international community back in 1949.
We have repeatedly emphasized that the Israeli legislative acts not only violate the norms of international law, including the UN Charter, the 4th Geneva Convention and relevant GA decisions, but also contradict the conditions for Israel's joining the UN back in 1949, which include the compliance with and the implementation of two flagship UNGA resolutions – UNGAR 181 with the Palestine Partition Plan and UNGAR 194 on Palestinian refugees.
Moreover, Israel’s ban on the Agency's activities and the revocation of its privileges and immunities are at odds with the purposes and principles of the UN and constitute a flagrant violation by West Jerusalem of its international legal obligations, including those stemming from the Convention on Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.
❗️ No State has the right to unilaterally deprive UN agencies and its personnel of their privileges and immunities. Such an approach renders meaningless the very notion of privileges and immunities, which is supposed to ensure the unhindered performance of duties by international officials. <...>
☝️ We reaffirm our readiness to contribute to developing any UN initiatives, including within the Security Council, geared at maintaining UNRWA's presence in the OPT and ensuring the safety of its personnel.
We support the calls on Israel issued by the UN Secretary General and the UNRWA Commissioner General, and demand that Israel uphold its international legal obligations and repeal the aforementioned legislative acts.
It is important to bear in mind that the implementation of the laws banning UNRWA’s work would deal a serious blow to the ceasefire, which we all have a stake in, and which is already very fragile.
